This information is a bit old and NOTHING new has come. I know Bruce is on the case trying to figure things out as well, but I think there will be an online play paywall. The tiered plan I am hearing will be-

A. Basic online play / cross game chat / streaming. (30 a year)

B. All of A. + PS Plus discounts / games (60 a year)

C. Gaikai Streaming (100 dollars a year)

Numbers were guesses, and this info is from a week AFTER PS Meeting.

How true is this?

There are so many really frustrated devs at the moment who will be trying to gain attention for some damn amazing work over the next few days, and its getting drowned in (justifiably) negative shit.

If the industry decides to allow corporate wanks to throw handbags at 10 paces, then let them. Let's remember what makes us excited about working and playing in this field. Hype it up!

And let Nomura's Return be EPIC :)

Well Sony has just lost me as a customer cause i not paying to play online .
I also know there was going to be DRM i just wonder if you can go more into detail .
My hype has now really die because of this Fuck Sony why would you do this .
Thuway is not Sony. Let them make actual announcements.

I'm still holding out hope that this is old information and they've changed, but I seriously doubt it.

thuway's been legit on most everything so there's no logical reason to start doubting him now

unless he's making things up to lower the ridiculous hype in this thread atm

I've said this before, this is all stuff that can be modified at the last second. If people feel strongly about it, I encourage you to let your voices be heard. I am just trying to add credibility to someone else btw- Kotaku had posted this way before anyone else, and for the most part they have been nearly 100% on everything.

Our source—the same reliable source who back in early 2012 told us the codename for Sony's next console and the codename for Microsoft's next console—tells us that there are two models planned for the new machine, and that pricing won't be announced until later this year, possibly around E3. The current plan, our source says, is to release them at $429 and $529, but that could change.
Orbis is also following the path first set by Xbox Live: our source says "most" of the PS4's online features will require a premium subscription to use. Sony's new online service will be called PlayStation World, our source says, replacing PlayStation Plus.

BTW this was all before the PS press conference, and the same poster leaked the DS4. So this info is mostly legit too.

That option A will cost Sony more then make them money.

the sad thing is that i'm not sure it will with the xbone so terrible. so many people pay for xbox live gold, they have to be wanting some of that.

not that it's any defense, charging for online will sap lots of my enthusiasm. i really love how it works on ps3, i have a 360 and barely use it because i know i have to pay extra to access parts of the games i own.

If it has a good value like PS+, I'm ok with paywall. But I hope MP will be free for those who don't want to pay.
As for price, I was expecting 450$, so I'm ok with that too.

I don't think they charge for online because it's such a huge fuck you to MS.

I think they come out of this conference with the Deathstar, every single possible advantage out for everyone to obsess over until the holiday season.

$529 is also way too high. It's like they learnt nothing from the $599 fiasco.

Exactly, how is $529 any less stupid than $599? They've crossed the mental barrier for most consumers. All the things they said about being mass market and affordable were a bunch of bullshit if this is true.

lol

pc gaming looking better and better

Does Always online really matter anymore? Yes its worse than PS4 but its looking more and more likely that you won't be able to rent PS4 games and that they'll have a similar trade in policy as MS.

:(

How do PS3 owners feels about this if the above is true?
Wait 5 minutes and let them respond naturally to the post themselves, perhaps? This schtick is wearing thin.

I'm not paying for access to basic online play or anything else that puts things I already paid for behind a paywall. I stopped doing it with XBL and I'm not starting up again for PSN.

When we say Gaikai Streaming as a tier level, what does that mean? The whole streaming right from purchase on the store etc?

Probably some form of access to a huge amount of games via Gaikai.

Seriously, Sony hasn't said anything and things can still change, so people stop flipping out as if they had.

So were talking possibile $629 if you go for the high end model and the top tier PS World sub? Now buy one launch title for it and you're getting close to $700.

I mean, holy shit?

The idea is to keep basic services free. Add value to plus. Anything else makes little sense. I like Thuway. But he's been wrong before. Very wrong. I think he's wrong here.

Charge people for streaming etc, but not to simply play a game online. No fucking way they're going with that model. If they did it would look wildly hypocritical. Online play was a core functionality before, so if they started charging for it how would it differentiate between other services like streaming?

Streaming = premium so it would make sense to charge for it.
Multiplayer, not so much. It's what set them apart from their competition for so long.

I think I'll try and stay away from this thread untill after E3. All this insider-talk is messing with my head.
Please don't let this be true.

Wasnt one of the Verendus rumors saying that Sony was messing with the idea of PS1/PS2 Gaikai streaming included with PS+. Thuways stuff contradicts that. Unless Sony dropped that idea :(

Looking back the past few days, I keep asking myself how could the XBone get worse?

And it did.

If this is the worst the PS4 has to offer then bring it.

The prices will drop eventually. The subscription for paid online play is terrible but everyone on the internet can raise a huge fuss about it and hopefully change their minds in time for launch.

Well, if it's true anyways.
