But it's not four days. It's five days. 120+ hours.

Oh God, the waiting!

If most of the people who bought KIU felt compelled to buy it again, they'd probably make more money than they did the first time since the initial cost of development (prototyping, design, etc) won't be as high. They also won't have to bundle in a plastic stand with each copy this time. And they'd probably get a number of new sales from gamers who were intrigued but turned off or scared away by word of the polarizing controls. A WiiU game would solve it. And really, the sheer spectacle and scale of some KIU moments really calls out for the TV. It could be really impressive, and not just "for a port."

Herea re the big assumptions. Uprising's models look really rough. The game looks great because it's constantly in motion, but you're offering people a game that they already turned down and probably won't look as good as a ground-up game.

Sure, controls fix the problem the original had, but the original release has come and gone. Hell, are there any HD remakes that have outsold the original?

Now, don't get me wrong. If Uprising U was announced I'd need a chisel to get my hands out of my pants. I'm just not convinced it's a good idea from a business perspective.

Personally, I'm way faster with pointer controls on CoD than I am with stylus on KI:U. Just make it so when you're at the edge of the screen, you turn really fast.

Ah, I guess that's fair. Admittedly I'm probably pretty biased since I beat all the story chapters on 9.0, I can't imagine trying it again with different control scheme. I'd still buy the shit out of a Wii U version regardless

I'd have to imagine that if they tasked a set of code monkeys with the grunt work of overhauling KIU's models, it'd still cost far less, and take far less time, than the original game's development. I don't think that's too outlandish an assumption.

You might be right about its sales prospects, though. I guess its success would depend on a combination of the DKCR3D effect -- "Oh, that title everyone raved about but I couldn't play due to the controls now plays the way I want!" -- and just the sheer spectacle of seeing Ch. 11 in HD.

Oh, I'm sure it will cost less, I kinda mispoke there. But that doesn't mean it will cost so much less as to be worth it. Slapping in HD textures won't make the game much more impressive for the audience. "Why does Yakuza 1+2 HD look like a Gamecube game?" or whatnot.

And you don't think it'll take past the first third of the game to impress? Disgusting!

A remake of KIU would probably be more profitable than most of their all-original games that don't have "Mario," "Zelda" or "Pokémon" in the title. The bulk of the design cost is out of the way, the new controls and console power would make it attractive, and all that recent marketing might would give it a brand equity baseline to build off of.

Yea I can see that happening. With the amount of marketing they pushed out, I think a lot of people would recognize Pitt and all the advertising assets they got out there - even on a subconscious level. Couple that with 'next gen', 'HD', or even 'Wii U' (even, haha) once they get that brand chugging along after this new beginning for the console; that's money in the bank I think. The more they push, the more Kid Icarus could become something that garners some mainstream recognition. Whether one knows the exact figures or not, it was clearly a lot of money they put into the media around KIU. It'd be a waste to let it go on one underselling game. Ba bam

Though conversely KI is way more Japanese friendly. How did it sell there? If it was still underwhelming (being a Nintendo IP on a Nintendo handheld in the gaming handheld capital of the world), then it's certainly not gonna sell on consoles there. And in terms of the Western world, most people are gonna see that game being in the same vein as Pokemon, and other 'childish' demographicky games. Can't see it performing on consoles actually xD Although, Nintendo fans will like that stuff... I don't know... so confusing! I can definitely see Iwata and the gang sitting around a table having no idea what to do, haha!

They had three major Japanese animation studios produce anime shorts, 400+ trading cards created, a plastic stand bundled in with each copy of the game, and for the first time (that I'm aware of) in America, we got the special portrait cases, something Japan had long enjoyed but NOA hasn't done for us until KIU (and never again since).

They were throwing money at KIU like... like...

sheik-o.gif

And they're gonnna leave it all at one game? C'mon, Ninty, go the extra mile -- HD!

EDIT: Oh, and don't forget that amazing CGI commercial spot -- that probably cost some moolah.

Yeah, I think I saw more KI:U marketing material than I have for any Nintendo game, ever...I saw commercials during South Park, hah.

Oh, the Zone of the Enders/Metal Gear Solid 2 effect

Hell, it helped ZOE sell so well we got the ridiculously awesome ZOE2. Though I did play the MGS2 demo more than I've ever played ZOE
and I'm positive I'm not the only one
.

yea it's hard to believe they would stop at one game. If sakurai isn't down, I'm pretty sure Nintendo will just hand it off to someone else.

It's almost like Nintendo was trying to squeeze in all the marketing in one game that they would normally spread out over the course of decades for multiple installments, lol.

So either Nintendo sees some long-term potential, or this is just Iwata being smitten with his bishie Sakurai.

I think it's kind of up in the air atm, especially because Nintendo is the kind of company who would squander all that advertising money - they can be the definition of 'illogical' sometimes. In fact, maybe an HD re-release of KI:U on Wii U would be the perfect thing to test the waters... Though an HD re-release of a game that fresh could likely not sell super well. Nintendo is the company who wouldn't grasp that, I think. They'd think 'pack it up, Kid Icarus-the-franchise isn't viable financially'; ignorant of the fact that a brand new game in the series built ground-up for Wii U will outsell it easily. (A remake of an established franchise's earlier entry could outsell it's respective original, but as for KI:U - basically the first in the series? Not so certain.)

By far the most rational explanation.

While we're in fantasy land. I feel like Xenoblade's world was perfect for Pokemon. Imagine a Pokemon action RPG spinoff where you can pick out the Pokemon you want roaming the landscape. Or a semi-open world Pokemon Snap.

I had a pretty bad day today. Thanks for being fun NintenGAF. :)

I just want Palutena to sing to me out of my GamePad.

"You gotta stay upbeat, upbeat, upbeat!"

"Or you'll be dead meat, dead meat, dead meat!"

What?!? Kid Icarus Uprising HD?
No,no,no,NO!

If anything, it's obvious we all want Kid Icarus: Uprising 2, with Pit & company crossing over with Gurren Lagann universe, since the enemies will come from there, and new sections inspired to ZOE where you drive the fuc*ing Gurren Lagann.

Last year best thread needs to be resurrected.

Who will launch the E3 2013 Nintendo Crates Thread ft. The Nintendo E3 Bear ?

It's starting ...

That sounds awesome (open-world Pokémon Sap). And sorry to hear today was rough for you. :-\

Chin up! :)

LIGHT THE SCRAFTYDEVIL SIGNAL.

Kid icarus U means no starfox.

If they would like to create a new kid icarus, i hope that they going to make it a different game than the one of 3ds. Kid icarus should be a huge world with template and backtracking.

Don't get me wrong, i do love the 3ds version. But was not something that i was hoping to be so...

I'm sure there's plenty of room to take both franchises to different directions and allow them to co-exist if that's what Nintendo wants. Give StarFox to Platinum or something.

Bayonetta's definitely in that Smash crate. She's going to burst out and make some inappropriate pun involving the word "box," and then the SSB4 trailer will end and Iwata will look all uncomfortable, while Reggie looks on all:

Uggggh the U Pad is perfect for a Pokemon Snap sequel, come on Nintendo wtf.

PS nobody's allowed to be sad during Nintendo Pre-E3 Hype Season.

Leading up to Brawl, crazy people such as myself saw Ridley in the clouds in Brawl's Subspace Emissary opening. We thought it hinted at Ridley being a newcomer.

:(

In one of the deleted scenes, Ridley appears to Samus in the clouds and tells her to take her place in the circle of life. And they totally spell SEX if you look close enough.

I'd rather original games than HD remakes at this point. While I acknowledge that Nintendo does create new IPs, I think I want more on the level of Sony. Just look at their announced titles (from their Financial Results Briefing):

3DS
Tomodachi Collection
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Mario Golf: World Tour
Pokémon X
Pokémon Y

Mario Party (temp.)
The Legend of Zelda (temp.)
Super Smash Bros. (temp.)
Yoshi's Island (temp.)

Wii U
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
Wii Fit U
Wii Party (temp.)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Yarn Yoshi (temp.)
SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI X FIRE EMBLEM (temp.)
Super Smash Bros. (temp.)
The Legend of Zelda (temp.)

X
Mario Kart (temp.)
3D Mario (temp.)

All of the bolded titles are either sequels in a series or sequels. I really don't like how the Yoshi and Zelda 3DS titles seem to be banking on nostalgia to garner sales. I know the mechanics will likely be different, but I absolutely believe that they were conceived to piggyback on the success and legacy of their precursors. A Link to the Past 2 is using the same world from the original. Yarn Yoshi is using the same art style as Kirby's Epic Yarn, which isn't even part of the same series. It's as if they just slapped in Yoshi and called it a new game. However, there may be more to A Link to the Past 2, and the 3D-ish segments of Yarn Yoshi do make me hopeful. It just seems a little lazy.

I know these games will be fantastic, but I'm ready for new, strong IPs that don't have to be bound in the same universe. I know to some people, it's okay to change ideas and keep the same characters, but I still think new ideas are limited by adhering to a franchise. I know people still want things like F-Zero, Star Fox, and Metroid, but I'm ready for a new IP to join Nintendo's stable of franchises.

I want mah Widwee. :(

*sucks his thumb*

I think his sideB should be context-sensitive.
For instance using it on Samus causes her to break down in a traumatic stressed little pile.
Of secrets and unapproved lava suits

The non-bolded are based off of existing IPs as well xD

Ehi, now I remember another strange thing: looking closely to the spaceship used by Bowser and Ganondorf, you can perfectly see in one its windows people having sex.
