I always guessed that the reason none of the platform makers ever do this is because show-floor demos are pretty quickly thrown together and kind of hokey in places. Like, perfectly functional for journos on a show-floor, but not really the sort of representation of your game you want to make available for the mass market to play in the confines of their homes.

They have to be good enough to demo at gamespot. Anyway I agree its unlikely, but a man can dream.

This is such a dumb argument and I'm sick of seeing it. You need to actually have a product to sell if you want money...

I think he means Rockstar likes getting moneyhatted, so if Nintendo payed them the right amount than GTAV will be on Wii U.

They have limited resources and as other ports have shown, it is actually pretty hard to make good ports on the Wii U. Especially if you add unique gamepad stuff. That would be worth it if they would be guaranteed decent sales, but facts are they arent. It makes more sence for them to use their resources to really polish the platforms they release on.

That's even worse then, if Nintendo has to pay developers off just to get the same product MS and Sony are...

First, "hard to make good ports on Wii U" is completely down to the developer's desire to get it to work. PS3 and 360 have very different architectures (with PS3 ports suffering the most, as has been seen in the past), yet it has not stopped developers from making games for both of them. With the number of people that are working on GTAV, it's absurd to think they can't spare a couple more to work on a Wii U version. And the fact is, nothing is guaranteed decent sales. However, if one game is certain to at least make up for the costs of porting, it's GTAV. But if developers just want to make excuses like they've been doing for years, all the power to them...

That would be an example, and an awesome one. If only :(.

Yeah exactly. Same for the West too, even if we haven't seen any examples yet. Sony and Microsoft will be playing moneyhat to secure exclusives, and I think it's obvious third parties are trending towards Xbone and PS4 far over the Wii U. It's like the PS3 and 360 generation. Third parties will still fund and publish their own games, but Microsoft/Sony will be throwing money at them to waver licensing fees or whatever, arranging special promotions, etc, for timed or permanent exclusivity.

I think it would be very unusual to see that kind of behaviour on the Wii U because the vibe I'm getting is that third parties are shitty with hardware performance, and shitty with software sales. But that doesn't rule out Nintendo swooping in to pick up games that have otherwise been abandoned and publishing them off their own back.

I don't want to imply I actually know of any shit like that happening, mind you. Bayonetta 2 could be a once off. But it does seem like a more believable strategy for Nintendo to employ in securing exclusives. Because they sure as hell aren't going to come from publishers.

This would actually make Beyond Good & Evil 2 a great fit, and I agree with Ani that the series would probably do pretty decently on a Nintendo platform, especially if it had a Nintendo published stamp on it. But I think if BG&E2 ever actually happens Ubi will retain control and get it on as many platforms as possible.

I agree. I think that that way we could imagine ni-oh and devil's third. nothing western-side.
but both east and west we should also remember other kind of partnership, like the Atlus one and the Lego one.
I think that these three ways are the possible way of seeing exclusives for wiiiu.

They tried on Wii. They had Bully, they had Manhunt 2 and didn't they also port that weird Table Tennis game? The sales weren't enough for them to warrant further effort.

That's even worse then, if Nintendo has to pay developers off just to get the same product MS and Sony are...

That's because it's already proven that there is a market on the PS and Xbox, it hasn't been proven on Nintendo systems yet, if Nintendo pays them to get this game on Wii U and it sold well enough and than it could really help Nintendo's third party situation.

Iwata already said that they will do anything they have to, to get third party support for Wii U.

Wasn't Manhunt 2 hurt by a lot more than being on Wii.. it was basically shelved to be nerfed.. and that took a lot of wind out of its sails.

Are any of those a GTA game? No? Then I'm not really sure how you could even assume how GTA sales would fare on Wii or Wii U...

Iwata said that they will not pay to have multiplatform contents. and I agree with him. if they work looking into bayo/lego/smt like partnerships.

A late port of a PS2 game, a late down-port of an Xbox 360 game (about table tennis), and a new game bogged down by censorship issues. I can't believe these titles didn't sell enough to warrant further effort!

All of that "test the waters" PR is bullshit. You can't try to sell people old and/or crappy games and then act surprised when consumers don't respond.

A better case study might be GTA: Chinatown Wars on the DS, although their reversion to the "old-school" style of GTA capped that game's sales potential long before release, and they should have known that.

This is a fallacy. Dedicating resources is an investment, and if the return is minimal, they will choose marginally better things to invest instead.

I find it sickening to even think about the possibility of Nintendo PAYING for the "privilege" of getting GTA. There was no market for GTA on Playstation nor XBox until Rockstar tried to make it. They could at least TRY to establish a market on Wii U (heh, "tests"), and then, and ONLY then can they make a true fact-based decision on whether or not there truly is a market for the series or not...

No, it's a fallacy to assume return is minimal without actually attempting to gather some evidence for one way or the other...

We have no idea if there is even a Wii U version in the making, it hasn't even been confirmed for the PC yet, we'll see what happens.

Well i really hope they show more than the games the black shadows belong to, i'm hoping for a good race game, fps & some sort of open world explore type game. Seen enough Mario to last a life time.
They did say they wanted so called core gamers back and i'm defo not wanting a Xbone and looking at it the PS4 could well be the same crappy setup.

True, and I wasn't saying that there isn't/won't be. I was mainly arguing against the case of Nintendo having to pay for a multiplatform game...

All I honestly care about is information on X. Please, Nintendo, for the love of fuck, give me more information about X.

And I really hate when I hear people suggest they think X will be "more like Monster Hunter"(which I assume is because the trailer showed large monsters?) ... No. Please, no.

He. will. fucking. return.

I think he means Rockstar likes getting moneyhatted, so if Nintendo payed them the right amount than GTAV will be on Wii U.

I really doubt that Sony or MS have paid Rockstar to put GTAV on the PS3 and 360. That game is releasing on those platforms because they have a combined userbase of around 150m. And GTA games cost a ridiculous amount of money to develop (IV was rumored to be in the 100m range). So they need to be able to make their money back as quickly as possible.

I think that's the main reason why there isn't a Wii U version. The userbase just isn't there to justify them putting any resources into porting it.

I agree, last thing take2's ceo said was:
"We haven't announced anything," says Zelnick on the possibility of moving the company's mature titles onto the Wii U. "I'm skeptical."
after blops 2 and zombi u performing poorly I'd be surprised if that stance is anything but cemented.

Why do people assume Monolithsoft's "X" is targeting "the Monster Hunter crowd?"

Why is it not targeting the Phantasy Star Online crowd? (which is exactly the vibe I get watching that trailer)

It seems like they have too much stuff for one hour...

Pikmin 3
Wonderful 101
WiiFit U
New Super Luigi U
Mario & Luigi Dream Team
SMT4
Sonic Lost World
ALttP2
Pokemon XY
3D Mario 6
Mario Kart 8
Smash 4
Yoshi’s Epic Yarn
Yoshi’s Island 3DS
Wind Waker HD

And that’s before getting to X or Retro’s new game potentially (as well ignoring most third-party stuff) which are what I'm most excited about other than the new Mario and I think most people are looking forward to a lot. Might have to cut a lot of stuff or move through each game really quickly.

There's no reason to assume they'll re-tread through all the games they showed off at the spring/summer Direct. Also the Direct has been billed as for Wii U games rather than 3DS games and there's no indication that this won't be the case.

I'm with you. Nintendo NEED to give us another trailer, it's a system seller.

And yeah, X doesn't resemble Monster Hunter in my opinion. When I watch the trailer, I see Xenogears, Xenosaga & Xenoblade.

If you remember, Soraya Saga did tweet about the E3 Direct, so I think a new trailer is extremely likely...

Wonderful 101 wasn't shown in the summer Direct though. And he said he'd talk about Pikmin multiplayer another time. Also, Sonic World wasn't in the Direct either outside of the logo and it's a fall/winter release, so you'll surely have that in there too.
