Ned was the connecting fiber for all of the characters from house Stark introduced in S1 Ep1. He is shown to be a morally righteous man in a environment of immoral people. It was kind of obvious he wasnt going to be long for the world, and that his death would spark the story lines for those connected to him.

except for the whole cheating on his wife and "child out of wedlock" thing, sure.

There are very few shows that have the guts to behead their main, and most likable, character. We're conditioned to expect a last minute reprieve.

If the show was called House of Stark I would agree but since it's not just about the Starks for narrative reasons his death was necessary to start all the story arcs they had set up.

A momentary weakness. Women were probably tripping over each other for some of that Stark seed. You know what they say about guys with big swords.

Worst bank holiday Monday ever.

Next week better be fucking awesome. Tywin riding a dragon over Winterfell whilst the White Walkers perform 'Thriller' down below with Hodor in MJ's place.

^^^ SPOILER: In the books, Tywin is the one performing "Thriller", not Hodor.

I was shocked by Ned's death of course.

I'm just saying the pieces were in place (really following Episode 7 of Season 1) where we could see that something dramatic might happen.

I think that's less so this season, but like you said, I would not be at all shocked if I'm shocked by things that happen in the next episode.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Of course.

As I said, I did not see that coming. All of the stories we have seen before conditioned nearly everyone to expect Ned (the main character at the time) to be saved.

I'm just saying that the previous episodes had set us up to seem like something dramatic might happen.

Can someone explain to me the 'Theon's famous cock' thing from 2 or so episodes ago. The way that character said it, it made it seem like it was common knowledge. Feels like I forgot some scenes from a while back or something.

Danny would look sooo much better without those huge dark eyebrows.

I've got to say, friendzoned fedora Jorah is the funniest thing I've read on gaf in weeks.

It looks like he was one of Ros' regular clients. He also boasted about Pyke men being awesome lovers.

They did shot the pilot with her I think. Maybe she simply didn't work as Dany.

Yeah they shot the pilot with her and Jennifer Ehle as Cat. As far as I know they replaced her with Clarke simply because they thought she would be a better Dany.

When they filmed the pilot, Sean Bean had short hair, so he wore a wig and because of Fairley replacing Ehle, they had to refilm his scenes with Cat in the first episode and there is a significant difference from the wig and Bean's real hair.

And yes, there is no episode this week
