Damn, I see this thread GREW since I left work yesterday. I didn't come back since I wasnt feeling well. Called out sick today. Time to participate in this thread. :p

Oh congrats to Sats since I see he got Member status pages ago (yesterday) lol.

I had 2 launch 3DS (one for me and one for the missus) and neither one of us had this issue at all. I now have an XL and my wife still has her OG original and no scratches on either.

The most I ever got were smudges on the OGs from the bottom screen ridge on the top... I'm not even sure how those could translate into scratches personally since the plastic is well rounded without any sharp edges and it should never hit the screen in such a way that would cause scratches (when you close the case it rests on those points, but there is no sideways/slicing motion that would normally be required to make a scratch).

Obviously though it must happen because lots of people report it, I'm just personally a little baffled by how it happens and never had it happen myself. How it could happen on the XL is even more baffling to me since it doesn't have those raised screen edges.

Yeah, it does happen. My first 3DS developed a line of little pits that would light up with the screen. Very distracting.

I've raised the rubber pads slightly on my current 3DS (now that it's out of warranty), which helps tremendously. The pattern was repeating itself…

My OG never had any scratches. The most it got was smudges when the top screen touched the bottom screen. The XL that I have, has no scratches either.

Wow, I only just noticed my account got approved for posting. I'm really looking forward to New Leaf, it's been almost a decade since I last played an AC game I think :D

I'm just looking to register a few people to play this game with, should I just go through the thread and randomly add friend codes I see, or is there a better way of going about this?

Okay, I got a concern to share with you guys. I'm hoping you guys could help me sort this idea out better.

First of all, we all know that there's a risk of troll players and the like. Even if the owner of the system isn't the one trolling you, it could be someone's little cousin or kid. :\ ETC ETC.

With that said, I've learned that when you open the gates at the Train Station to go to other people's towns, you only see their AC character name and Town name. This can rise some flags... obviously.

One, anyone can create names and towns that could copy off of another person to impersonate him/her. If malicious enough that is.

Two, even if innocently enough, people could create plenty of Hyrules to their own liking, but there's also still too many Justins (sorry FearMyWrench) or Johns or whatever that could have that attached so there's confusion involved. On top of that, there's a privacy issue too. We wouldn't necessarily want people to include their real names to the internet really.

With all that said, I came up with an idea of having a rigid no duplicates town name list on the sheet while the character names can be more flexible. I'm sure Gaffers could put their names on there, but like I said, privacy issues to changing one's gender or unable to shorten their GAF name properly could change anyone's mind on their character's name.

So in otherwords, my question is, is it wise to have one column (town names) to be rigid while the other (character names) to be flexible to prevent confusion/malicious intrusion?

Personally I go with having unique town names for our community. Passwords make things too complicated, and not everyone will adhere to the rule I reckon.

You're added to the list of FCs. :) I'll include you a link to the last update. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=59678917&postcount=9677

I know... I like the unique town names too... but ah, that'd be taking away their freedom I guess. But so is having their own name lol. I've just decided to let them both be flexible be to be honest, I realize that you still won't know who they are until they enter wearing you know they're wearing. We'll just include a tip to use the wifi switch immediately when someone comes in is someone you don't recognize.

Luckily for me mine are faint so I have to really look to notice them so when I'm playing they're not a distraction.

And here I thought the thread died the moment I posted earlier. Lol.

I second this. It's easier to keep track of the town names than player names.

I'll add you Soda. Add me if you want: 3110-4362-0356.

Welcome to both GAF & CrossingGAF btw!

My white XL thankfully has no screen scratches after 6 months of use, I've never carried it in my jeans pocket or anything like that though. I don't think anyone around me owns a 3DS, my fiancée is the only person I've streepassed with (ooh err!) and we only have a handful off puzzle pieces :(

Town safety stuff

Unique town names sounds like the best way, much easier to keep track of.

Anyone know how long the transfer process is from a 3DS to a 3DSXL? Hoping it's only a few minutes to transfer across and not an hour or so...

No scratches on my black OG 3DS, although it does do the stupid light marks on the top screen from the circle pad and edges of the lower screen. Although those wipe off easily with the microfiber cloth I keep with my 3DS (and use to wipe it before I play anyways, out of habit/to get rid of dust which distracts me when I use 3D).

Thanks! :3

Nooo I was kidding, the real name is Serenity!

But I'll sneak ~♥bums♥~ in there somewhere.

Also no scratches on my XL. Haven't heard problems from anyone until someone in this thread said it still happens. And my OG just had marks which rubbed off. They were there every time, mind.

No worries, its not set in stone until you submit that read only form. With THAT said... once it goes live (when the OT goes up) you better get there fast if you don't want anyone to copy your name lol. I CAN edit it later for you if you change your mind but yeah.

I haven't been playing 3DS as much as I used to because I'm slammed with life stuff, but this summer, I will play this game to infinity and beyond.

Is it the 9th yet? :(

Make a custom shirt design with a number on the back. Send number to Philia. When you arrive you turn around to reveal the hidden number and others can confirm with Philia if you are who you say you are.

LMAO. You're hilarious. :3

Also, we got 5 more slots open before we hit 200 people on the sheet! :3
