thugway, my PS+ subscription ends in 2014 will it count as PS World subscription? I know you probably don't know but damn. I renewed my subscription thinking it would carry over to PS4.

I want GAF to prepare for the worst, so I'm going to put this out here right now:

PlayStation World will be a tiered premium service. Most likely paywall will be there. Still unclear if the most basic functions aren't behind a pay wall, but MOST features will be.

Price of the system should be $429 low end-- $529 (larger hd + camera + better finishing?).

I know its been posted before, but it's mostly right. If you are ok with the price, everything else should make you happy.

Not sure how I feel about this. I don't care about camera and finishing but I'd probably want a bigger HD. Thats more expensive than I was hoping for.

Not liking the sound of almost everything going behind a paywall either.

I'm ok with the price and I already expected stuff like Gaikai streaming of games will be behind a paywall, but as long as online play being free, Plus price and used games stay the same I'll be happy.

Sorry if I'm, asking but who is GopherD?
He seems pretty respected so I assume that he's totally legit.
I'm trying to see things with rationality, I cannot let the hype explodes :D

As long as there are no DRM, and the basic online multy is free, no problems here.
Day one.

$429 and $529 just seem to be so odd prices when they are so close to $399 and $499. Well I guess we will find out soon enough.

I would think PS+ is either going to be the highest tier or stay just on the fact they are announcing new stuff for it up until and after E3.

Pretty much eveything on the Ps3 is behind a paywall, online play and stuff like Netflix is not.

I'm sure most of us expected the new features to be behind a pay wall, like streaming directly from the console.

I do expect online play and just being able to record you game (and the video file on usb and edit it on pc/upload it directly to youtube) to be free though.

No secret how crazy good the CG in Versus is.

Even in 2007 it looked stunning and that was before they said it was vastly improved.

I wouldn't worry about basic online play, that'll be free. I do wonder just how many features we've heard about so far will be premium-only though, that could be a downer.

Yeah as long as stuff like Netflix and online play remains free having a paywall for other services (like all the game streaming/ social networking and the PS+, and Gaikai streaming) is totally fine with me.

DRM is real. It's actually not Sony who wants to enable DRM. Sony will take the "let the third parties decide how to deal with it," approach. I don't know if Sony will exempt first party titles from it. I just want the bad news to get out of the way before you enjoy the press conference.

As for the conference itself, you will see some great stuff :).

Ah fuck it.

Exactly, just hope it won't be 429€ but I'm sure it will ;(
As long as online play is free, they can put whatever they want behind a pay wall, I don't care.

What does MOST features being behind a paywall mean? If I can do everything I currently do on PS3 without a paywall, then I will be happy, but if I have to pay an extra fee to watch Netflix, then...that's no bueno.

Also, $429 seems a bit weird...wouldn't it sound better to be $399-$499?

Uggh at that price though. I mean, i kinda expected, but ehhh. No rumors of a subsidized plan?

This was the original rumour afaik.

Free:

- Online free as the current Playstation Network
- Voice chat between all PlayStation certified devices, ie consoles and smartphones

Payment: (annual cost of about $ 89.)

- Playstation Plus (included with these services previously have) enhanced new proposals, users PS4
- Access to Gaikai for cloud-gaming with the option to play for free to list some of the titles in a month, while others pay
- Share photos and / or videos directly to YouTube
- More space for saved games in the cloud

Yup 399$ and 499$ make much more sense. It doesn't change a lot but there's a perception difference. We'll see, at least it seems that they're going to announce the price.
Playstation World is probably the next gen evolution of PS+ including Gaikai + extra features.

Indeed. I'm expecting most features to be behind a paywall, I'm not too worried about it.

DRM is real, but things can change. It's actually not Sony who wants to enable DRM. Sony will take the "let the third parties decide how to deal with it," approach. I don't know if Sony will exempt first party titles from it. I just want the bad news to get out of the way before you enjoy the press conference.

Isn't the paywall basically going to PS+ and Gaikai? They definitely won't go down the Xbox Live route.

And I thought it was basically confirmed that the camera was being included in the PS4 box?

So you're saying publishers will enforce DRM but not Sony? Exactly how it is this gen. I'm okay with that.

Is it mostly just online passes from like activision? Because that I can deal with to an extent.

Guessed as much. The ramifications for not playing ball may result in exclusive Xbone DLCs for the first few years as the user base grows.

Still, given the lack of online verification requirement and other arbitrary restrictions I'll be getting a PS4.

$429, DRM, plus paying for online?

It's like the industry WANTS to push me away.

Didnt Sony already say this stuff?

Pretty sure it was $999, but hardly any better.

Yeah, I think it was $1200 to start with but they dropped it to $1000 real quick. Myself and a mate had the discussion recently and he was adamant that was the case.

Maybe he just shopped at Harvey Norman lol.

No free online would seriously affect the likelihood of me getting the PS4, so I really hope that doesn't happen (even if it comes with other benefits that I would happily pay for, it would still put me off).

If you can play online, send/receive PSN messages, access the full PS Store and use the share features to record video and screenshots for personal use (even if they can't be shared, livestreamed etc) for free, then I'd be happy. The price of the system isn't a huge concern, as long as online pay and DRM/used games remain as they were this gen.

Way to give MS the exact opening they need, Sony.

How is this an opening? I think tiered is probably the best way to let someone choose what level of service they want. My only concern is that, like MS, they start moving other services I pay for behind a PSWorld paywall - like Netflix and other streaming video services.

I hope Sony lets publishers decide, because i am and i imagine many of you are interested in following sales-age from now on. I want see how EA games on PS4 do to compared to companies that do not force DRM on their customers, it would be very interesting to see it unfold.

This information is a bit old and NOTHING has changed. I know Bruce is on the case trying to figure things out as well, but I think there will be an online play paywall. The tiered plan I am hearing will be-

A. Basic online play / cross game chat / streaming. (30 a year)

B. All of A. + PS Plus discounts / games (60 a year)

C. Gaikai Streaming (100 dollars a year)

Numbers were guesses, and this info is from a week AFTER PS Meeting.
YUCK.

Hoping PS+ carries over somehow, since I'm paid until next year.

I'm wonder what paid online play will do for Vita, if anything. They surely can't suddenly start charging for online play on Vita too, right?

I was really hoping this wouldn't be true. Developers can decide to make PS4 games impossible to trade in, swap, loan etc.?

Oh for fuck sake. It's starting to get really hard to get excited for e3 at all.
