IDK about you but running a game at 1080p instantly makes a game more beautiful to me because of the amazing IQ.
I agree. Especially if the Xbone is the lead platform developers choose.

Dat 2560x1440 feel on PC. 720p is so 2006.
Jaggies can appear even at 1080p though. There is also more to graphics than just the resolution. Texture quality is one of the things we will see being improved for example. Higher polygon count on the 3D models as well.If a game is running at 720p it better have shit loads of AA to compensate. Otherwise why upgrade your console at all? Your games will look pretty much the same at that point.
Horizon dropped to 30FPS.
I think this is a pretty legitimate issue, not a nitpick. People have been running games at 1080p for years on PC. To spend another generation of consoles still with some 720p titles (I assume some titles will run at 1080p) is highly disappointing and raises serious questions for me as to the architecture and value of the device. My goodness people complain about everything. It would be distracting to obsess and nit picky over games instead of enjoying them. Will the One and PS4 before beastly machines? No, will they both be significant upgrades on their predecessors? Yes Will they offer great looking and playing games? Yes

edit:
also, I personally don't think there is all that much difference between 720 and 1080
Sure, on PC monitors.
But considering that HDTV adoption is still ongoing, and many still lack 1080p devices, it's not as much as a necessity for video game consoles.

Depends on the screen being native 720 or 1080 in my experience.open world

I'm surprised that since they have Forza 4 running at 720p 60fps on 360, that they wont be able to do Forza 5 at 1080p 60fps on the new Xbox.

If there is one next gen game I have full confidence in it is Forza 5 being that Horizon looked so damn amazing. One the best looking console games.

Good luck admiring the texture quality of a game when it's a blurry mess at 720p.
Ps4 really is like ssj4, it's power is growing everyday.
60 fps > 1080p
60 fps > 1080p
1080P 60FPS >> 720P 60FPS
He doesn't say fm5 won't be 1080p, he just said Microsoft doesn't have requirements as far as resolution or fps go.
I expect a lot of games to be sub 1080p to approach ps4's in bullshots, though.
1080P 60FPS >> 720P 60FPS
Pretty much every HDTV is 1080p these days.

I only have a 720p HDTV. I wish games would give me the option to run at native 720p at 60 fps.
Then you'd have probably no better than Forza 4 visuals.
lol is this real?
Thats a bullshot
Already making development "trade-offs".
Microsoft fucked up.
How close are you guys sitting to your displays that 720p looks like a "blurry mess"?
Yeah if you hate image quality.
Because a 720p image on a 1080p display is always going to be a blurry mess, no matter how many graphical effects you throw at it.
"Forza 5 runs at 60 frames per second, but other people will make different trade-offs. I think it's important - maybe because I'm a studio guy - that you give freedom to the creator because today, through lighting techniques and post effects, resolution is not the thing that maximises beauty."
Spencer concluded: "Some of the most beautiful games of this generation are not dictated by how many pixels they're pushing to the screen. Motion blur, antialiasing, lighting: all of these things come into play. We just give developers the tools and let them make the right creative decisions."
There were games that shipped on 360 that were less than 720p," said Spencer. "It's important we give creators the best tools to create the best experience possible and I don't think that platform holders can dictate what the internal frame buffer size should be.
