Sakurai confirms Smash trailer at E3 direct!

Considering how Kojima has treated Nintendo consoles, I don't think Snake will be in this time. Besides, I always thought including Snake in Brawl was a weird fit to begin with.

I don't think we necessarily need a Pokemon rep for every gen, especially as I'd rather forget Gen IV ever occurred. We've never had a Gen II rep either! Or Gen III! Damn, I'm sad now.

Believe.

As long as we have a Gen V rep in there so that everyone remebers the Best Gen™, then I'm fine.

I wouldn't mind Scrafty, though I've never liked him much. He just seems like a good fit. I mean my Gen V fave Chandelure would hardly fit. Actually, Conkeldurr would be boss.

They better show new characters instead of the same old ones.

You can pretty much guarantee for sure they will. It's the excitement of a new Smash.

Little Mac is the closest there is to a character that I think needs to be in. But I won't be all that disappointed if he isn't included.
I agree with this sentiment. I want Little Mac in but I wouldn't bemoan his absence. It does make so much sense for him to be included though. He's a fighter, an iconic Nintendo character and he is recognisable from a recent game appearance.

Dillon is a must for me. Creating a scrappy character and leaving him out would be ignorant towards the smaller Nintendo IPs. Having an eShop character in there would be cool.

I would really like Dillon, a nice left-field decision, and a nice way to acknowledge that eShop IPs are indeed "proper" Nintendo IPs.

SIDE + B = Claw Dive
NEUTRAL B = Spin (Chargeable)
DOWN B = Dynamite

Etc., the character practically writes it's own moveset. It's the exact opposite problem you have with Starfox and Captain Falcon.

Ike was the most fun to play of the newcomers for me. Would be kinda weird if they replaced him, since his gameplay revolved around the fact that he has a big-ass sword and I don't think any of the potential Awakening candidates could fill that role.

Yeah was surprised no one in awakening was comparable at all to Ike in terms of style.

What is this I read about people wanting Pushmo stage and Battle Network Megaman in this game. It would be so glorious. Random Battlechips (Barrier, Minibomb, gradually up to great BattleChips kind of how Game&Watch's hammer works) as B-v, Megabuster/Cannon/Shotgun-VGun/Sidegun as standard B-button and Sword as side-B, or Smash.

I think your assessment of BN is correct (especially the bolded) but the timing of the MM franchise is such that the capital that BN built up doesn't exist anymore. It kept the franchise alive in the early to mid 2000's and was massively popular and commercialized, but it hasn't received any recognition in a few years. I know the producer wants to revisit the series, and with BN as my 2nd favorite MM series behind X I really hope they do, but for now the timing seems a bit awkward.

For those curious, Japan received about six seasons (of varying length) of Battle Network anime, and tons of merchandise. We received about 2-3 seasons (some episodes from the original Japanese run didn't air at all) if I recall correctly, and a decent proportion of the merchandise.

Where is this from ?

Despite what Iwata said about screenshots, there HAD to be a trailer. You don't come to E3 (okay not technically E3 I guess but whatever) and bring screenshots only.

I already leaked months ago it will be Haruka from iDOLM@STER. All the signs are there. It's is going to go my way. Get READY!!

Absolutely not going to happen. Anyone from that series would be the biggest waste of a character slot in smash bros history.

Assuming nintendo keeps the 3rd party characters in a minimum again, we can expect maybe 1 namco bandai character. In which case, it will be someone from Tekken, Tales of... (Probably Lloyd) or Pacman.

Have you not played Paralogue/Side Story 26? (Its not out in europe yet :( ) Because
Priam, being ikes descendent fits the bill perfectly, if they were going to include someone from awakening to replace him.

As I understand it though, Ike is pretty popular in the west, so that might work in his favour.

Yeah, but why would you pick that wanna-be over an actual main character?
He doesn't even have Aether...

Yeah that would have been a bit of a buzzkill, considering how insanely hypeworthy the Brawl E3 2006 trailer was. People went crazy.

I have no doubt Chrom, "Marth", or another FE:A rep will replace Ike. He was in there because the most recent Fire Emblem starred him. Thus... I suppose they could include someone from FExSmT

Yeah was surprised no one in awakening was comparable at all to Ike in terms of style.

To be fair, Ike himself fought much differently in his actual game than in Smash. Dude was like a ninja in Path of Radiance, backflips and cartwheels and all kinds of stuff while wielding that big ass sword.

I'd like to see him stay though. On the subject of FE, they could also put Roy back in (looking like my avatar with his actual flaming sword iaijutsu moves) and I'd be happy.

The one thing i hope they do is put more Pokemon and more final evo Pokemon for the Pokeballs. It was awesome in Melee seeing Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, etc but in Brawl we got Piplup, Chikorita, Torchic etc. Wheres the Dragonites, the Tyrannitars, Arcanines, Steelix', Garchomp, Torterra, etc. etc. No more cutesy Pokemon. Replace Staryu w/ Starmie, Meowth w/ Persian, be able to summon a Magikarp that evolves into Gyrados when hit with water or something.

A lot of characters in Brawl I felt were missing that essential "KO" move. Samus in particular, her Screw Attack was just flat.

That's because of like... two or three things altogether.

1. Stale Moves was far too strong and punishing, even though it takes awhile to degrade a move entirely, after like two or three uses it's practically worthless to try and KO with the move.

2. Veteran characters had moves that had high knockback growth knocked down to "make sense" for what kind of move they were. An example of this would be Fox's Utilt, which KOs in Melee around 145-150%, but in Brawl KOs much later. This also applies to some of Samus' moves that weren't intended for KOs (like Ftilt is really awful at higher %s for no reason iirc). And then you couple that with KB nerfs to her Dtilt, Nair, Bair, Super Missiles, and her Power Shot (again no reason for these to be nerfed) along with the tether mechanics changing (idk why Sakurai did THAT) and Samus just sucked period.

I forget the exact differences across the board between characters compared to Melee for KB stuff. But the vets from Melee had their KB values all changed around.

3. DI became easier.

Combine those 3 points and that's why a lot of chars couldn't really KO for anything at a certain point. I believe Sakurai's intentions was that you'd be playing with items to makeup for the lack of... being able to KO. But without items, it's significantly more difficult to KO in general.

I hope they buff the pokeball Pokemon. They were so absurdly weak/useless in brawl and that 3 pokeball limit was pointless.

And no-one in Awakening can Aether as well as ike regardless, because of the nerfs to Luna/Sol (Luna completely negated defense for Ike in RD, and Sol restored hp = equal damage done when compared to Awakenings, which only heals half the damage done).

Awakening did go out of its way to make the point that ike is the strongest lord too. (Even though with the hilarious imbalance in stats compared to previous games, it isn't strictly true).

Don't get me wrong, I'd much prefer to keep ike over any of the awakening characters.

Ahh ok that makes sense.
But yeah im all about the FE reps so anyone is game to come back even Roy.

FE:Awakening is the most popular of the franchise in years, right? Stands to reason they'd have at least one rep.

I was thinking along those lines too, what if they ditched my old standby Marth for
Lucina
along with Chrom to replace Ike? Or would that be too similar... I'd be fine with it though as long as there are new movesets for the 2 from FE:A.

edit: seems this was already covered previously in the thread...

Well, that's a bit of a balance issue too. Anyway, the point is that no one from Awakening could outright "replace" Ike, they would have to play differently.

Yeah, at least IS really seems to like Ike.

On the bright side, being a leap in hardware means that the trophies might be new high def interpretations of old designs like in melee, instead of "we have some gamecube and wii models laying around, dump 'em"

Source on 1. Snake and Sonic didn't fit that bill. Also iDOLM@STER has been on the DS.
2. iDOLM@STER is HUGE in Japan. Bigger than most other suggestion here.

And a bonus 3. Haruka is Sakurai's waifu.

LOL xD

Sonic didn't fit the first, but Mario, Sonic and Pacman are the holy trinity of number 2

Snake first game was on the NES

I think they'll keep Marth as the original FE rep, and then they'll always have a rep from the latest game.

Roy was from FE6. Removed Roy for Ike from PoR and RD. SSB4 will remove Ike for Chrom.

I think hardcore FE fans would be pissed off at the inclusion of
Lucina
for obvious reasons. I wouldn't, but that's because Awakening's the 2nd FE game I've played and I love it.

A crappy and late port though, he got his start on the MSX.

The rule wasn't for the character to have their start on a Nintendo console, just that they have to have appeared on a Nintendo console period.

Not to mention Kojima's famously disowned the port as a disaster.
