If the bundle being recall thing is true (and Kotaku says it is), it happening this close to E3 has to mean something big is going down.
This is Panic Mode action.
Getting rid of Basic and replacing it with Black/White Premium for its price.

Nintendo's Wii U Software Showcase is Tuesday morning at 10:30 at their E3 booth. Half hour presentation with Miyamoto and Reggie. An hour of play then afterwards.
Wow what a brain lapse, completely forgot the ND is starting at 7:00AM PDT. I was thinking of the ND starting at 10:00AM EDT though the software showcase is happening at 10:30AM PDT and them doing something similar to the 3DS Direct with the press event afterwards.

I don't like the sound of it starting at 10:30 AM... That doesn't bode well for the ND.
Sooo, looks like a price drop is imminent. They're recalling all of the basic models, so only deluxe models remain. I wonder where they'll take this. Introduce a white variant, and knock down the price, from $350 to... $300? $280? ...$250? With the eShop up and running, they can easily pull an Ambassador Program 2.0 for early adopters.
Such a move, together with a killer lineup, could work wonders.

I wouldn't call that panic mode. I would call that common sense to be honest. Turd pack was selling like shit. With that in mind, the price was theoretically $350 to most people when they look at the price of the Wii U.
Wii U needs to be $250 badly

Why the ND is at 7:00am PST and the gameplay demo at 10:30am PST. Why doesn't that bode well?
That presentation is for the press. I don't think it's been confirmed if it'll be screened. Not sure why it affects the press.
The Nintendo Direct starts at 7AM while the software showcase is at 10AM, how does that not bode well?
Anyway, this confirms no demo play through through the Direct which is good

Or maybe Iwata tricked us on them not making profitA price cut will make their revenue predictions impossible to hit.
It's something they'd likely have considered before doubling down on them.
Well Nintendo has been acting a bit....weird in the common sense area so calling it panic mode probably wouldn't be too farfetched lol.
I agree panic is a overstatement. Its like when Nintendo showed off all those games in the January direct and people act like they just flipped a switch or something.Still, doesn't take much to realize this:
"herpaderp, Bazics modlez is sell bad adn premiuuuuum iz zellingz b3tter. lets k1ll bazic."

$250 seems a little drastic. I'd imagine $300 would do just fine.
don't get yourself overhyped in the wrong places. the basic bundles being recalled were inevitable because they weren't selling. they could just be slapping them in a new deluxe box and calling it a day.

While I agree with this instance saying it is panic is an overstatement, I think it is fair to say the January Direct was released due to panic of poor Wii U sales. Only conjecture here, but it would be safe to say that Direct wasn't a part of their schedule (they prematurely revealed games with screenshots or barely any footage) and that they were thinking that it would help boost the Wii U's sales or something.
Guys, what would you do if on the 10th, Nintendo announced that they were moving their E3 back two more weeks?

Wii U needs to be $250 badly
Wii U needs games. G-A-M-E-S.
Nintendo Representatives wouldn't necessarily be privy to that information.
Wii U needs to be $250 badly
Wii U needs to be $250 badly
How does that make any sense? They'd release the basic pack in a box that says premium? Then buyers would get screwed over if they bought the white Wii U xD
True but the ridiculouness that circulated it was just terrible. Some jornos online called titles like X and stuff vaporware.. lolWhile I agree with this instance saying it is panic is an overstatement, I think it is fair to say the January Direct was released due to panic of poor Wii U sales.
