Sakurai confirms Smash trailer at E3 direct!

Why would you wear a military suit and a giant suit of armor.

Think about what you just said.

Why would you take off your giant suit of armour with effectively artillery capabilities and incredible movement capabilities alongside the ability to withstand lava for a fair few minutes in the first place?

Remove tripping, and nerf Pit/Metaknight flight. I mean for god's sake you nerfed Peach's glide and she didn't even have anything! Pit and Metaknight were legit on their own, but that runaway ability was stupid. Pit could fall offscreen and climb to the top of the stage and Metaknight could indefinitely fly.

Also make it so smash balls only appear on you last stock or on the last 30 seconds with only one a match. I honestly hate smashes completely but thats the easiest nerf I can think of for them while still giving casuals the thrill of the hunt and of comeback chances.

Also include Dark Samus and give her the speed of Melee Samus.

Why would you take off your giant suit of armour with effectively artillery capabilities and incredible movements capabilities alongside the ability to withstand lava for a fair few minutes in the first place?

Because she used up all the energy in that armor to do something, and now instead of sitting there like a rock, she takes it off. Where her military training would go to good use.

I feel that making Samus be a 'hot anime babe' under the suit completely undermines her character. It's not about move sets, or how fun she is to play, I just dislike how they took one of the better examples of a strong, female character in video games and turned her into a hot blonde prancing around in a skintight suit.
What else would you wear under powered armor? Baggy pants and a hoodie? The skintight suit might be sexy, but it makes perfect sense in context, as it's pretty much the most viable clothing for that purpose. Much more so than the bikinis she used to wear in older games.

Weakest from a creative standpoint, or in general? Cause I'm sure Ganondorf was worse than her. Ganondorf should be able to switch between hand to hand and sword combat this time around. Enough trolling Sakurai.

I said weakest, not worst. Ganondorf is much, much stronger than her, but he's still the absolute worst character in the game.

Samus' moves don't reliably kill till like 190%. 190%. That's just not right.

EDIT: For comparison's sake, Zero Suit Samus can easily kill around the 120%-130% range, and has a much better moveset to connect with those kill moves.

Samus is said to be 6'3" and 198 lbs without the armor. If anything, maybe she should be muscular. The Zero Suit hides it though.

Because it's fucking Smash Bros., not Metroid.

Playing as a suitless leotard clad Samus with a lovingly rendered ass is something that goes back all the way to the first Metroid.

it's 10 EST

Edited:

Since people are getting hyping for SSB4 so I'm going to strike it when it's hot. We are 3 days away from deadline, so I would like to urge people to post their prediction before the deadline. GAF's SSB4 Prediction Contest

Oh, 10 A.M.? So Sakurai is referring to Japan time?

That's good too since I believe I won't have to leave till 2 p.m. that day, so I can watch it live. :)

Why can't you wear normal clothes under an armour suit?

Watch any of the Iron Man/Avengers movies, and take a look at what Tony Stark wears. He's never once shown to be wearing a skintight catsuit under the armour, it's always just regular clothes. Hell, he even has a full tuxedo on under the thing at the start of IM2.

Man I have played a legit Samus and that character is one of the best spacing keep away folks in the game. Folks just try to play this game for combos too damn much. In a game based on ring outs someone GOOD at controlling space is a threat.

Plus I main Ganondorf and have seen many a dorfer up there in tournies. Them throw resets and dash grabs are legit. There are worse characters.

you people are seriously nuts. it's goddamn smash bros. and you're worried about the sanctity of the character's portrayal. just get over it.

Can you imagine at the end of the trailer with the Smash Bros title displayed, you hear laughter and a familiar voice "So you kiddies thought the trailer was over?". Then, a hand appears, ripping the logo off
and Hades appears "Im happy to announce that I'll be joining the roster with these pathetic Nintendo characters. I told you I'd be back. And I'm coming for you Pitty Pat! See you soon" Hades salutes and the screen cuts to black with the words "Coming Soon displayed.

But that's just not how it works in the games. The suit is partially organic - see the beginning of Metroid Fusion. When it's bonded to her, if the suit breaks she dies - this happens in every single Metroid game. The only reason you end up in zero suit in the games is when Samus voluntarily takes it off, not because the energy runs out.

Only crazy Metroid fans cry about a suit that covers more skin that what we have seen the character wearing in the endings

No, Ganondorf is awful and is definitely the worst character. Ask anyone who plays competitively.

Samus can be annoying, but she's still bad. Just not Ganondorf bad.

This is coming from a Yoshi main who has played this game competitively for over 3 years, by the way.

A lot of things in Smash don't work exactly how they work in the games they're from, nor should they.

I kind of think that Antony Del Rio's Pit will play a big part in the trailer.

Like, I had this idea that the initial Smash Brothers 4 trailer would start out as a bait-and-switch for a Kid Icarus Uprising Sequel...Pit appears with the K.I. theme playing, teases us with "sorry to keep you waiting", and then flies into a battle with the other Smash Brothers as a remix of Brawl's theme starts up.

Smash balls doesn't need a nerf. If you don't like them, then just turn them off. Leave smash balls alone.

This and Mario 3D are on my radar so time for you to sell me on Wii U Nintendo.

Then again Smash is probably late 2014 title or sumthin.

First Brawl trailer was May 2006 and Brawl released in February 2008... so you're probably right... could even be early 2015 :(
Hoping they make holiday 2014 with the extra output from Namco-Bandai.

This man knows what Smash is about. Smash has always had some of the deepest spacing and footsie meta of any fighting game ever in my opinion.

Speaking of Ganondorf, can he actually use that sword he shows off in Melee & Brawl? He's cool & all, but maybe try to make him less of a slower, heavier Captain Falcon.

I am still of the mind that we might actually get Bayonetta in Smash Bros this time.

It would be interesting to see how they'd handle her move set.

Well, Namco-Bandai is a huge team so I think the production of Smash will be faster than Brawl's.

Also First Brawl trailer were shown when they only worked on the game for 7 months. SSB4 had about 12-14 months in production.

What Tony Stark wears is what actually makes no sense. Lose clothing would crease in tight armor, which would be really uncomfortable and could potentially hinder your movement.

I am completely baffled.

Her Zero suit makes perfect sense in context. What makes you think the way she looks like with the Zero Suit suddenly undermines her whole character? The problem in other M was the way she ACTED not the way she looked.

because she anticipates the possibility of loosing the suit, so if it happens she can retain maximum agility that way.

Yes yes yes! All samurai need to make sure he does now is not waste all that time for adventure mode again and maybe it'll be out even sooner like melee.

I thought someone said that in an interview a while ago.

I mean even if they haven't said that, obviously the 3DS one is going to take less development time.

Every official press release from Nintendo regarding Smash at E3 has only mentioned the Wii U version in the last few months. The only person that even said something vague about the 3DS versino was Sakurai himself, and it was a while back.

Smash balls doesn't need a nerf. If you don't like them, then just turn them off. Leave smash balls alone.

I don't think the basic mechanics of the Smash Balls should be changed. The whole point of adding them like that is to change the flow of the match if they're on. They can add some super move mechanic with smaller attacks separate from them, but the Smash Balls themselves shouldn't change. However, I really hope they balance the Final Smashes better this time. Anyone could see the heavy lack of balance of Brawl's Final Smashes.

Uh yeah Interesting thing.

See, umm in the comics, he does have a suit like zero suit samus under that armor. Because he found it more convient.... also in space, like samus is he wears that kind of hing, because compression. So yeah...Remember he comes comics, comic book characters aren't exactly good references.

Because anyone who read comic books could just say

"well actually"

A lot of things in Smash don't work exactly how they work in the games they're from, nor should they.

This isn't even an argument. You can't just say something and hope people will take it as given without justification. Now, obviously there will occasionally be conflicts between accuracy of representation and enjoy-ability of game-play, but in the case of Zero Suit Samus that just seems facile. In place of Zero Suit Samus, you could have had Ridley, a Phazon-orientated Dark Samus, one of the other bounty hunters from Corruption or Hunters; all with equally if not more enjoy-able movesets and not obviously contravening the subject series. Now, I'm not massively a fan of any of the other hunters, but the fact that Zero Suit Samus made it in over either Ridley or Dark Samus just seems a real shame.

I'm already excited for the new Dojo reveal clips despite not even liking Smash Bros that much.

Hmm, for some reason I thought Brawl had more development time by its reveal than Smash 4 has at this point...glad to know we have a possibility of seeing a more detailed and possibly closer-to-release trailer.

Would love if they do what they did with Melee's reveal and air the Opening Movie. But then again they probably don't wanna spoil all the non-secret newcomers at once.

So happy they confirmed it that they will show a trailer, lets see how this compares to Melee and Brawl E3 trailers!

This will be the first trailer, so no new character reveals.

And really, as long as they add Little Mac and someone from Animal Crossing I am good.

I'm guessing most of you already have Wii U's, but for those who don't, is anyone else here willing to buy one just for a new Smash? I mean I'm excited for a lot of other games on the system, but Smash alone can make me buy a console. The games are that good.

People enjoy using Z samus.

Also why are arguing this hard, over one of the few female reps in smash. what even...

It's actually pretty silly in those movies when you think about it.

Realistically you would wear some sort of bodysuit because there are bound to moving parts even on the inside of the suit. Why risk having something get snagged? Want to have a oxygen/compression leak at 2000 meters saving some submarine or whatever because of a snagged shoelace? :P

Yeah, that's why I'm pretty confident enough that we are going to get trailer in first place before Sakurai tweeted. I'm pretty pumped, but I can't let my hype go out of control until Monday morning or I wouldn't survive. :P

I'm also looking forward the SMT x Fire Emblem, but I would buy a Wii U anyway just for Smash.

This will be the first trailer, so no new character reveals.

That makes no sense. Melee's first trailer revealed Bowser, Peach, Sheik and Ice Climbers. The only non-unlockable newcomer left out was Zelda, who was revealed just as Sheik for a while. Brawl's revealed Meteknight, Pit, ZeroSuit Samus, Wario and Snake. We should get a few newcomers again.

Actually I don't care that much. I just don't want ZSamus to look like such a stereotypical fanservice character.

The ending depictions were alright for what they were. They could use the same opportunities to make her look tougher though.
