Anyone annoyed by that AI not noticing Ellie? Seems really noticeable and doesn't seem to jive with the realistic tone of the game

i brought that up in the review on the latest podcast (ps nation) but it was a relatively rare occurrence for me. I acknowledged that it happened and did take me out of the experience when it did, but over the course of 18.5 hours, it was rare enough not to matter in the big picture. for me anyway.

I like destructoids review. I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't that impressed with the demo but I still preordered the game and will probably love it when I get some context and start from the beginning instead of getting thrusted into the middle of the game.

I wonder if the 97 Metacritic will hold up? That would put it with the likes of GTA IV, Bioshock, and Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2.

Wow these scores are just incredible. I seriously did not expect this new franchise to be better scored than Uncharted. A ten from IGN is not than uncommon, but to score 10 almost everywhere is very strange. The polygon score is certainly an outlier here.

I'm so glad I don't place much stock in reviews anymore. The last few years have taught me that they rarely correlate to my own opinions strongly enough that I should be making purchasing decisions based on them. I am very excited to play this game however.

Can't help but laugh at accusations of MS bias against outlets giving low score. More diversity in reviews should be something we encourage

Our French review is up, no score as usual.

No videos for the moment, we have to get them approved and Naughty Dog (or whoever is doing the approval) couldn't even play our 59.94 captures correctly...

Anyway, Driftwood who reviewed it absolutely loved the game, despite a few not so important flaws.

We'll try translating the review, but it's *huge* so maybe we'll have to just go with a quick summary.

glad you guys are still around! I love gamersyde! Looking forward to your e3 coverage

And Gamespot's 8 was among the newly added. Is Polygon on Metacritic?

Why do you care so much about Metacritic? It's obvious that reviewers think this game is good. The people who have played the demo, myself included, mostly think the game is good. Metacritic is what's wrong with games bro.

lol.

i bet you a trillion dollars that the last of us is better than Remember Me.at least everyone in the world will think this way.Polygon gave that game 8.0

I bet you a trillion dollars there is at least one person in the world who will enjoy Remember Me more than The Last of Us.

To your Polygon point: Two different reviewers. Use just an ounce of critical thinking and maybe you won't end up in a compilation of embarrassing posts.

Jesus, those are some high scores.

I honestly didn't expect it, I thought it would Uncharted with zombies. I was wrong. Maybe I can convince my brother to buy it on his PS3 so I can play it.

Naughty Dog would be proud. Sony's finest 1st party developer since the PSX.

The thing about length is that we have an infinite amount of "fun" things to do, from playing great multiplayer titles, going through backlogs, reading, watching movies/tv, hanging out with friends, hiking, sports, etc. so my philosophy when it comes to length is make your work, whatever medium it is, as long as the length at which you can deliver nothing but your top tier A-game, because that's what I could choose to go do if your game ever dips below that quality; then you're making me spend my time in-optimally if you do make me play through less high tier work. For example, Dota 2 is always fun; in fact, it's almost always better than whatever else I could be playing to me. If you cannot bring your A-game past a certain point or the game starts to drag because you're going through redundant material mechanically (and, yes, I absolutely felt this way about RE4 at times) I shouldn't be playing your game then; I should be playing Dota 2.

Completely agree, good post.

I've had the exact same experience lately with Dota 2, I have 2-3 games in my backlog I could be playing but I find myself going back to Dota 2 because I know what I will get.

Pretty much all the quotes from the OP read like someone on the take wrote them.

I'll probably just watch some gameplay footage or something before buying the thing. I wanna believe the game's good, but with the absurdly bad combat mechanics in Uncharted, I'm not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Clearly the latter, which seems to have gone right over many heads.

DatDude has a history of going too far with game fanboyism, see: BioShock Infinite. So it can go either way. This is either a sabotage from the "BI is the GotY" camp or he has extended the madness to a new client.

Anyway it will be fun if Tom Chick decides he hates it and naturally scores it 1 or 2 points lower than he probably should.

Rotten Tomatoes doesn't show you the "best" movie, it shows you the most liked one.

I can't help but notice the success of games this generation where you have a woman or young girl as a partner. Bioshock Infinite, Last of Us, Walking Dead.

The amount of 10s being thrown around is worrying.

Uncharted 2 (even 3!) and Bioshock Infinite got the same treatment, and we all know how shallow and repetitive those games turned out to be, they provided deep emotional response through the roof though!

I wonder when was the exact moment that game reviewers and gamers in general decided to get dumb all of a sudden.

Agree with this. I think all of the above mentioned games are good, solid games but really, gamers and reviewers really need to start being more critical to drive the industry forward. I'm sure I'll like this one when I play it but I highly doubt I'm going to go apeshit over it like everyone else will.

Is this IGN's first 10 since they went back to 0.1 increments? When they reviewed Uncharted 3, I believe they were still using 0.5 increments (9.0, 9.5, 10)

You can understand why scoring is my least favorite part of my job. I am harsh. We have a 10 point scale, after all, and I try to use it. Worthwhile games can exist in a range outside of the top 1%. I have given my personal Game of the Year an 8.5 on three separate occasions (Dead Rising 2, Terraria, and Ratchet: Crack in Time), so you can see how much value I put on 8-range games.

The Last of Us didn't earn a 9 (or higher) in my eyes. However, it's still an incredible experience.

It's cool, man. You don't need to respond to any of this.

7.5 from Polygon. I wonder how that score would differ if the site wasn't funded
by Microsoft. I fucking hate that site.

Again, Forza Horizon got 6/10 on Polygon. So seriously, quit this nonsense, it's pathetic.

If you don't agree with the score, why not read the review and add some constructive criticism regarding their complaints about the game.

Why do you care so much about Metacritic? It's obvious that reviewers think this game is good. The people who have played the demo, myself included, mostly think the game is good. Metacritic is what's wrong with games bro.

Maybe he wants to see GTAIV surpassed ;)

NeoGAF is not one person you can attribute every quote here to and expect them to mesh well.

That's not my point. My point is that people always complain when review sites tend to stick to the 7-10 scale, but look at this thread. Look at how many readers are furious - furious! - that Polygon dared to give a highly-anticipated game a 7.5/10. It's insane. No wonder gaming sites seem to feel trapped by the score scale.

People People can we stop talking about the Polygon review. Sometimes games don't click with individuals. I have friends that don't like SMG. I personally worship at that altar but it does nothing for them. No product ever released is going to appease everyones tastes so can we cut the guy some slack and recognize his review will likely reflect a group of people that will definitely think the same thing and in that case his review is a great barometer for them.

Lets move on.

Haven't read this thread... but no surprise with that polygon score.

Once you take money from a console maker you have no credibility going forward.

You know, whether that is true or not, people are going to always think that considering the huge amount of cash they received from Microsoft to get their website off the ground. If someone gave me lots of money to get my business venture off the ground, I would have a hard time NOT feeling some type of loyalty to them.

Oh well, instead of focusing on Polygon's low score, which I am sure will get changed in the near future, look at all the rest of the scores. They are fantastic.

Polygon knows exactly what they are doing.

Uncharted 2 and 3 did not provide deep emotional responses at all. BI didn't either until the very end. From the sounds of it TLoU does.

FUCK OFF POLYGON :P

Weird that it was predicted for them to be particularly low-scoring. Any spoilers before I check the content?

Polygon work by the rule of 2.

If they rate a game shit, just add 2 points to what it's really worth. If they rate a game super good, then subtract 2... It levels out if you use this rule.

The difference is that Eurogamer is a great and serious site while Polygon is not, regardless of what they give to this or that.

People didn't think they were so great when they dared to give the mighty Uncharted 3, the game that single handedly turned video games in to an art form (for the millionth time) an 8.

I'd like to think we all know by now how completely bullshit reviews are in this industry, and that the ridiculous inflation that occurs constantly should tell people not to take them seriously. Yet we have people dick riding a bunch of 10s while calling out a 7.5 as being a bribe, all the while well posting on message boards about how they want review scores to use the whole scale and stop contributing to a culture of AAA budgets and hype. It's ridiculous.

GTA IV is 98, out of reach me thinks for TLoU
