2K confirms layoffs at Civilization developer Firaxis

I'm playing it. Why the game is relatively good, there's a lot of issues with it. From a technical point of view, on PS5 Pro at least, the game isn't smooth. The design is not great at all. the part in the abbey as far as I am for now isn't really interesting to play.
That's weird, on my pc (with a GTX 1080, so a pretty old gpu by now) the game ran at a steady 60 fps.

What do you mean about the design? Visual design or game design? I found the progression in this game absolutely fantastic. All the perks you get from all characters which all connect together, making every single of your action in your abby actually important and impacting the combats, I really liked that, it felt very rewarding and engaging.

About the Abby, I personally actually enjoyed the exploration, there were a lot of secrets to discover and here too I found the progression interesting, because again it all connected really well with the rest of the mechanics.

I do understand not being too much into the social part though, if that's what bothers you. I didn't mind it, enjoyed some parts, found some others less interesting, but overall it was fine for me. I played Persona 5 Royal recently and that game was sooo much worse with the social stuff and its insane amount of bloat (I'm comparing to Persona because Midnight Suns clearly took inspiration from it for its progression system).

I really wish the game didn't flop and got a sequel that could have improved things even further. The concept would have been perfect for a sequel set in Xavier's School, that would have been amazing.

I'd say that the main problem with midnight suns is that the abbey part dragged and dragged if you were not already super invested in this comic book only cape shit melodrama. But the actual tactical gameplay was either not especially fun or it wasn't communicated to the player why it could be interesting of have interesting depth. Overall a very niche design that assumes you are already heavily invested in the world and design before you start. The design of this game consisted of much huffing of the designer's own farts and basking in games media sycophancy.

Civ VII was an obvious disaster.

Didn't see that advert before, Holy shit :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Must of been the winning formula the BBC used for depicting Anglo Saxons..

Who are these Revisionism cretins, where are they coming from? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I have insider knowledge. Won't tell you how so I don't doxx myself. But this title was delayed several times, not rushed. Firaxis is to blame for that. They tried to get tricky with gameplay and it backfired, and 2K leadership doesn't have the spine nor tact to tell Sid what to build. And the marketing campaign was a classic over expenditure with no soul.
Even so this game needed another delay. 6 months at least but probably one year.

There is a very high chance your CPU is better than the PS5 CPU, which wasn't upgraded for Pro. And the CPU has a lot to do in these sim/RTS type games, I'm guessing that's the issue

I didnt play it, but if I remember correctly wasnt the gameplay done in a such a way that a gamer goes through eras/stages? And after that ends, the gamer has to start over in the new era.

So instead one one giant gameplay from 0 BC to 3000 AD kind of thing, it was chopped up into pieces.
Looks like they just did that ridiculous BCE and CE nonsense, which is all I need to see to know to avoid a history game.

I've got friends there. I hope they're all still employed.

This is kind of crazy, Firaxis is holy ground and I thought they were untouchable, even if this Civ struggles, the others are still selling and still have good numbers. 2K would not go after them unless they really had to.

I wonder what will happen to the Judas team if that game struggles.
