I get the Uncharted 2 talk, but I dont. This game, to me, does NOT feel like a Naughty Dog game whatsoever. The control feel is certainly familiar, but besides that I feel like Im on the other side of the spectrum with them with this one.

This is them doing their best Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Manhunt impressions and theyve excelled in spades as far as Im concerned and thats just going by the demo.

I really wish game reviewers would stop looking for video games' "Citizen Kane moment." This and similar phrases are uttered so commonly that you can smell the desperation to be taken seriously.

This is not at all to say this isn't a fun game, mind you.

Interesting.

Question: What is a ND game?

I thought it is was attention to detail, nuance, tight mechanics, great story and solid above par acting and directing.

To me, TLOU falls right into place. ....ah based on the demo.

Wanting videogames to grow from scores and sprites and elevate to "art" is great. Saying "I understand the depth of Citizen Kane and what it did for cinema" and using that as a credibility card is laughable but I don't think that's what's happening here. The guy just wants to be quoted.

soooo... ND gets the game of this generation?

Who cares, they've put out two new IP's, one that (imo) revolutionised gaming for better or for worse, and both franchises which are of absolute top pedigree. They get my vote as best developer of the generation either way.

Everything they've developed has been pretty lighthearted stuff until this. Granted, I know Jak 2 or 3 is considered "dark" for the series and the Uncharteds had some moments, but this game seems like a pure detour for them in terms of tone, depiction of violence, atmosphere, character depth and so forth.

Or he wanted to find an apt comparable for his opinion within cinema, since you know, the magazine revolves around film reviews first and foremost...

Ok.
Your perspective was purely(majority) tone. I respect that.

Pleased to see the great reviews up for The Last of Us. I got it paid off so all I have to do is walk into EB Games and pick it up at launch.

but we get Oscar worthy moments, so of course we should have our Citizen Kane moments too.

I'll echo this. Nothing more off-putting than reading blatant hyperbole. Let the fans decide the Citizen Kane for videogames themselves.

I'm really glad this is coming out on the Friday of E3 week. E3 always makes me want to play games coming down the pipe but rarely anything to tide me over. I also finish work at 8AM on Fridays so I can just sleep until my package arrives from Amazon and marathon it.

yeah, but, Emargo lol

Ok.. you have broken me:

We need more major game releases on Fridays. It's payday for a lot of people and its the end of the week which can guarantee more sales for the weekend.

They don't look for those "moments". They are simply too lazy to properly describe why they feel the way they feel, and instead bring up classic and cherished moments in movies and literature in order to alleviate their prose without any effort. By design itself such extrapolation is bound to fail. But hyperbola also drives clicks and revenue, apart from publicity and recognition. Positives outweigh the negatives.

Naughty Dog, FROM and Platinum are the only devs I need.

And Nintendo :)

It's Friday for most games in the UK. Only recently have we started having Tuesday release dates for certain games (like Bioshock: Infinite, for example).

Agreed. It feels so different and still kind of numbing that ND didn't something not so family friendly. I like that they took a chance tho

In case anyone was curious, Shawn Elliot's Anna Karenina Theory was that even if you know the ending to a piece of fiction, it's more about the journey to the destination than the destination itself. Knowing the ending does not necessarily ruin it or make it substantially less impactful.

He proved this by telling everyone the ending to Anna Karenina. :P

Game of Thrones Season 3 Episode 9 conflicts with this. I knew nothing, that shit blew my mind. My cousin knew, and it didn't have nearly the same level of impact.

Yep, I knew it was coming and it didn't effect me a fraction as much as the ending of Boardwalk Empire Season 2.

I didn't know, either, and I agree that if I knew it would not have had the same experience as I did watching GoT last night.

Dat GoT episode... OJSDGHSJHFSAFAVXCVAfafc Still can't get over it.

Same lol. Was just thinking about it earlier.

Can someone please make a countdown timer? This PDT/EDT mumbo jumbo is confusing with all the time differences.

Anyone? : (

Some of the reactions on YouTube are great.

jesus..if TLoS gets an average like 90+

only ND can deliver two new successful IPs in a generation easily.

What do you mean 'if'? It’s a given at this point. Naughty Gods indeed!
