TitanFall (EA/Respawn, PC/XB1/360, Spring 2014, Game Informer Leak, All Info In OP)

Will they? I have no idea and I'm not going to pretend I'm at all versed in the ways of cloud computing. I'd just like some answers from MS, but it seems that when an actual developer who is working on both platforms makes a comment about it, it is immediately dismissed as bullshit... so I'm not quite sure what to believe, I'll take the wait-and-see approach.

I can give you a video of Ted Price talking about the power of the Cell SPUs in making Resistance 1080P. Of course they didn't really touch the SPUs and the game was not 1080P. But when you get in bed with the big boys, you have to talk up the stuff the makes them different. MS has the "cloud" and Kinect. You will see a lot of both from anyone working with MS.

Edit: Found it. I love how they look like they are reading a script written by Sony :)

It's not the timed exclusivity that bothers me (and it is just timed), it's the absolute contradictory and faux tech bullshit used to justify it.

all the cloud talk sounds like it wont come to the ps4. atleast their first game.

Now im wondering will microsoft bites the cost for offering cloud resources to devs so its free for devs to use. Or do devs or publishers have to hire the clouds resources. Because if a pub/dev has to hire you can bet they wont be running longer then 4 years or so.
Microsoft has the resources to do this for free. With sony i dont think they have the hardware to offer this for free so devs have to make their own or hire from gaikai dedicated servers.

Well on the one hand MS/EA probably wont go scorched earth on GI because its a pretty good vessel to promote your game since its shoved down the throats to whoever shops at Gamestop.

But he is going to have to fire someone because this is a HUGE fuck up.

Sounds like people at GI were going to have an early weekend and someone maybe sent things a bit too early.

Don't even want to imagine the calls and emails his probably received already.

Hopefully Respawn is smart enough and talk to EA to put the PC version on other places outside of Origin.

Origin works great and the client is super sleek and lightweight. What is the big deal...

"I want to keep all my games on one service" is the excuse people use. So I'm guessing you don't play LoL or any Blizzard games

I would not get upset by that list. Do magazines ever get a ton of E3 stuff before it's actually announced?

Gameinformer usually did yeah, that's why the covers are actually pushed back to the day of conferences, this one was supposed to be revealed on Monday for example.

Great point. Starhawk failed to get that balanced. You want strategy and preparedness or pure numbers to be able to overwhelm a mech -- yet you want that mech to be powerful enough to wipe out normal human enemies. It's incredibly difficult to get that right and I hope they do.

They also need to have mechs as a readily available option to everyone. It can't be like Battlefield where on bigger maps you might never get to use a tank despite being an awesome tank driver because they're quantity limited and randoms keep grabbing them.

So if everyone can use a mech you can't assume pure numbers will let pilots be a viable solution to kill one.

Some of the talk from the article makes it sound like mechs are MMO equivalent tanks and pilots are glass cannons, talking about how pilots can kill multiple targets and mechs can deflect bullets. That could be an interesting approach to take and would potentially make balancing a bit easier, but we saw with Marvel V. Capcom what happens if you don't nail the balance on a glass cannon just right (Phoenix in every team until UMVC debuff).

I've come to accept and deal with origin and it isn't the worst. hardly ideal but whatever. So I gotta click two more times to launch a game - fuck it.

Is every game going to be the same shit next gen? This just sounds like COD. So does every other game announced. Theres COD in space, COD dogs, COD mechs, am I missing another one?

Doesn't really sound like COD to me. I mean your characters can run on walls, double jump, pilot mechs, there are AI on the maps etc. Sure it's a FPS, but I wouldn't call it just COD with mechs.

There's really two routes to go: "We're not ready to talk about that right now/ we're only focusing on the consoles we've announced" or "THANK GOD FOR THE CLOUDS CAUSE THIS SOURCE ENGINE IS MAXING OUT ALL DAT POWER!"

Although I agree to some degree - what are they supposed to say? "Yes we took moneyhats from MS in order to make the PS4 look bad"?

If it's coming to PC too does that mean Microsoft are allowing PC games to access their Azure cloud computing stuff or are Respawn using another cloud infrastructure (or MS' commercial Azure cloud stuff). It would be good if PC games had access to Microsoft's cloud stuff too.

As far as I am aware the Source engine isn't a DX11 engine so hopefully they are adding modifying it to use some of the nice new features (and some of the quicker operations/functions/methods) of DX11.

Heck its coming to 360, does it use the cloud too?

People have established their friends lists, communities and game list on Steam already and don't want to re-do it for another service. Same as how people stuck with 360 this gen because everyone "was already on Xbox Live."

They seem to suggest just this game with the option of multi in the future.

In all honesty though will Titanfall penetrate the market, it's already pretty bloated with COD, Battlefield as multi, Destiny soon to join them and exclusive shooters like Halo and Killzone on both Xbox and PS, not to mention Free Planetside 2 on PS4 - is there really room for another multiplayer shooter (online or not)?

The devs behind this game usually take a while before thier hit a stride. COd didn't become huge until the 4th game. Which is why im wondering if MS will buy up the sequels as well.

Killzone won't get anywhere near this game, Halo wint launch until 2015 and Titanfall is launching in the spring which combined with the marketing MS will throw at it means it could be huge.

The PC wont be using or have access to the cloud.

Can always turn down other settings if the system is too taxed.

You know the cloud is complete bullshit right? There is no way the latency would allow them to do AI calculations. .

MMOs have been using what is basically "cloud processing" for over a decade to run AI calculations just fine. And of course if you lose your connection look what happens. If the game says "online only" then so be it. Don't like it, then you don't have to buy it.

PC will be "online only" too but most likely on EA's dedicated servers instead.

sorry but what does that highlighted sentence mean..?

I don't think Killzone is it's target competition. That would be Planetside 2, which is already out on PC and will almost definitely be a more polished, day one ready product as a result on PS4.

TitanFall will live and die by how unique and enjoyable the mech v. pilot dynamic really is.

I'm not looking to invalidate you in some way that is rude but you do realize with more powerful HW that it's all the same right?

And so people don't forget, you can bet PS4 will be using some of the same techniques but at this point we all know it's more powerful than the Xbone.

That's about as rationally as I can take this at this point.

TitanFall will be on PC. No cloud required there.

possibly, but I'd assume online only for PC and it may use servers for the AI and physics as the console game does to give people with lesser hardware the same experience

I can only imagine how pissed Reiner is right now.
Holy cow.

What?

This game sounds nothing like CoD. The only thing it has in common is being an first person shooter that runs at 60fps. CoD doesn't have mech combat or wall running or any of that other stuff.

PCs can offload Physics to the GPU/CPU if you have an SLI setup or GPU+on-boardVideo.

Do we even know if there's a difference between "Azure cloud computing stuff" and "MS' commercial Azure cloud stuff"? If so, what is the actual difference? People assume MS is offering them to devs for free and/or building a robust API to make it easier for devs to harness it for real-time games, which I don't think is entirely unrealistic, but I haven't seen MS actually give any meaningful details.

I told my 50 year old co worker about the cloud, he makes workforce management software, he looked at me like i was retarded and told me servers have been around for decades and the cloud has always been a marketing gimmick.

I was all, but but but, better AI and physics!!!! : (

I'm trying nothing. It's interesting to me that developer with 60 fps intention goes to weaker platform. And interesting that developer with full access to most powerful platform goes to 30 fps for better graphics. Games sold through screenshots and trailers at 30 fps. But you can still do bullshots.

Guerilla and I'm assuming Evolution Studios were developing on PS4 dev kits with only 4GB of RAM, who knows what changes they may have made if they were given 8GB of GDDR5.

Reading the article, the screenshots look OK; it doesn't look much better than CoD: Ghosts does, but the art style is a good deal more interesting. With all the acrobatic stuff that they're doing with the gameplay, it should look pretty nice in motion.
