Not to say anything about this game, but maybe i'm just cynical but does it feel like certain developers have cracked the whole games reviewing system?

Like some magic sauce that makes your 8-8.5 game to a 10/10 reviewed game.

something about pressing the right buttons for your typical hyperbole spewing reviewer.

hmmmm...

next gen is gonna be interesting.

I think the magic is that some developers have the time, talent and backing to consistently produce really playable, polished games that appeal to a massive number of people. Studios like Naughty Dog, EAD, Valve, Rockstar etc are all in a privileged position.

Tom is a pretty good reviewer, the only one I really took issue with was his Skyward Sword review.

But hey, can't be perfect. ;)

Mc Shea is a great reviewer. In all honesty his scores rarely mean something. He writes really great reviews and details how he feels about the game and analyzes why it's good or bad.

Man... these reviews with the high chance of ND having a big PS4 reveal in a few days... those guys have to be on a high like no other.

This congregate list screams "payola."

Does it? To me, it screams, "Hype, developer pedigree, high production values and polish levels, goodwill/eagerness/excitement on the part of the reviewers, actual excellence on the part of the games, and the unique experience of playing a game in isolation from the masses combine to result in review scores potentially higher than equilibrium reception."

I love me a good anger baiting review, but I got to the end of that polygon review and I thought "What made this bad?" The reviewers point is that all this tension, and bleakness doesn't go anywhere, or serve a higher purpose, but then the review just ends without extrapolating on that. Does the plot abruptly end? Does the plot take a turn undermining the gameplay? Does it go to a natural conclusion, but the author doesn't like the conclusion?

Saying "Hey, making me feel awful for the sake showing me you can" is pretty damning criticism, but you can't let something like that just hang out there.

So who wants to lend me a PS3 so I can play this, the reviews sound great.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
People have moved on from polygon but now the other side of people havnt stopped yet it seems.

People get excited about seeing a game getting good scores, thats normal even though people set themselves up for disappointment in the recent past.

Really looking forward to playing this. No time at the moment, but one of these days, I will open that case and insert the disc into the PS3. Even with all this praise, I don't see it dethroning Uncharted 2 for me. Cthulhu help me if it does. I will not be able to cope with the amazing.

Regardless, ND has proven themselves over and over now. Their PS4 outing will also be incredible, I'm sure.

Well reviewers are human too. Just like us they have biases. I think brands and comfort play a role in effecting scores. Its impissible to not let a brand like ND or Rockstar effect your reception to a game.

Who here really allows metacritic decide what the best games are?

Also the whole Arkham series is overrated. At least fortune was kind enough to put the better of the two on top.

EDIT: A game where people fall in love with combat that hides it QTE-like nature with flashy dance moves.

94 on 360 is way too high.

The PC version at 91 is starting to get closer to the truth...

It really should be reveresed with Arkham Aslyum.

At least in my opinion.

Anywho, just absolutely blown away by the praise for The Last Of Us. Truly incredible response...

Naughty Dog should be beaming with pride, not just because they shipped The Last Of Us. But because they delivered two separate IP's in one generation met with universal acclaim. That's something that is so rarely done, it's incredible that they pulled that off.

lol not buying 75/100 garbage

</TrollEmulation> Ordered Survival Edition. Planning how to get out of work and family duties to play...

Reminder to any junior that decides to suicide spoiler this game, brush up on Taken cause I'm gonna Liam Neeson your ass.

Cheers!

Spot on.

I love what I'm reading about the AI in some of these reviews. FUCKING FINALLY SOMEONE IMPROVED AI. I would have paid big dollas for this to have released on the 7th.

The craziest thing I've seen in this entire thread so far is that Batman: Arkham City has a 96 on Metacritic.

MW2 man, 94 percentile. Is this real life.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
So thuway, where is the review with the "This might top God of War 3's bombastic intro." quote??

The folks I know playing it have explicit NDAs preventing them from talking about certain portions of the game. There are some strong moments in the narrative they aren't allowed to show or talk about whatsoever. Naughty Dog does not want an Uncharted 3 scenario where you put the puzzle together because of all the preview footage. Tomorrow, however, get your hat ready for - "This might top God of War 3's bombastic intro."

Scores look incredible. Not gonna read any reviews though. So damn excited. Glad I pre-ordered the Survival Edition a couple weeks ago. That thing looks to be out of stock everywhere.
