Holy shit, I just finished a unit test and I was stressed, come here and see the amazing scores. Insane, congrats to the team at naughty dog.

Almost perfect scores across the board? Very interested to hear fellow GAFfers impressions.

I wonder if Sony should have done a thing like Nintendo did with Zelda and moved this to a PS4 launch title instead.

I'm not trolling. I'm actually pissed. But whatever I'm calm now. Just think it's bullshit is all and unfair to Naughty Dog and Sony.

One review which labelled the game as between good-great is nothing to be pissed about, and these sorts of reaction do nothing to help the crap state of games journalism in which most reviewers are afraid to badmouth any major AAA releases.

Our French review is up, no score as usual.

No videos for the moment, we have to get them approved and Naughty Dog (or whoever is doing the approval) couldn't even play our 59.94 captures correctly...

Anyway, Driftwood who reviewed it absolutely loved the game, despite a few not so important flaws.

We'll try translating the review, but it's *huge* so maybe we'll have to just go with a quick summary.

There's an English bit at the end of that article.

To be completed...

Not sure if intentional or not.

7.5 from Polygon. I wonder how that score would differ if the site wasn't funded
by Microsoft. I fucking hate that site.

Is it just me or is Tom McShea a massive click baiter? Skyward Sword 7.5, inFamous 2 7.5 are some of his other reviews that come to mind

You can understand why scoring is my least favorite part of my job. I am harsh. We have a 10 point scale, after all, and I try to use it. Worthwhile games can exist in a range outside of the top 1%. I have given my personal Game of the Year an 8.5 on three separate occasions (Dead Rising 2, Terraria, and Ratchet: Crack in Time), so you can see how much value I put on 8-range games.

The Last of Us didn't earn a 9 (or higher) in my eyes. However, it's still an incredible experience.

This is impressive. And so what at the Polygon score? They had their reasons, but don't let it stop you from enjoying a game you have been looking forward to. lol

Uh. It's very super important that video game review sites validate the opinion I have of a game that I haven't even played yet. It is literally a life and death situation. Gosh.

Was anybody expecting any lower, this is Naughty Dog and seems be last major PS3 exclusive from them so yeah expected high scores.

Getting a bunch of 10s doesn't mean anything. Uncharted 2 got great scores without being a good game. All you need is the right balance of exclusivity and pre-release hype, while attempting to be "deep" with a tacked on story that doesn't suit your gameplay. Bioshock did it just a few months ago. If you have the right budget it's pretty easy to get the press to cum all over your games.

hey c'mon

uncharted 2 is a lot better than infinite.

but yeah b:i really did strike me at times as a cynical frankenstein of a game designed to hit a bunch of bulletpoints that reviewers love.

Edge, Eurogamer, GiantBomb, Destructoid perfect scores are a bit suprising thought one of those would lowball it at least for the attention. Edge being the most suprising, IGN review you can throw out they even gave Judgement a point higher than everyone else and every big budget game they seem in love with. Maybe this game is decent.

Edit: sad I really can't read much of the reviews like with Bioshock Infinite because of the spoilers, that IGN Halo 4 video review still upsets me.

God I hate embargoes. You wait weeks desperate to read some reviews and then all of a sudden you've got 30 to get through in half an hour. I've only read two and I'm all tuckered out already.

Guys, some of you are getting embarrassing again, please stop.

7.5s and 8s are still good scores.

NeOJaF stahp pls
Shades of Uncharted 3 all over again in this thread. I guess it's the same ND fans that are over dramatic.

The game is getting pretty much straight 10s and people are taking personal offense from two non-10 scores. SMH.

Man, seems like a great swan song for the PS3 and this generation. Probably the first game I'll be buying at full price in a long time.

As stated before I haven't completed it. But there's graphical glitches yeah.
Fair enough.

I think the demo is clear evidence that at least some of the building interiors are not particularly impressive.

I won't be surprised if the graphical high points are at the top of the competition, though.
Yeah, kind of like Uncharted 3 where some levels really stood out but overall the visuals were inconsistent.

Well, you're wrong. It's not unfair to not love something you don't love, and to tell your readers about it.

I'm not saying Polygon are or aren't biased, or are or aren't good, but no game has any default worth, whatever you take from it can't be wrong.

Definitely story. The mechanics are fully introduced and integrated into the experience by hour 8 or even before depending on how fast you "get it". The game doesn't evolve beyond that.

They throw in some new weapons here and there, but in the end you will have a set routine of taking on stuff and will probably stick to that (at least I did, unless I was forced into a corner due to not enough ammo, and had to resort to using weapons I was not comformtable with).

But I am happy that ND didn't try to force in some one off gimmick gameplay sections just to freshn up the experience, they have a really solid gameplay loop and they stick to it. For me I was a bit worn out by it in the end, but I doubt that will be the consencus, due to people have different playstyles and the game is surprsingly adapt at supporting them.

Thanks. To be clear, I think a good gameplay loop can be plenty justification for further length, so long as the variance and challenge of the encounter design are appropriately ratcheted up throughout. Gimmicks aren't the only way to extend a game's natural lifespan. (See: a great action game like Bayonetta or great shooters like Vanquish and Halo)
