Can we expect some smaller directs before the main one on the 11th?

Please, say we can! Maybe a 3DS direct like they did last year?

Sure. I could totally see a 3DS one happening next Thursday. Focused on promoting Animal Crossing but some new stuff too.

Here's my bingo card.

e3_2013_n_bingo_t.jpg

That's awesome :)

I mean, maybe they'll do more of a preamble for the E3 Direct, but, for example, in the April Direct, the first game logo comes on screen 53 seconds into the video (for Mario & Luigi RPG), while the first footage shows up at 1:06. By minute 11 they've already covered 4 games. They end up covering ~10 games in 36 minutes, plus the system update.

Correct me if I'm wrong but:
1. Mario & Luigi RPG
2. Mario Golf
3. Mario Party
4. New Super Luigi
5. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
6. Yoshi's Island 3DS
7. Mario VS Donkey Kong 3DS
8. Wii U System Update
9. Virutal Console
10. Panorama View
11. Pikmin 3
12. Earthbound announcement
13. Game & Wario
14. Monster Hunter
15. Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins
16. Animal Crossing Special 3DS XL Design
17. Zelda: Oracle VC games
18. Bravely Default
19. Professor Layton 6
20. Guild 02
21. The Legend of Zelda: LttP2

All in 36:59.
1 hour is more than enough time.

For what it's worth it seems like EatChildren likes to be very pessimistic about Directs even for ones that delivered by all possible standards :P I understand pessimism but there comes time when you have to realize that times have changed and adobt a more positive attitude.

eh, times have changed for the 3DS only. One might start going positive if they finally manage deliver encouraging WiiU news at the third E3 they have with it. (Ones that don't already deflate after the truth kicks in a couple of days later, like the Jan Direct)

I thought Monster Hunter could certainly hold me over until the console is in better shape, but it looks even worse than before, lol. And some small hype I had for Sonic already backfired at me right after :( (though most people seem to be happy about it, I'm not feeling LW...)

What you call pessimistic I call realistic and avoiding unnecessary, baseless hype. And I've never been pessimistic about a Direct that delivered after it screened, instead appreciative and happy with what was shown. I was one of the few people who seemed content with the last Nintendo Direct, despite so many foaming at the mouth with rage that Nintendo only announced a handful of release dates (exactly what it was marketed as).

Times haven't changed. I'm getting Mario 3D, Smash, and Kart in a Direct. And very likely Bayonetta 2. I'm not going to hype myself up with fantasy scenarios of shit that hasn't been formally announced, let alone confirmed to appear.

I live for that.

Exactly. People seem to forget how much of the presentations for E3 or in general, when in front of the audience, just stalls for time, spouting buzzwords, and the demonstrations are ridiculous. Microsoft's recent one was what, an hour? If they had got to the point, like Nintendo Directs, we'd have had everything within quarter of an hour

So we've been hyping Nintendo events since E3 2011 hoping to see something amazing for Wii U, nothing has happened so far. If Nintendo fails to impress yet again, will you guys keep faith...

"Wait for the next ND"? Or finally give up?

For me, I've already given up, I can't take any more disappoints.

Is it just me or has everyone forgotten the existence of the January direct?

I think people are getting confused on hype. Its all for fun. Hype should not be in the same column as expectations.

Yep, this is roughly where I stand, although I try to not get too caught up in the hype. Makes the announcements sweeter.

Directs just tend to be pretty good. Full of surprises and usually they're pretty level-headed with the pacing.

I'm trying to be realistic too but it also includes changing my expectations when more Directs come around. After E3 2012 I didn't really have faith for Nintendo putting up a good show but Directs have changed that. They're unlike anything we have seen from Nintendo before and thus should be considered separately from their other missteps. I can't remember a Direct that let people down and we have seen them for 2 years now (I think).

Not to mention that this is the first Direct they announce this well in advance. Not even Directs including new Pokemon games or a Link to the Past sequel got this treatment. It does raise some expectations and not without basis.

(Ones that don't already deflate after the truth kicks in a couple of days later, like the Jan Direct)

I don't really understand what you mean by this.

"Hello everyone, this is Iwata bringing E3 "Directly!" to you. Before we begin, I want to make sure that no one should believe Eatchildren, a moderater from the NeoGAF messageboards. He has a scary name, so that's reason enough to ignore eeverything he says." *laughs*

I still agree with the other post of Eatchildren; it's a tactic I've been using ever since Wii Fit was introduced in 2007. E3 2007 was a horrible E3 all together btw. I remember the industry restructuring the E3 and man that was one ghastly year. Can't remember anything from those presentations. '08 and '09 were about the same eventhough the latter had NSMB Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid Other M. Now 2010, that was the last great E3 presser I've seen from Nintendo and the others in general. I think it's my favourite presser ever. Starting with Skyward Sword, announcing Mario Sports Mix, Wii Party and Just Dance 2. Everybody was down when they announced those three, but afterwards they showed Golden Sun Dark Dawn, Goldeneye 007, Epic Mickey, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Dragon Quest IX, Metroid Other M and Donkey Kong Country Returns. With those games revealed, they announced the 3DS with Kid Icarus Uprising, Nintendogs + Cats, Mario Kart 7. Oh yeah, a bunch of support as well.

If that wasn't enough, after the show we hear about Star Fox 64 3D and Ocarina of Time 3D appearing on the showfloor. Thinking about it E3 2010 was absolutely insane in terms of reveals and software. While I do realize that Nintendo isn't some miracleworker and looking at the way Nintendo handles their Direct broadcasts, I hope for the same sort of pacing as the E3 2010 presser.

Can you imagine Iwata starting the Direct off with reminding people of Pikmin 3, the Wonderful 101, Wii U Party and Wii Fit in the first ten minutes? Aterwards we'll see five minutes of 3D Mario, five minutes of Mario Kart U, three minutes of Wind Waker HD and the first trailer of Smash Bros.?

It won't happen, but it's nice to dream I suppose

I should've come into this thread earlier. I was VERY hyped on the thread that got closed (beetle and wily i will always love you!), but now i can't get my hype levels high enough.

Help me soar gaf!!

Apart from the struck-through parts I could see this happening. I get the impression SMT x FE is too early for them to have anything significant to show. All they have been able to say so far is that it exists and it's not something stupid like a fighting game cross-over, it's still some sort of RPG.

And there's not really any reason for them to make Monolith Soft's new game a Monster Hunter type game when they have the real deal on their system. Xenoblade was released to critical and fan acclaim worldwide, but they didn't push it hard enough. Releasing X and giving it the full force of Nintendo's marketing would likely have good results.

I agreed with this post.

Mario 3D, Smash and Kart = 100% guarantee. That's why I'm hyped for this E3. Also i really hope that we will hear something from Retro about their project.

WWHD is also 100% guaranteed since it's launching this Fall. And, let's face it, it's a god damn Zelda game.

As is MLSI's X, thanks to Saga's tweet.

This is how I've always been about these events, it's fun to be part of the hype and watch all the gifs, but it's smart to have tempered expectations, otherwise you'll just end up disapointed.

I think it's entirely possible to get hyped and excited AND not end up being disappointed by the results. It's called not taking videogames so seriously...

Yea I dont get why hype is getting a bad name. Hype is just hype. Nothing more nothing less. If Nintendo has a bad direct, I cant do nothing about that. I still have to get up and go to school/work the next day.

Not trying to devalue anyones statement from the fun guessing games and stuff and being less excited but geez we get this Christmas once a year. And for a bit it takes the load off of things happening irl. Im not really satisfied with a few important things in life right now but this week and till E3 Im gonna live it up and have a great time on gaf with this awesome commuinity. Its like the poster who just made a thread on how gaming has eased the passing of his parents. This is why we're here. This is why we do what we do.

:( Should we expect one at some point? It wouldn't be out for a while if it is announced.
I really want a WiiU version!

It's 3-4 years between entries for the last 3, so I don't imagine it'll get released before holiday 2015 in Japan and maybe later in the West, unless their localization system really has improved.

Donkey Kong it is.

3D Donkey Kong would be my desired game from Retro :|

I don't really understand what you mean by this.

Sorry then. Just wanted to say that some sparkle of hope like the Jan Direct was irrelevant at the end of the day, since the console was still in a godawful shape for many months to come and still is. So if they'd finally manage to get some good press through a good E3 show and some surprises again, it would also ultimately mean nothing if soon after you realise that this year would mostly consist of still cleaning up the ,,launch window'' mess and maybe Wii Sports and Mario Kart.
