TitanFall (EA/Respawn, PC/XB1/360, Spring 2014, Game Informer Leak, All Info In OP)

Except Respawn made these comments and your console crusading is getting seriously old.

None of the stuff they mentioned is using the infinite power of the cloud because it's PR BS. Although dedicated servers are friggin awesome.

I'm starting to think next gens online communities will be far more divided than this gen. I think the COD/BF crowd is going to get drawn to their respective consoles exclusives moreso than before. KZ and planetside for sony and this game and whatever else they reveal for xbones .

Plus there may be a whole new genre in waiting this gen to capture the online gamers hearts (I'm looking at you racing games).

Going to be a real interesting generation that I think some big names will not survive.

Seems most info is being coverd, but one nugget I did not see in the OP yet:

"As you would expect from a studio featuring more than 40 former Call of Duty designers, Respawn has big plans for the progression system in Titanfall. Though it would'nt go into detail, the studio promises a robust system filled with unlocks for both your pilot and titan."

"In addition to the campaign multiplayer, Titanfall has a more traditional multiplayer mode, as well as a one-player mode the studio isn't ready to talk about yet"

So CoD?

Yeah, Titan AI might be tricky but could happen, Other NPCs 100%.

See this is where cloud computing may make huge innovations. Scores more of more NPC AI interactions with the world making it more life like, then just load the necessary data that is in LOS range. You could do things like a "simulated" D-Day with the cloud controlling non-player centric interaction or Skyrim like game with much more living world.

I agree with you, but unfortunately a lot of people here don't even know or understand what cloud computing is and just like to go around xbox topics spamming "lol cloud hur hur"

reading the op it sounds like they are hinting that this maybe a timed exclusive and not an outright xbox only for life product.

I could have sworn that I was dreaming of this yesterday. I always forget what I dream of...
Anyway, I hope this will be the last new FPS for MS. Titanfall sounds really good after all but MS will need to prove that it still has that diversity of exclusives from its original Xbox days.

Black Tusks Xbox1 exclusive is a FPS too

GI: "What XBox One lacks in RAM, it potentially makes up for in cloud computing." Talks about how the game will have unlimited dedicated servers for the game, offloading "a few dozen AI" and physics, says the game would be impossible without the cloud and wouldn't have attempted it. Still dealing with unfinished hardware and software, so it's "still a little rough going at times."

Developers must think none of us will see through thiis bullshit. This has got to stop.

Source engine? Gameplay similar to L4D?

Could it be possible that Valve is more involved in this than GI would have us believe?

- Xbox One, PC
- Xbox 360 version developed by someone else
- Planned to target current gen, but realized that they couldn't run it
- Started to look into next gen and the answer they got from Microsoft intrigued them
- They said they needed to focus on fewer hardware. In the future they are open to more. They don't specify if it would this project or another.
- Plan to use Microsoft's Cloud for dedicated servers and physics and AI calculations
- Spring 2014 Release Date
- To my eyes it looks visually very nice.
- First person shooter
- "Mech" and ground combat
- "Mech's" are called Titans.
- They want these Titans to feel fast. They can dodge etc.
- If you don't want to pilot the Titan you can have it follow you, killing people as it goes along.
- Player characters are called Pilots
- They are extremely agile. Can run on walls, multiple jumps.
- They can take down Titans. Jumping on them and shooting the "brain".
- You need to be cunning as a pilot. "Hit and fade" tactics is the term the game director uses.
- Pilots come equipped with a variety of weapons. Pistol, Assault Rifle, Anti-Titan Rocket Launcher, data knife used to hack AI characters into joining you.
- There are AI enemies on the maps.
- You survive longer than in COD. Making it more welcoming to newcomers.
- Source Engine. Building new engine = too much time.
- Source gives them 60 fps
- Rewrote aspects of it for next gen
- Article talks about the process of forming the team, being fired, prototyping ideas etc. I recommend reading it.
- Going for a District 9 or Blade Runner vibe.
- Integrate memorable single player moments into a multiplayer game.
- Storytelling style will be more Left 4 Dead.
- Humans segregated between Earth and frontier planets. Corporation trying to take the resources of these frontier people.

Thanks, Cartman. Great info/summary. Sounds HOT!

The only interesting part about this is the fact it uses Source and it's an EA joint. Also 'lol' at cloud computing.

Also they couldn't run source on current gen what?

Game sounds interesting, can't wait to see screens/video for it. Definitely a good pick up for Microsoft.

MORE STUFF

A lot of the article has to do with Respawn's origins, actually.

So here's the exclusivity mention: They thought working on PS4, Xbox One and PC would prove too difficult for a small team, so they decided to focus on one console instead of two. (er...). "Not to say we won't [go multiplatform] in the future, but for our first game we wanted to focus on making the best game we could."

I just cannot believe this to be true...I hate it when devs try to justify moneyhatting with tech speak. Isn't the PS4 supposed to make porting from PC and XB1 easier?

Just say we're partnering with Microsoft (or something along those lines).

I need screenshots to be wowed by "teh infinite power of the cloud"

The whole mech thing turns me off. As a standalone, dedicated genre, mech games can be amazing but very few have interested me when combining infantry and other types of combat. Are there other vehicles air/ground vehicles in the game?

You would think so. I mean it's current version is pretty dated for current gen consoles and this is for next gen so I would think they'd have a newer build.

I'm assuming they're using Source with a custom or rebuilt graphics renderer. I'm also assuming that they've added a non-BSP map system since BSP files are pretty garbage if you're doing giant maps. If they've gone to these lengths to customize Source and make it like every other modern engine, they probably should have used one of them.

Each level has playable prologues and epilogues.

"In one match we watched, players started on a spaceship in orbit and descended to the ground to start the assault. At the end of the match players were instructed to move to the extraction point. Making it back in one piece results in a huge XP reward."

This thread is moving waaaay to fast so I'll ask again.

Does it say anything cool about NFS: Rivals?

Seems like no real other megaton info. Games here:

Well they're not going to say "You see Microsoft walked up with a giant bag of cash and is paying the boatload for the servers, so we're not releasing a PS4 build for 12 months." :P

Technically Respawn benefits from the game selling on Origin since if EA is getting 95% of the revenue instead of 70%, their royalties will be higher.

Except the fact that this is not Battlefield, a game that WILL sell. This is a game that needs as much exposure as possible.

So since this game supposedly uses "cloud," I assume that means you'll have to be online at all times to play? (I didn't get the impression this is purely a multiplayer game) Very curious to see how this stuff shakes out for people without fast internment connections.

You would think so. I mean it's current version is pretty dated for current gen consoles and this is for next gen so I would think they'd have a newer build.

I would like to think they were able to modify it to next generation needs. Respawn didn't want to start from scratch, so I they chose Source as a foundation. Who knows what crazy things they've done to it.

Personally I really like the look of the graphics.

It's not like super mind blowing, but imagine Half-Life 2 if it was made on technology appropriate for this decade.

This looks like your standard "transition" phase game to me. Plus since the 360 portion is being "farmed" out, who knows how it will look or run...

X1 and PC may be the "full" experience in the end.

Respawn owns TitanFall, they control the IP, so it's possible it'll be on Steam. We have no idea what is in the contract between EA and Respawn, so it's all speculation at this point. But I'd say Respawn doesn't care about Origin, they care about money and they want as much people as possible to play their game.
