Aonuma leaving Zelda and working on his own adventure IP would be great for Nintendo. Not because I dislike Aonuma's work but because I think the Zelda saga needs new blood butI still want Aonuma to deliver a game without being limited by Zelda's world, staples and lore.

And Nintendo NEEDS new flaship IPs.

His last Zelda credit was as assistant director on Wind Waker. He's directed Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Mario Galaxy (where his story stuff is really evident in Rosalina's book) and Flipnote Studio and produced Galaxy 2 and 3D Land since then.

Its ironic that one of the best story guys at Nintendo are in charge of Mario. Not that he is not brilliant at it, but still.

From Edge thread

Aonuma on Zelda:
It's an interview and he says that he understands people want change but they also want it to still be a Zelda game so they are focusing on expanding the ways to play whatever that means. He asked Miyamoto and Tezuka for advice on making a sequel to LttP and apparently they can't remember a lot, he uses the example that when faced with the question of why Link went from being left to right handed, Miyamoto replies "I forget." There is nothing in the game that will force the use of 3D and the gyros will not be used either because of destabilising the 3D effect. The game runs at 60fps in 3D. As he is getting older, Aonuma eventually wants to work on other new ideas not related to Zelda. Though he admits whatever he makes would probably be similar to a Zelda game anyway.

sounds promising.

god lttp2 is going to be so average... the sooner Aonuma moves on from Zelda, the better. Give it to EAD Tokyo already.

What's that? Looks like a fish.
:p

Okay, this took a little more time than I had planned.

Guys, don't forget that Game & Wario, Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 are unlikely to be covered here. When this was announced, it was with another Nintendo Direct. That Nintendo Direct was for Summer releases and included those three. The E3 Direct was stated to be for games from Autumn and beyond
Didn't Iwata say that he'd talk about multiplayer and some other Pikmin 3 shit in "the next Direct"? I mean, I don't want him to spend time on that, but I thought it was already confirmed. Same for The Wonderful 101, but I wouldn't mind more details on that game. The ones that I don't expect to see at all are Game & Wario and Luigi U.

The opposite is true. Koizumi is actually on record as having had to sneak story stuff passed Miyamoto in to the Zeldas he worked on:
This is really the only thing I dislike greatly about Miyamoto. He also killed the original characters and the focus on story of Paper Mario: Sticker Star, which would have been a great game if it had those things.

This should be the most insane E3 ever.
All companies are on their toes to give their best. One screw up and it'll haunt them forever.

This is exciting.

Just double checked and they said "at another time". Not specifically at this Nintendo Direct, but yeah it's possible I guess.

Sometimes I think this man just has automated Twitter responses.

Hideki Kamiya, the man, does not exist. Rather, the Kinetic Action Manufacturer Incorporating Youthful Absurdity, or KAMIYA, A.I. runs a constant Twitter subroutine while the rest of its resources develop and over see video games.

Sometimes I think this man just has automated Twitter responses.

He's got a separate keyboard, with each button(or button combination) hot-keyed to an automated message.

...pressing CTRL-ALT-DELETE brings up the "Do You Eat Shit???" list in all languages, INCLUDING Klingon!

but not Hylian u__u;

It would be amazing if he was actually being truthful and we got Okami 2 and REmake 2 next week and that, somehow, he was actually involved.

Wishful thinking.

Whst's the chance of Zombi U 2 appearing at E3? Or at least a teaser?

0%

I'm basing this on the devs of ZombiU stating they are building a prototype... Prototype isn't going to be shown to the public, its strictly to pitch an idea to their Publisher, Ubisoft... If the suits like the idea, they will greenlight it.. I'd like some confirmation on sales, but isn't ZombiU up over 400k now?

If those are the sales of ZombiU, then Ubisoft made a killing on this game considering the small install base and the skeleton crew that threw it all together, so there is probably a good chance of a sequel getting greenlit... perhaps even a port to other platforms.

Keeping my fingers crossed because its the sequel I'm most looking forward to. ZombiU was fantastic, I can only imagine how much better it could be with some polish and not being rushed to meet a console launch deadline (I'm on my 2nd playthrough, on survival mode, and its even more intense then a normal playthrough, with knowing all the jumps scares)

Eh. Trying to imagine what kind of development structure they have over there at Nintendo and how much any one person is responsible for what does and does not change kind of a GAF hobby that really is is based off of very little. Nintendo turns over the Zelda staff all the time. They get "new blood" in on the games all the time. As for the very top. Does keeping Eiji on Zelda keep it from being an open world game? Does it keep it from having difficulty options or voice acting? If getting rid of Eiji is just a blanket term for "change things" then ya we read you guys loud and clear. If you actually think any meaningful changes will be made just because he is gone, that assumption is just a lot of hot air.

That's certainly a consideration, but if Ubisoft believes that Nintendo is able to grow the install base to a little under 10 million by next fiscal year, having a current attach rate of 10% (400,000 out of 4 million Wii U owners at the moment) is pretty dang good for current Wii U owners and speaks to the fact that ZombiU can be a viable smaller franchise in their stable. Can't just release Far Cry, AC, and Just Dance every year.

Hopefully the celestial brush would work better on Wii U's gamepad than with Wii Remote.

Anyway since we may have to wait for a long time until next Zelda game releases, a new Okami would be great!

Considering we got Killer Freaks gameplay when it was, at the time, little more than a pitch alongside a fancy, high quality CG trailer, I'd say it's more than possible.

Really, it's startling that ZombiU was pieced together so quickly from such a radically different game while still managing to look and play pretty darn well.

beautiful

I'm so torn over that tech demo. It's gorgeous and I would love to play a Zelda game which looks like that, but at the same time it's basically the TP art style, and I don't want them to stop changing the look up with every series entry.

Nintendo is silly if they choose an art style that's not approximately an HD twilight princess. There are many who think of that type of zelda as the definition of the franchise, and think of the alternatives as temporary distractions. They can't afford to fuck around with something with lower sales potential.

Btw, I remember a recent Kamiya tweet telling that he's playable on Bayonetta 2. That'd be awesome, especially if the game had twitter simulation side missions...

Anyway since we may have to wait for a long time until next Zelda game releases, a new Okami would be great!

Which makes it even worse that Capcom didn't bring Okami HD to the Wii U as an eShop launch game (hell, or even a retail disc!)

The Aonuma hate is ridiculous.

People have to direct their frustrations at someone. :)

(Maybe old news, I'm not sure, but:)

I've got some details regarding Nintendo "presence" this E3 coming from the Spanish Official Nintendo Magazine:

"Event: E3 2013

"Aren't you curious about what is Nintendo preparing for this E3?
They call it "Wii U Software Showcase" and it would take place just after opening the doors of E3, June 11th at 10.30am. The first half hour will be a conference starred by Shigeru Miyamoto and Reggie Fils-Aime and after that, there will be a Q&A turn and a hands-on on the games that are presented."

Also, in the front cover, it says "Mario is back: 4 New Mario Games":

for what it matters, I really like him and his games. MM, WW, TP, SS but also the DS titles.
Every game had flaws, but every game enterneined me with pleasure.

Btw, about Zombi: no way in hell they'll show the sequel at E3, considering how early in development is the prototype. We don't even know if there will actually be a real game, out of that pitch. But, OMG, I'd LOVE a Zombi U2.
