People are truly setting themselves up for disappointment if the last few E3s are anything to go by. It's no secret Nintendo has been struggling to manage their development schedules, especially on the console side. There is no doubt we'll get Super Mario U and Kart 8 in some form, but beyond that I don't expect a whole lot. And I'm basing this purely on what I've seen from Nintendo's E3 presence since 2006.

Disappointment. Based on what we've seen from Nintendo over the last few E3s, why should we believe otherwise?
It didn't even have all the Pokemon from the first gen and was too short. And I never really found the gameplay all that interesting. I dunno, I just have a hard time seeing what people actually enjoyed, but tastes are tastes.
Because we're seeing screens of a new 3D Mario game, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros for the first time? That alone is more substance than we've had in the past two E3s.

Because development shifted from Wii to Wii U during the last few years, and Wii U games were simply not ready for first party last year. Moreover, more focused on the consumer for separate directs, and a more focused presentation means short transitions and PR. I expect it to be like Nintendo Directs, not E3's.

Times havn't been as desperate for Nintendo since 2006. They have a lot to prove with the WiiU and they know it. Iwata has somehow promised big numbers by the end of fiscal 2013. Nintendo knows Xbox One and PS4 are coming this holiday.
It's do or die. If anything, they were smart to hold back a couple of big guns for this e3. Maybe I'm getting overhyped, but if 3D Mario and Mario Kart is all they have, goddamn those games must be amazing.
yea lots of people hated how short it was but the prices hit rock bottom very quick and many people were still renting in that era so that wasn't a big problem for most. it was still a very enjoyable 5hr game. the gameplay was OK, looking back i think it has much more potential to be met which is why i think it'd make a cool modern game if they put the time into it

Hyped to see some surprises, but I'm actually interested in stuff already announced to be shown.. mostly Smash but I doubt they are very far into it unfortunately.
At least one surprise for sure, what the heck is Retro working on. This better not become the next Last Guardian situation.
If they ever do make a sequel, I'll take a look, but it's not really something I'd ask for, per se.
yes, I need posts like this. After last year I had promised myself to not get hyped and am starting to fail already damn it. Can't wait till it's over and done with.

I forget how far Melee was in development before the e3 trailer, but Brawl only had about 6 months of work prior to its 2006 trailer. If Smash U started development in June/July 2012, I'm certain we'll see a trailer of a similar scale.

Really excited about the game.
But, its depressing with having this feeling that the game is going to bomb so hard.
I think they did confirm that, but they would of confirmed it playable at the January Direct, so the best we will get is a trailer.

Sakurai mentioned in his blog that he's been playtesting Smash, so I don't think it's that unlikely that there'll be snippets of gameplay shown. Brawl's first appearance at E3 2006 had less than a year's work done on it, and there was some gameplay footage.
