Sony E3 press conference; June 10th 6PM PT/9PM ET

Well, I guess what I was getting at is the fact that public opinion is low, still, and if Sony pushes it to the side, public opinion will get worse.

Very true. I think Sony needs to give Vita its own event. Their E3 presser has to be designed to go toe to toe against Microsoft's blitzkrieg, and any wasted time equals wasted dollars.

Sony should just straight-up rip off Nintendo (in a good way) and give the Vita a series of Vita Direct shows that focus on upcoming games. Reach out to the fans. The press is going to be too busy freaking out over next-gen hardware to really give the Vita the respect it needs to flourish.

Anyone down for doing a predictions list? After the conference you can look back and see how many predictions you got right. This list should exclude stuff they already revealed like Knack and Infamous even though they might show up at the conference, as well as stuff guaranteed to be there like what the system looks like and Destiny.

Mine:

1) At least one SKU at $499.
2) Final Fantasy Versus (likely under a different name), for PS4
3) The Last Guardian re-revealed for PS4
4) No show from Guerrilla Games' or Quantic Dream's new/2nd games
5) Sony Santa Monica new game appears
6) A release date
7) Same day digital announced for all games
8) Basic playing online is free, PS+ tier system
9) Planetside 2 for PS4
10) no Media Molecule game yet
11) Indie games focus or sizzle real

I can't disagree with any of those. I can also imagine another indie dev getting up on stage to reiterate the indie scene and showing off something new and cool.

If MM do have a game I predict it will be LBP 3D, aka Little Big Galaxy. Or something. Would rock.

I predict with absolutely no certainty that they will demo the camera with something. Probably something lame instead of something cool like head-tracking in Drive Club (my best bet), but something. If they're packing it we need to be told why.

Drive Club, Second Son demoed.

Sony has been teasing several significant "system seller" Vita reveals for a few weeks now. Clearly something is brewing. Whether or not they show up at E3 is anybody's guess, but hopefully Sony doesn't ignore the system entirely this year.

Final Fantasy X HD. Please be excited.

this "public" doesn't watch E3, so Sony's best bet is to do more advertising rather than make it too prominent at their press conference. For us core gamers I think announcements and show floor demos are good enough :)

Yeah, good points all around, especially the "public" comment. Weird space to be in: Show it an be accused of ignoring next-gen; don't show it and get accused of sending it to die.

I am seriously considering buying one, but I think the best move is to wait for E3. Not even for a price drop anymore, but if the thing has a future.

1) I don't see Sony pricing the system that high,
2) This rumor has been making the rounds, but I am not that convinced personally.
3) This one would be awesome and makes sense, but I have to wonder if it will be shown off just yet if they had to remake it for PS4.
4) On GG I agree since they will focus on KZ:SF for PS4, but QD may give us a teaser of their PS4 efforts.
5) This seems pretty damn likely.
6) I should bloody hope so!
7) Don't they already have this for like nearly all games?
8) PS+ Tier System? What do you mean by this?
9) This is a pretty sure bet!
10) I disagree here. I think they will show something. Probably just a teaser, but something.
11) I think they will be a substantial showing, but the major focus will primarily be on big name games!

I'm really beginning to think Sony will start charging for online multiplayer (tied to PS+ or Gaikai).

Way too much money on the table.

Thought so. Great to see it highlighted. /dreams of G-Police...

A basic PS+ and a premium PS+. Basic PS+ is exactly like the current one, while the premium PS+ includes more goodies (perhaps Gaikai enabled BC).

That one slipped past me. I imagine something like this might exist, but I think Plus will stay the same charge-wise until later on. Apart from Gaikai-enabled BC, store discounts and maybe a few other bits and bats I don't see what else they can offer at the start of the systems life-cycle. Later, sure.

That sounds weird.

Tiered premium services?

I think having one premium service is enough.

How much would the PS++ service cost? 100 bucks a year?

I could see them charging for Gaikai services, but multiplayer? No way. "It's free!" is one of the ONLY bullet points they have to compete against XBL. It'd be colossally stupid to change that now, especially since most likely PSN won't be THAT much better next gen. Certainly not enough to justify charging users for it.

Live isn't even worth the subscription fee, so there's no way Sony will be able to one-up that. Besides, I think PS+ works better as an addition (hence the "plus" in the name) rather than a requirement.

They may introduce it a few years down the line but I'm willing to bet Sony will stay with free online play and services such as Netflix to begin with in the hope of 1uping MS. I think PS+ will maybe offer more than before though (demos for every game for example, share video content, early access beta's, BC through Gaikai at some point).

So for the full online experience you'll have to pay, but to just play online and use the basic services it will be free.

I think a more likely solution is that they will offer Premium MP services with PS+. Like more dedicated servers. Priority access to servers (like BF Premium). Better cross-game communication. They will make free MP a "bare bones" experience.

I think they'll keep non-gaming apps accessible for all but the only way they can get a large chunk of that $1b pie that Microsoft are currently enjoying all to themselves is by putting online play behind the paywall.

I think it'll do well as MS haven't announced anything that can compete with Gaikai and PS+. I know I'd definitely pay for it (I already pay for PS+).

I know I'm definitely getting PS+ for PS4. I held off when it was introduced to PS3 but every time I go to PSN I can see all the awesome stuff it provides.

I also don't think they'll force paying for online. It will be left as a choice, but PS+ is definitely more than worth it.

I think they'll continue to keep entertainment apps (like Netflix) free, and the new social apps for games and online for games all free. But they will continue to charge for PS+, and probably up the sub price after introducing Gaikai services - so the price increase would be quite warranted. OR they'll have PS+ as it is now and charge separately for Gaikai streaming (maybe half the price of PS+ sub) for people who want it - thus bringing in the extra money.

Sony's strength is keeping stuff optional but making it tempting enough to pay for it anyway, that's the best approach for gamers.

I'm all for optional features/services.

But people are dumb enough to pay for XBL Gold. Sony must want the same revenue. PS+ does well but I don't think it's anywhere near the amount of Gold subscribers.

They'd make profits every year just from that revenue alone, no?

Someone is going to stream it via YouTube won't they? Presumably that works on the PS3 app, or the standard browser.
Last time I tried the YouTube app it didn't support live streams. If you have a 360+Gold it should be available via the IGN app, GT app, and probably the Twitch app as well.

People are dumb enough, but MS did that off the back of a revolution in console online play. Sony may well catch up to that with PS4, but they're fighting against a reputation for weaker online features. I'm not sure how they could charge for online play with that perception, plus how can you push lots of free to play games if you have to pay to play them? I seriously doubt Sony would go there, especially when Plus is popular and Live is becoming less so as people begin to question it's value and will do so even more if PS4 approaches parity. At that point free online becomes a stick to beat the opposition with.

I definitely agree with everything except their reputation for weaker online features. While that is certainly true for the PS3, it doesn't (and most likely isn't) for PS4. They can easily market PS+ and Gaikai and other features.

I think it would be cool if Sony waits towards the end of the Press Conf. to show 2 different models of the PS4 Console both are the final build but look different and put on all of there blogs from the different regions vote on which one you would like to be mass produced. The voting will be all week of the E3, tally up the votes and announce the winner on Friday of E3 week.

This email showed up in my inbox earlier. I never signed up for this conference. Anyone else get one of these? Is it legit?

Unless you are attending personally to the event, I highly doubt this is legit. Their conference will be streamed for anyone to see without requiring an email address or any other such information.

I'd proceed with caution, I've fallen for too many of these in the past and now I don't give my email away so lightly.
