Your Realistic Expectations for Final Fantasy Versus XIII (FFXV) E3 Showing

If its turned based... That makes no sense to me. It was made as an ARPG right?

Kagari :(

I don't think they would make it turned based... especially after Kitase's comments about wanting to move the series to a more action oriented system going forward.

BDFF originally started out as an ARPG.

It became something else didn't it.

I believe he said this basically a year ago.

I honestly expect nothing. No trailer, no screen shots, not even a hint of a hint that SE is still working on it.

See I don't understand this line of thought. They've had something to show for some time, the game has been shown off several times with gameplay, the creator has said we will see the game when the time is right, and we have been told to wait for E3 for the reveal of the next Final Fantasy.

I have no doubt that the game has changed quite a bit since it was last shown off in 2011, but I think it's more dangerous to bet against the game turning up in 2 weeks, than it is to bet on seeing it... finally.

As the game is already pretty beautiful, i would see a PS3/4 release summer 2014, with the PS4 version being a beefed up original version.

I don't think this kind of giant scale game can see every assets redone high poly style (and the animatino that goes with it) just like that.

But that would be really good for Sony.
As for the title, XV would be good of course, as there was just one main numbered version this generation. It would make sense.

I would love to know what the Square production system is actually about. As I said in the other thread, it seems like there's no solid production method there and hasn't been for years. Their reports to investors read like bad term reports.

I'm expecting it to be rebranded as FFXV and look much more like a mainline FF than Versus does now. I'm guessing we'll get a CG trailer and vague "coming 2014" release date.

I think it'll be XV as well. The Roen leak just seemed believable to me. I think it'll be PS4 also, and I really hope it is.

I'm really curious to see what they have decided to do with the lore, and if they removed Etro and the l'cie references. They might have even changed other major things, like cast and location to some extent. Can't wait to finally see it.

My only expectation is that it still exists and is in some playable form. I think a PS3 release is still plausible, but a PS4 release is just as likely since I can see them concluding the Lightning-verse on the Triple and starting fresh on dat new Quadrupl hotness. I wouldn't be surprised if it was announced as a launch window title.

So, more like FFXIII? (auto battle, auto battle, auto battle, autobahn...)

That they show the game and convince people that it's real and it's coming actually within 1.5 years. And talk about the actual game not we made this cutscene 6 million different times because we were dumb or things like that...

If it's another CG trailer and they don't actually show anything, we're back to where we're right now.

I'm getting flashbacks to 2011 when everyone was expecting the game to be out in that year or 2012 the latest after what they showed, and here we are in 2013, lol.

Like most people have stated I honestly think they will re-reveal it with the tried and true CGI/gameplay mix. Not sure if they will call it XIV or not, and I don't really care all that much. But deserved or not, I imagine they might try to be rid of the XIII stigma.

My pipe dream is they come on stage and after presenting said trailer say it is near completion and will ship either this year(as a PS4 launch title) or early next.

I expect and hope that it will be announced for the PS4. Also a KH3 announcement. If Sony has those two big announcement at their conference then they would win E3.

There's really no excuse not to show up with a gameplay demo. Especially if it's on PS4. They already looked like as holes at the PS4 unveiling showing that tired tech demo while everyone else was playing a game or at least revealing something brand new that will ultimately be a game.

I really hope no one is expecting an Agni's Philosophy level of jump. This game was not built from the ground up on next gen hardware. So get that shit out of your head (the comparisons are going to be inevitable though. "OMG SQUARE LIED" smfh). I fully expect the game to look damn good but not mind blowing though.

No more "VS" either. I completely believe the rumors that it will be a rebranding. I mean really, why the fuck not?

They are absolutely not going to re-brand it as XV. A cross-gen title (from an assets and production value point of view) as a mainline FF is not going to cut it. It will disappoint on so many levels.

Agni's Philosophy tech demo is now out there - give me that level of production values or fuck off. I don't want another VII HD remake broken dream.

Exactly it will look great on PS4(It might actually not release on PS3), Versus on steroids, it does not have to be Agni Philosophy quality to be great looking.

Most people would be glad to have it release, wanting an Agni Philosophy quality or "fuck off" is simply absurd.

We've waited over 7 years, but let's just not buy it because it looks early next gen rather than late next gen. OK....

Realistic expectations?

That versus (= XV) has undergone some design changes to better fit the mold of a main-numbered Final Fantasy game.

Previously, versus had the "luxury" of not being the main XIII game. It allowed some wild ideas that, according to Nomura, could never work for a main FF game. If versus is now a main FF game, some of those ideas might have been scrapped, redesigned or adapted to the new situation.

I remain skeptical it will even be at E3. Maybe a name change or some new screens. Definitely won't get a release date.

Yeah. Realistically it should be close to completion and fully playable at E3, but knowing Square-Enix I wouldn't be surprised if they just show a trailer and that's it. :/

FFXIII taught us that visuals are not what makes a game, so I agree with you that no one should expect AP level graphics, but that's not such a bad thing.
The game will look better than XIII, and that's more than good enough for me.

Also secretly expecting a second FF reveal, and that one will look like AP.

Well, I seriously doubt Versus has been canned, so we will see it in some form at E3. I am of the opinion that it is close to being done and that we will see a release date, although I can see why some people might be skeptical of that.

As for it being renamed FFXV? I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were, at this point.

Trailer reveals it is now FF15. Cross gen (PS3 & PS4). Please be excited for late 201x.

I really think by showing it again after all this time that they have to commit to a release, at the very least a release YEAR. If it's cross gen it'll almost certainly be next year.

Final Fantasy XIV, exclusive to the PS4, available at launch and part of a PS4 bundle.

If they managed a PS3 / PS4 launch for this November, for me, it would literally be the greatest gaming announcement in as long as I can remember.

I remember when I worked at a big box retailer back in 05, I had a co-worker who specifically wanted a ps3 because of FF Versus.

How does square-enix think that developing a game for this long is a good idea?

Squeenix chokes whenever one of their games get high expectations so I expect them to keep doing nothing until all hope is abandoned for the game. Then it will come out when it has nothing to compete that is even remotely similar and people will have sparkles in their eyes and repent ever doubting squeenix. That's the plan anyway.

Do you mean 2006? Final Fantasy Versus XIII wasn't announced until May 8th, 2006.

I understand where you are coming from so let me elaborate:

1: It will be shown at TGS or more likely at a special event so that it is the center of attention.

2: SE isn't the SE of old. They have shown gross incompetence in their business practices this past generation I would not believe anything that Nomura or Kitase or Hashimoto say about this game. They may be dead serious at the time of saying it but they have "cried wolf" to many times for me to believe anything until I can hold it in my hands.

In other words, SE has screwed the pooch so many times in so many ways this past decade I automatically assume gross incompetence on their part.

My realistic expectation is that it has been quietly put to pasture and Nomura has been allowed to move on to Kingdom Hearts III for Wii U, 360 and PS3.

- FFXV.

- Exclusive To PS4.

- Apology For the Delay.

- Nomura won't be on stage.

- Biggest FF yet.

- KH3 for ps4 is in development.

- Gameplay trailer with CGI start/end.

- Coming at Launch.

- No demo for the people.

If anything at ALL:

A trailer. CGI/Gameplay mix. 4-8 minutes in length. Maybe a release WINDOW.

TGS - longer presentation.

They told me to please be excited, I am excited.

PS4 exclusive (timed if not)
More open world

Them not showing it.

Yep. And all the PS4 wanters just note that it was supposed to come to PS3 and didn't within the past seven (more like 8) years of development. Moving to PS4 would mean having to redo art-assets (if they wanted it to be pretty) and other things. If they couldn't launch it on PS3 what makes you think they'll launch it on PS4?

It can either be exclusive, or coming at launch, you can't have both.

I'm not so stupid as to automatically think Square "lie" if a game does not live up to a tech demo.

What I am saying though is that it's frustrating for them to constantly be massive cock teases by releasing unrealistic tech demos like this and the VII HD demo if the full game is not going to live up to that. Pairing the tech demos up with "please be excited" announcements certainly does not help matters either.

It's akin to saying "this is all the cool stuff our engine can do, but we aren't gonna do it because it costs too much/takes too much time" - if this is the route that next-gen is going to go down, then we really are reaching a point of diminishing returns regardless of hardware advancement.

I'm expecting it to be caught it dev hell for most of the upcoming generation and eventually show up as a ps4 game to a lukewarm reception. Production cycles that get this out of control don't seem likely to rebound well in my opinion.

Alternatively they cut their losses and rush out a ps4 version to ride the launch hype.

Damn when did I become so cynical about games. I hope I'm wrong.

Realistically? If it still exists, I expect the logo and a short CG teaser trailer. Square-Enix will show a longer version of that same teaser at TGS.

What I hope for? A five minute trailer (realtime, little to no CG) covering the gameplay, world, and story.

#1 is way more likely than #2. Square-Enix does nothing but fumble and screw up these days.

Realistic expectation: It won't be shown or mentioned in any press conference at E3. A famitsu article will come soon after with an interview with Nomura saying "we are busy preparing something to show. hopefully soon we will be able to discuss it. please wait just a little bit longer!"
