Suggested changes for AE 2013.

Gouken
  • crouching mp to be comboable afterwards
  • EX tatsu will have a lower hitbox so it'll hit crouchers
  • Stand lk to be special cancellable
  • Removed input error from counter (back, forward, back + punch will make the move come out)

Zangief
  • Decreased recovery of far standing mk
  • Stand mp nerfed (possibly adjust hurtbox)
  • Decreased range of light SPD
  • Knockdown on EX greenhand (may have to slow down the move)

Decent changes to gouken. Nothing too drastic to change his overall tier position. If the ex tatsu change goes through, he'll have a good wakeup opton for 3 bars.

What is this from

Edit: lol at nerfing 2/3 of Gief's major footsie tools

wtf so what does this mean? are those changes that fans have suggested to them, or are they changes that haunts & combofiend will suggest to capcom?

A little of both. People suggested changes on the Capcom Unity boards, then Haunts and Combofiend cherrypicked the best least bad ones to forward to Capcom.

Or this is just a front because the changes have already been decided and this is a way to get people hyped for the patch. *shrug*

Theres a similar process in japan, so the dev team takes both change lists into account when buffing Yun.

ugh i'd be pretty mad if they nerfed gief like that. i guess i might understand what they're thinking, but it's just not worth it and just not called for.

arcade vanilla zangief: good but killed by top tier, so high tier
console vanilla zangief: killed even worse by top tier console characters, still high-mid tier
super zangief: nerfs, but still mid tier
ae zangief: nerfs but at least he fights the top tier better than most, mid tier
ae2012 zangief: no nerfs, fights top tier but not as well as many others, mid tier

there's never been a reason to nerf this character. i gave my feedback and i sure as balls didn't ask for a worse neutral and standing pressure game

As Beef said, it's basically all of the Capcom Unity suggestions but picked by Combofiend/Haunts to suggest to Capcom. They've been going over them on the Challenge Capcom streams recently.

If Gief gets nerfed like that, I'd laugh a lot. Everyone should play T.Hawk instead!

When i met haunts at San Francisco i asked him for just one change: To Bring back Vanilla Damage... and to buff Yun.

Gief won a major stop complaining UtraDavid! ;)

This entire process has only made me hate other Hawk players, btw. I can't believe there are people who wanted to change the properties on his U2 so that he can do SRK > FADC U2.

I mean, I can believe it because they're idiots, but c'mon now...

I'd rather be able to land U2 off a cl.HK for T.Hawk. That floats in the current version right? I don't understand why it does that at all, lol.

I only started playing AE a bit more recently so some of these things boggle me coming from SFxT.

I dont play gief but I feel like knockdown on green hand makes up for his nerfs. What were your suggestions btw?

It would've been fun to see how the cards fell in vanilla if Super didn't come out so soon. It wasn't until shortly before Super came that people started to realize that Cammy was really good.

The character hasn't been top tier in any version of SF4 regardless of whether he has farther lp spd range or ex hand knockdown. And you wrote "may have to slow down the move." If you make it start up even just one frame slower, it won't be able to combo from jabs or shorts except on counterhit. So, that would suck without some corresponding buff. My suggestions were to make far mk less unsafe, down-toward+hk have a lower profile, lp and mp hand safe on hit but much ess damaging and more pushback so he could have a normal non-ex combo, and ex hand knock down but be one frame slower so you couldn't normally combo a light into a knockdown. While not nerfing important tools.

Just watched the archive (patch discussion for gouken/gief starts at 24 mins) and this is what combofiend said, "However, if it does happen like that[EX Green hand knocks down], it would have to be a bit slower because it would be a really strong move. That would be only on maybe the second hit."

Not exactly sure what that means.

It's completely absurd that while this patch is AE 2013 and Ono is talking about working hard, yet the US guys are acting like we're in the "still thinking about changes" stage, not the "mostly done and in testing" phase.

Maybe that's really true, but if so I hope the update is still a long way away. Test that stuff to hell and back since it may be the last update for the game.

bleh. shitty week. I should go play vidja games instead of running my mouth about random assumptions

RIP standing MP for Gief. Its what I used to stuff a lot of pokes. I feel every character should have a footsie/stupid button (ryu cr Mk, Makoto MP, Bison's MK. I didn't know Gief's standing MK was any good.

Knockdown on GreenHand sounds scary.

Also people are space controlling/playing footsies with Assists as well. This was more apparent in MVC2 though where one person would call assist and he would counter that by calling his own assist (the classical CapCom counter call).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWS6eKSfRzo

This is a good match. You can watch some aerial footsies starting at around 1:00 when Justin's Storm tries to get in against Nova who is spacing her out. Justin Wong actually plays real footsies with Wolverine too.

damn that match was beautiful

I wish they brought back giefs and hawks 360 grab range from sf2. Make people think when getting close or little distance away

No. The range is already ambiguous enough. I don't want tracking/sucking a person into a grab.

Capcom just can't make grapplers. Gief needs some new tools, not less.

capcom should copy nrs and give gief a tracking seismo that holds you in place and armor on all grabs, and change his ultra 1 into a chaos dimension activation super

Capcom has to basically do what they did in this generation. Start off with some early new generation IPs like Lost Planet and Dead Rising to optimize the next gen engine then develop the top tier IPs of Capcom like RE5 and DMC4.

So my guess is that Capcom is going to hype up Deep Down plus some other new IP then follow it up with RE7, SFV and DMC5 (berieve). Although I guess Deep Down isn't really a new IP if its Dragon's Dogma 2 but that is the type of game that could make a huge splash for next gen.

Between the gigantic (by Japanese standards) RE and Deep Down(/Dragon's Dogma 2/Skyrim pie chaser), there isn't anyone left. So NT DMC it is, and believe because Capcom is so desperate to spin missing an already lowered expectations (1.5M down to 1.2M for that period) to solid.

No Whiff animation plz.

No whiff animation would probably would lead to more option selects even though the game is drowning in them. An example is in vsav talbain could option select the cmd with RH and get that anti-air roundhouse if you try to jump it. I bet it would be rather ridiculous in the footsie game if they could option select grab a limb.

What's "the PVR?"

The hauppage. I think the El Gato also does what you want. Never tried so I don't know of the quality. I'm actually pretty disappointed in the capture quality of the LGP. My older PVR looks better in my opinion. The LGP is like the jack of all trades. It's basically capturing and streaming for dummies in one package.

Is it not that good? I remember seeing Spooky's review and it seemed good, and I was thinking of picking it up at some point if/when I have the chance so I can stream and what-not, but if it isn't the most viable option then I might find something else. Is the LGP at least easy to use compared to other devices that are for the same purpose?
