Why are we still talking about old crap when E3 is right around the corner? Keep the unnecessary negativity out of this thread, it is literally the only tolerable place on NeoGAF to discuss X1 right now.

Too late man, even thuway change his mind most of "them" will treat it like fact lol

Even worse, the rumor is on the web now:

About a month ago I was told by an unnamed source that Microsoft was having heating issues with the Xbox One. There wasn’t enough details to go forward with a story so it was kept under wraps until more information surfaced on this issue. Today, a completely different source close to the Xbox One project, informed me that Microsoft will have to under clock the Xbox One about 100-200mhz to fix the systems heating issues.

What does this mean to developers? Well we already know that the PS4 is more of a powerhouse than the Xbox One. It has faster RAM and bus bandwidth than the Xbox One already. Under clocking the system will widen the gap between the two consoles, but at the same time will keep the failure rate on the Xbox One very low. The last thing we need is another RRoD fiasco. In terms of games, you will see a significant difference in multiplatform titles. Lower clock speed means lower frame rates. This means that a game running 60fps on PS4 may only run at 30fps on Xbox One. Even given the current specs, this would probably still be the case except now we are under clocking the GPU. This could affect other things like the Peak Shader Throughput. If Minecraft were to be released for both Xbox One and PS4, you’d see no difference. A game like Battlefield 4 my run at a lower framerate on the Xbox One than it does on the PS4. We still don’t know how much the eSRAM is going to boost or hinder performance of the Xbox One. We also can’t leave out the fact that every developer, every game and every engine runs differently. They could theoretically boost frame rates on the Xbox One to match PS4 by turning off AA effects and lowering resolution.

I’ve received this information from two different sources, but I would still chalk it up as a rumor until we are able to get more information from Microsoft. Things could still change between now and launch. I wouldn’t worry too much about this problem because under clocking the system is the safest route to go when issues like this arise. The biggest test will be when Digital Foundry gets their hands on the first multiplatform next generation title.

1. You're more of a junior then I am.

2. Everything they showed could have been CG. The Quantum Break game, the EA stuff, CoD and Forza. Whether it was actually CG or not doesn't matter, the point is nothing came close to feeling like a real tangible game you could play. When Sony showed Deep Down, even though it was obviously CG it still felt like a game, and that get's the gamer juices boiling.

Well seeing as it's already been confirmed that the Forza 5 trailer was in fact not CG and even a month old at the time of reveal...

It's insane to think that the CoD footage was CG as it really didn't look that great.

FordGTGuy does have a valid point, though. Sure, people's expectations might have gone crazy, and who can blame people for hoping and praying, contrary to what was said by Aaron Greenberg on that podcast 3 to 4 days before the reveal, that the event would end up being packed with many more games and big game related announcements than what Greenberg made it sound like.

He said it, we knew what it sounded like, but we all hoped that there would be some megatons regardless. And, to be honest, it gets drowned out amidst all the other stuff, but Quantum Break was a massive announcement in my eyes. It was great to see that Microsoft is committing to that kind of new ip, and from Remedy no less. I almost felt like it was their way of saying to gamers "Yea, we know we're going to bombard you with a lot of stuff you may not want to see right now, but, seriously, we aren't fucking around and this new Remedy IP is just a small taste of what's to come."

I genuinely felt it was tossed in there to be their "mini-megaton" of the reveal event, and it sure as hell was for me. That doesn't mean it's all of a sudden sufficient, because it isn't and gamers always want more, and we aren't necessarily wrong for wanting that. But all that aside, Microsoft really and truly couldn't have been anymore clear regarding their intentions for that reveal event. I don't think Microsoft is completely free from some fault, but they were honest about what they were going to do, and they followed through precisely as they said they would. Maybe we all felt Microsoft was somehow trying to purposely decrease our expectations, because they knew they had something huge to drop on us, or maybe they really and truly wanted to dial back our expectations for the reveal.

The way Greenberg talked about their E3 show sounded like a preemptive apology for what was going to be shown at the reveal. It really did come off that way, and now we know why that is. But, again, we have not seen the full vision of what they want the new Xbox to be. They always said it was a two part story they were telling. We saw part one.

The reveal event was headlined with "A New Generation of Entertainment." E3 is titled "A New Generation of Games."
Btw,you sure about that?

Apparently some posters hate fun or others having it.

Those twitter posts that confirmed that were removed.

We will know soon enough seeing as E3 is days away.

It's odd that it would be CG when Phil Spencer said it was a month old at the time of the reveal, why even mention the age when it's CG?

Not sure about that, but the IQ in the screenshots and trailer looked to good to be true.

All these rumours are becoming exhausting.

My initial thought was that maybe the One needs to do poorly to give MS the slap on the wrist they seem to deserve right now.

Buy the more hate this thing gets, the more I want it to outsell its competitors just to see all the confused whining that would ensue.

I'm still hyped for E3. Just trying to maintain some real expectations.

Ah rumors.

Every console while in development has hardware issues.

But hey, lets see how the games look in comparison to the PS4 at E3 before grabbing the pitchforks.
As for the other thread, you already have people posting "troll" comments as fun because that is what it is.

What's the big deal in worrying about yield problem? Shit won't miss the holiday season unless Don Mattrick is bent on getting fired.

And heat can't be an issue with that big ass fan they have now. I hope.

Well, I think it's 1.6 billion transistors (quick guess), I haven't bothered to look it up or anything. So, no doubt without ESRAM you could have more CUs, but then you'd have a much too powerful GPU that has far more power than it has available bandwidth to properly utilize, and the last thing you want is a badly balanced GPU. For all the kicks in the ass that Microsoft are getting for going with the design that they have, they have an incredibly well balanced GPU that, if you compare to the most similar GPUs on the PC, can be said to have quite a bit more bandwidth than it necessarily needs.

So, under the scenarios that Microsoft were in, their choice was a much more powerful GPU whose power largely goes wasted because it doesn't have nearly enough bandwidth to feed all the execution resources, or they go for something a bit more conservative that they can much better supply with the bandwidth it needs, can ensure much greater efficiency from, and has really good, much more manageable TDP levels. I've said it before, but everybody is apparently going to be afraid of this system until they see some games that give them less of a reason to doubt the system's power, and I feel pretty strongly that we will see such games. Once people see those one or two games that gives them a favorable idea of what the system is capable of, pretty soon afterwards the power discussion will be for anyone still somehow interested in keeping score, but the games will command more of the attention.

What determines the final power is an arbitrary metric, like framerate. If they decided that taking transistors from processing power and adding them to a larger in chip cache that was probably a decision to improve the performance of the design, at least for the metric they chose. The problem is that we don't know what that metric was... It could be in game performance, it could be running a game with apps and others tasks running in parallel without sacrificing much of the game's framerate...

But I will say this: I've never, in my whole life, ever saw a algorithm/application/game that saturated the processor's performance so much that you couldn't even do an extra simple add... Not unless the problem required magnitudes more of processing power. But I've seen, plenty of times, layout of data and poorly coordinate memory access hindering performance plenty of times. And for that, having more in memory chip, that is as fast as a cache can and usually does help more that adding more processing power.

What I mean to say, is that I don't think we will see much of a difference performance wise between them, and in some cases xbone will probably be faster even. Processing power is like the cheapest resource you have available on a system, unless there's a huge disparity, it's one of the easiest to hide... They have similar budgets on power consumption, chip size and cooling requirements... Much like they had with 360 and Ps3. They create custom designs to suit their needs, but in the end, unless one of the screw up similar constraints will define similar performance.

At the moment I think the biggest point of disparity is going to be the extra 2GB available on Ps4, down the years I'm sure that will start to make a difference.

Not to mention it would be the first time Turn 10 ever released such a large gallery of images of CG...

Those look great! Except they forgot that cars driving down the road get a bit dirty. There is not one grain of sand or one spec of dirt anywhere on that car in that video. In fact, When there are close shots of the wheel wells and the tires are spinning up... not even a scuff of rubber or anything goes anywhere.

Next Gen...Phfft. Seriously though, they really need to add some dirt and grime if they don't want the Toy Story "Fake" look. Where is that power of the cloud? JK

Soooo, I'm in a dilemma.

I'm in Phoenix for my wedding next weekend and a week ago I entered the drawing for 250 Xbox E3 tickets just on a whim assuming I wouldn't win...

I just got the email with my ticket to the event today. I'm so pumped but LA is a 6 hour drive from Phoenix and money is kinda tight...but I want to go so damn bad! I still haven't decided if/how I would go.

/first world problems

Remember the days when you would open up a copy of Electronic Gaming Monthly or Die Hard Gamefan and you saw a bunch of games that looked awesome on a new system and you thought that you had to have it. There were no articles about yield problems or DDR3 vs GDDR5. No talking points about how many teraflops there are. It was about what system had the better games. Anybody hung up on this crap needs to get over it. Wait until E3 and see if the games are games that you would want to play. It's really that simple. I can't wait!

Haha so you'd be on your honeymoon? Whats your fiancee soon to be wife got to say about this trip?

Is she cool with the idea?

Haha, true. Sometimes I wonder if I wouldn't appreciate gaming more without the gaming community. I'm not sure gamers were completely oblivious to tech specifications back then, but I sure was (I had no idea there were performance differences between a SNES and a Megadrive, for example).

The amount of negativity and FUD on this forum is getting sad, I don't remember anything like it since the Dreamcast days. In fact the sad part is that many people seem to enjoy it. I had the naive opinion that we were here because we all liked similar things, but at the moment it's more about hating than loving.

Anyway, I'll stop ranting now since it's not a positive attitude either. :)

The wedding is on the 15th and the briefing is the 10th so I'd be back the same day if I went.

If they were on the same day there's no way in hell I'd drive to LA haha

You want on the train bro? It'll make you feel better.

Hey, why not. E3 is more about all consoles, but since the Xbox is opening the show, let's get hyped for it. :)

So i got the SenjutsuSage like info, the issue happened because it's from last year autumn and already solved
And the 3-OS system make Xbox team need spent 3 months to find a way solve it,maybe that's why the OS not ready yet at May

Well i won't make ban bet, take it like gain of salt

We need a motto, something like "forget the specs, just take the games" xD

Wii U users know a lot of this.

Honestly those of use with gaming PCs really couldn't care less about these power claims, as long as the Xbox One can pull off some alright looking graphics I'll be fine with it.

I love games, but I can't deny that I want real next gen games, jaw dropping games, with physics everywhere at 1080p.

I need to see the games, but I need to know the price too ($499? WTF). Of course, "the games", but at the end, all systems will show games.

I was around when the gaming-age forums were around and sites like nintendojo were popular. It was the start of the era I like to call "too much information" . People were tearing their hair out trying to justify their purchasing decisions by trying to find any disadvantage the competing console had.
Its like going to a Star Trek movie and disproving the science behind it. Go to the f'n movie and escspe for two hours and enjoy it.

@XboxP3 Hi Mr.Phill Spencer, the 15 exclusives are going to be present at E3 conference?

Phil Spencer Phil Spencer ‏@XboxP3 2h
@HugodrAndrade E3 show is all games but we'll still have more exclusives to announce post E3. I expect GamesCom to be a good event.

Not all 15 at E3?

Spreading FUD, the thread.

I like how they try and bait Crazy Buttocks, an actual legit source, into confirming it but he doesn't.

Like any dubious rumor, it's best not to take it too seriously. Some of it could be true (Microsoft experiencing heat issues with Xbox One), all of it could be true (so they are totally going to underclock the GPU) or none of it could be true (all of the people parroting this have been wrong before)

Not all 15 at E3?

I've been saying that for a while, games like MS Osaka's are clearly going to be saved for TGS (and honestly they don't have the time to show them all anyway)

I'm excited for the new xbox. Microsoft is too huge of a corporation to come out sputtering (the reveal was sorta a sputter, but it was expected). I still feel that all of these rumors are just that...rumors. Nothing confirmed yet.

Will one console be more powerful than the other? Sure...of course and it looks like the playstation will be the king.

I just don't give two shits about how much power either system has. The only thing i care about are the games that are being produced and how they will run on them.

I want to see a bad ass RPG reveal.
