They remind me a lot of the Laser! diamonds from Colours, actually.

Good catch. Super Sonic Galaxy Xtreme always seemed like the direction the Colors team always wanted to head in anyway.
Not being bound to the Unleashed gameplay format is probably a breath of fresh air, though Imma miss that style Sonic.

Kind of obvious that they match emerald colours, but maybe that is just me.
The white one is missing, most likely the final boss or main dude.
I thought they might be laser related.
The sheep appear in another shot, too, of Sonic running a cylindrical piece of land.

Yeah hopefully Nintendo stops them making it too automatic on the Wii U. I trust the Sonic team after their recent games though.

What's weird is that you can see the detailed fluffy grass way better in those tiny compressed gifs than in the actual 720p video lol

I dunno, there was a TON of analysis on the last Pokemon XY reveal and his analysis was very poorly researched and had a lot of incorrect stuff.
How is this a Galaxy ripoff? This game resembles Sonic Xtreme if anything.

Most people probably don't even know what that is though. First thing I thought upon watching the trailer was Sonic Xtreme as well though, not Mario Galaxy.

So the sonic Figure 8 is an Infinity sign, which is also known as a Mobius, which in some continuities is the name of the world that Sonic lives on.
My mind is blown to pieces.

Why doesn't this game look like this with even more finesse from the WiiU additional power? ugh, so underwhelming. I hope this also isn't the graphical standard we can expect from 3D Mario :/ Even though they will surely have a superior artstyle to what is shown here, but I really just finally want some 1st party games that feel like that they don't belong on the goddamn original Wii. And I'm already sick of waiting. X is probably like 2 years away too
