The Last of Us - Review Thread [Emargo up, scores in OP.]

One week earlier would have been a much better release date, I can't get over how its right after E3.

"here's a few dozen next gen games, now go play TLoU"...

Historically, I'm never motivated to play games during E3, I'm hoping this doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game. I guess its a combination of being burnt out on gaming media overload and seeing all of the promising stuff coming and wanting those games instead. Time will tell.

I think I'm just turned off by the 'might-as-well-be-zombies'. Please, no more zombies.

Seriously considering buying a PS3 just for this...

No worries

There will be great PS3 emulation on PC in oh say....15yrs :P

I want to day 1 this because I love ND but I'm no longer sure if the single player alone justifies $60. I have absolutely no interest in the MP.(especially after seeing the footage)

The meltdowns we'll get when there's a 5, 6 or 7/10 will be game changing.

I don't understand why there are meldowns over reviews. Why can't some just accept that not everyone will agree with their own thoughts and opinions? In the end, the only review and score that matters is your own.

I think it'll get low-balled by some of the "big names" for them clicks. Either way though, this game was as good as bought the moment they showed those dev walkthroughs.

Can't trust reviews until the embargo passes. It's too easy for the system to be rigged as has been evidenced many times in the past. That said, the demo looks great.

Just to derail the thread for a second.

It's up for preorder on the EU PSN now, but I'm not sure which "pack" to get? I'm leaning towards the Survival pack (tangible multiplayer bonuses, skins etc) as the Sights and Sounds pack only comes with a theme, avatar and soundtrack, which will probably be available through other means.

What do you guys think?

This game is totally going to have a Bioshock Infinite backlash. Prepare for "this game is damaging X reason" blogs all over.

Will post it here as well:

Someone who finished the game gives a good preview of what to expect (without going into much detail). All spoiler free.

I don't either, but they will occur and they will be epic.

Well the thing with Infinite is that the backlash existed for a reason. As much as I love Infinite, I can understand the people who thought the gameplay was very standard fps fair, and didn't seem to fit the world or the narrative all to much.

So unless The Last of Us has a REAL flaw that's major than of course backlash will occur. But that remains to be seen.

I bought mine for Demon's Souls and to a lesser extent Uncharted 2. Demon's Souls was totally worth the cost of the system. Uncharted, not so much. It was an "okay" (too much hand-holding and shoot, shoot, shoot, cutscene) one-time play for me, so it was basically a $60 rental.

The Last of Us actually looks like a Naughty Dog game that I'll actually enjoy from this gen.

I hope the game doesn't put too much emphasis on jump scares for horror. Despite being extremely susceptible to them, I think they are the weakest way to invoke a sense of horror. I get scared easily and can't remember the last horror game I actually finished.

Redbox would be your safest bet I'd imagine. Why won't you just buy it? No dinero?
After doing my 2012 taxes I realized that I spend way too much money on video games at launch.

My New Year's Resolution for 2013 is to not pay $60 for a video game and that has been very easy and nice due to Steam and GreenManGaming.

TLoU is the first console game I've been interested in, though, so I'm trying to figure out how I should work around that one since I would like to own the physical media.

Probably Redbox it the day it comes out if I can find it and then get a physical copy at the end of the year for $20 or whatever.

I spent over ten thousand dollars on new games last year, which is what you get for getting every game that comes out the day it comes out for full retail price.

Eventually I figured "Why the fuck am I spending $60 on a bunch of things I will only play for 5 hours or so?".
