Yeah, it's definitely odd - there are replacement shells all over for DSi, DSi XL, even the 3DS - but absolutely nothing for 3DS XL. A shame, really :/

I think there was a Super Mario 3D Land one too (At least in Australia there was), I got the Mario Kart bundle though since it was the easier of the two to track down.

Not as fancy (doesn't have a shadow under the leaf like some can do) but if you want that for now.

So those areas are to stay black? I can imagine the slight added thickness of the paint causing the slides to jam...

Okay, so it's pretty cool. When it is wet, it's glossy. When dry, matte, like the actual system. Basically, if I can see my reflection in it, it isn't dry.
To the touch, it feels slightly rubbery, and it has more friction. That is to say, it's harder to run my finger across it, but it is still very smooth and nice. It isn't too warm, and might actually be a bit cooler. I'll have to test it while playing a game.
No where near done, only the top face is pretty much done.

I don't own a 3DS but this thread makes me wish I did just for Animal Crossing, especially with all the stuff happening in the industry right now. My town will be open for business as soon as Nintendo releases an all-black 3DSXL. Enjoy the game people!
