TRUTHFACT: MS having eSRAM yield problems on Xbox One

People saying gaf is doing whatever they can to downplay XBone, is that serious? Or doesn't anyone remember what happened when the PS3 was announced at $599? Giant Enemy Crab? Come on now.

GAF really hates the Xbox right now, and I'm sure some people are getting a little too muh glee out of it; Sony's lack of clarity regarding its own policies is also VERY troubling and we aren't talking enough about that.

That being said, The Xbox is really upsetting gamers, me included. I get the Steam argument, but I'm not buying. These policies hurt the consumer and that's me.

Plus, GAF eviscerated Sony when the 599 thing was announced, and the PS3 is generally acknowledged as sub-optimal on many fronts on this forum.

I agree, though to be fair MS is not exactly giving people many reasons to embrace them, lol.

GAF tends to skew Sony, in part because the majority of GAF's userbase, sadly, are console fans, many of whom have been console gaming for a very long time. As such, they're more likely to be invested in Sony or Nintendo. It's always seemed fairly obvious to me that in a normal GAF discussion, the response to criticizing a Microsoft or Nintendo game is more likely to elicit agreement, whilst a negative comment towards a Sony game will readily garner a fairly consistent wall of general "fuck you," "you're insane" and other, similar remarks.

The negativity surrounding the PS3 early on, and continued with their inferior ports such as Skyrim and the constant graphics side-by-side screenshot comparisons, and the huge negativity surrounding the PSV. I don't see how you could say this board is pro-Sony.

We're pro-consumer and pro-good gaming for the most part. Any major company that truly fucks up gets reamed by the populous.

GAF skews whatever you're most sensitive about. I don't know where you're getting your data from other than your own idiosyncrasies regarding what you notice most, but for example for multi-platform MP console games on GAF, the larger communities are almost always 360, by far. Those Halo and other 360-specific topics also seem to do alright.

This

Also follow controller discussions, most people on GAF prefer the 360 controller.
There's no bias here, the ms and xbone negativity is purely a result of the anouncements from the last weeks.

You should've seen the massacre after the ps3 reveal, the years of ps3 has no games, or more recently, the vita is doomed attitude.

I feel the hate is justified.

Pretty much every decision by Microsoft on the Xbox has been terrible.

It absolutely is justified.

It's just that the whining about very restrictive DRM and consumer rights is kind of hypocritical when it comes from the same people who are praising Steam at any given moment.

Steam has offline play and doesn't need to check home every 24 hours.

I think GAF has been rather PRO 360 and more negative against PS3

Xbone is just a product made by out of touch executives.
Just like @Home was made by a marketing team...

Steam is digital only service and allows offline play.

Reducing physical media to a transport mechanism and enforcing draconian DRM for single player games is something else entirely.

That's not 100% true. I lost my internet connection not long ago for a whole month due to a troublesome house moving.

During this period it was not possible for me to play my Steam games. Steam said that the "offline mode" has to be activated separately while being logged into my account...well tough luck, I guess?

They already fixed that long time ago

Not just that. Before Steam the alternative was SecuROM and TAGES, and even before that CD-keys had impaired the secondary market (not the fault of the publishers, but the fault of dickish human nature.) So Steam was a big improvement. Regardless of the merits of a digital platform. the xbone is not an improvement.

Yeah, it seems like a shit load of people coming out the wood work to start their astroturfing duties before E3.

GAF is not a hivemind people. You fuck up, GAF is there to tell you that you fucked up. No favoritism in this place.

Gaf is not anti Xbone, that is bullshit. If we go to post previous to the Xbone unveiling everyone was exited about the new MS console.

Now just weeks later MS-Publishers-Retailers/Gamestop (aka "The Circle of Greed") want to change how do we use our games and they expect we can still be smiling and be happy for it.

I do not care about the TV/kinetic demo stuff , or the yields issues or if the console is less powerfull than PS4. But I care about what to do with my properties , my games , consoles, car , home, etc. Nobody has the right to tell me where and how I will sell my stuff..plain and simple.

Well, in your opinion there is a difference between physical and digital media, although there really isn't. Both are the same price, and you actually just buy the rights for the software, not the software itself.

Man, I thought steam was for buying games, not playing them.
I haven't touched half the games I've bought this year.

As far as I remember you could sell the games with your CD-Key. These keys were just not logged to one PC, but can you resell games on Steam?

The odd part is the physical discs are more marketable to people with shitty internet.... however people with shitty internet may (will) have issues with this console.... I feel like if Microsoft wants to require online every 24 hours they should have nixed physical games entirely. I just don't see the point of physical copies if they have no benefits over digital copies (due to drm, and reduced or eliminated used sales)

I guess the other benefit to physical is retailers actually tend to reduce the price of games for shelf space.... whereas Sony and Microsofts stores rarely drop prices by much unless the games are a couple years old.

Buying used games with CD-keys became risky because humans are dicks. Even as far back as bungie.net there were some games that would require a high degree of trust (or a low price) for a person to be willing to buy used. Once more annoying forms of DRM came about buying used was just pointless, as games had install limits. Steam became popular at the nadir of restrictive DRM policies.

Contrast that with Sony and Microsoft, who have never made a platform that restricted the transfer of physical media. So yes, moving to restrictive DRM does diminish the value of their platforms even relative to Steam.

I was sure that was a joke. Good credit goes a long way...
Yeah, I remember him from PS3 or Vita threads. (He could still be a shill? Who knows?!)

Also too many people are getting banned around my Brad Shoemaker quote. I have survivor guilt now.
(This doesn't mean I should also be banned!)

Considering all the bad rep Sony got at the beginning of last gen from GAF, I don't think that's true. There's only a slant towards Sony right now because Microsoft shat on gamers beds.

GAF tends to skew Sony
GAF only tends to skew towards Sony right now because Nintendo screwed the pooch with WiiU and MS painted multiple targets the size of the moon on themselves lately. But if you've been here around PS3 launch and a good year or two after that, it was the absolute polar opposite. Sony was being laughed at every step of the way.

Right again!

It's as if no one remembers the PS3 launch and the PSP. Sony has been shit on plenty when it was the other way around.

I agree with what you said but,

Lord Error
Insane for Sony

MS better have a strong showing at E3. As a longtime supporter, this is just a disaster.
I went Xbox and then Xbox 360. I was extremely happy with both consoles.

So far it seems like they've shit the bed with the Xbox One. I can't imagine myself picking it over the PS4 at this point. I'll likely be returning to Sony for the first time since PS1.

Microsoft needs to have the best E3 showing in recent memory.

Why? Is becoming "evil" worse than being "evil" from the get-go? In the end it is not about good or evil, consumer friendly or super restrictive, it's about running a business and aiming for profit.

I wouldn't wonder if in the near future Steam just copies the way MS will handle second-hand gaming and establish their own "fee" program. At least this way people would be able to resell their games finally...

Well, you do have the advantage of not having to download 40Gb of data, which is why even with a great connection, some people still want to have a physical disk.

1. I never brought up "evil".

2. Why is it about running a business? I'm not running a business.

Reselling games was a plus for Microsoft and Sony platforms compared to Steam, from the consumer perspective. A feature, you might say. Removing that feature diminishes the value of their product.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Steam creates a system that allows license transfers. There was some speculation that EU regulations required them to, and even if that isn't actually true they might want to get in front of any legal action that might come their way. But, right now they definitely are only at the experimental stage of allowing direct transactions of any sort between Steam users.

1. I never brought up "evil".

Right, but the consensus here is that Valve/Steam is "good" and Microsoft is "evil". I just think they are both just corporations and are doing what is best in their own interest.

2. Why is it about running a business? I'm not running a business.

Microsoft is. It's important to remember this, they are here to make profit not charity.

I think that Pachter said it very well when he said that there is no real difference between the business practices of Microsoft and Valve, it's just that Valve communicates/markets it better...

Damn, no one realized that. Everyone on this thread literally thought they were a charitable organization. This is why we pay them money for things we don't pay anyone else for. I always thought Live was the video-game equivalent of a PBS tote bag.

This is what Brad Shoemaker from Giant Bomb had to say about a majority of GAF after this topic came up.

"GAF has such a hard-on to see the Xbox One fail, I'd reserve judgement. Place is full of frothing Sony fans."

-------------

Yes Brad this MUST be it.

Why do you think he (and may others both outside & inside) would say that?

You're on fire today.

And we have a choice to not endorse this practice.
