You are cracking me up. I don't see much questioning the perfect reviews, but an 8 will bother some people. It's a review, an opinion, they will be different.
Honestly I don't wear the tinfoil hats and assume lower reviews are put out to stir up the fanboys, but that would be funny if that were really the case.

Exactly, a few people get upset ( with one not being serious), and a narrative gets written about most of the posters in the thread being upset.
Your joking right? Right?! If so that would destroy most if not all their credibility for me. Especially considering how poorly Remember Me has been received recently.
I wholly disagree. Why do we have so many review sites?
I love that games criticism has (slowly) moved away from just reviewing consumer products to critiquing entertainment.

Do you not feel joy of a well-placed headshot? The thrill of a great set piece? The suspense of a stealth sequence? Those are all emotional responses...

The Polygon score is probably more about Polygon making a name for themselves as a 'legit' reviewing site, and not dishing out 10s when most others do.
That's fine, but I wouldn't put much weight into it. Their complaints however, may be more significant to some gamers than others - I for one, don't want waves of enemies like Uncharted had, so we'll see.

Forbes is like Roger Ebert of video games. Harsh but fair.
Although for me, 7+ is a must buy while 6 or below is forget about it.
It's rather likely that the people wishing for a wider scoring spread aren't the same people who lose their shit when a highly anticipated game gets a low score. At least, I hope so.
Ideally you'd want both groups as an audience, I guess, so I can see why a site would want to try to please everyone. I wouldn't mind if sites dropped scores altogether (that's Kotaku's stance), but I know that sort of thing pisses off a section of the audience too.

That's all I needed to hear to want this game even more, the game's length. So glad the game is pretty long, I always hated short games because I can usually beat them in a short time. Also it has multiplayer, and if it isn't too bad the trophies might be fun to get to.
Damn, 10/10 from Edge! I am not even reading any of these reviews because I am on blackout but that surprised me.
I don't see why anyone cares about anything that Polygon does, they have proven that they have no credibility or integrity over and over and over again and the site has only been live for a few months. Anyway, they might have some good points and I don't think any game should ever get all perfect scores.

TR was very good, but my biggest complaint was it was a bit too easy. I played it on Hard difficulty straight away.. yet most of my deaths were environmental (whoops, I fell off the cliff)... a few battle sections took a few tries but mostly, and especially at the end, I was disappointed with how easily one could breeze through it.
Anyway, back OT... gonna be a review junkie today for TLOU... AW YEAH

This. Some people have been trying to fan the flames non stop since the thread was made. Many have wanted meltdowns and low scores. Pretty silly how much egging on and exaggerating is taking place.
I'm surprised by Polygon's score not because of the score itself, but because of how different it is from all the other review's I've read.
The negative parts of Phil's review focus mainly around how he expected it to be more than a videogame in terms of mechanics, tech, and felt its where it did come up short hurt his opinion of it more because of how immersive the game is. He didn't like how the combat felt, which is a very personal part to gaming and I think anyone is justified in feeling (I didnt particularly like Bioshock Infinite's feel of combat, but think the game was great). I think that personally a lot of his criticisms, while valid for him, dont hold as much weight for me. The fact that your AI partners can't be seen in a game with stealth is... fantastic, and a necessary evil in my mind. I can't imagine how frustrated I'd be if that constantly got be into combat.
Pretty much all I hope to see from games that I am looking forward to is "CAN it be enjoyed". If the reviews seem to support that its possible, and I already feel some affinity toward the game, then I'll probably like it well enough that its worth a purchase.

Useless discussion. In the end it doesn´t matter. No review will regardless the scale used will tell me if I will like this game.
Good to know that the reviewer liked the game - but why should I care about that?
I just bought Remember me so....
That being said I think everybody should use the 5 point scale so we could get rid of all this nonsense.
Polygon would have given the game 4 (Stars/Points/Doritos/Whatever..) and nobody would get upset.

That proves different strokes for different folks. I played Persona 4 on the PS2 for about 30 minutes some years back and I would probably give that game a 5 based on what I played. It's just not the type game for me and the type of game that I would enjoy.
