Super Mario 3D World for Wii U

The disappointment with this stems from it looking like 3D Land. People were expecting something on a bigger scale, but what we've seen looks super safe. The gameplay camera angle reminds people of the handheld one, and levels shown aren't doing the game any favors.

And why does Mario freakin Kart 8 look better visually??

NSMB multiplayer with 3D Land Gameplay. Seriously what's the matter with some of you?

I was grinning like an idiot watching that trailer. It looks so fun, maybe I can get my Dad and sister in on this one as they're NSMB fans but got way too confused playing Galaxy.

I never thought there would be so many people disappointed in a 3D Mario with 4 player multiplayer where the characters have their Super Mario Bros 2 characteristics. Not even Charging Chuck could save the reveal for you?

I didn't want this game. I didn't want Galaxy 3, either. I wanted a proper 3D console successor that was uniquely inspired. This is not that game. 3D Land is great, but this wasn't the high profile game the WiiU needed right now.

On the positive side, it's nice to see Peach playable again.

My nieces are 6 and 4 respectively. Can't wait to surprise them with a Wii U and this game for the holidays. Will be a blast playing with them.

Just watched the Mario dev direct, this looks amazing, the graphics are super clean! I have nothing but faith in EAD Tokyo, so I'm super pumped for this.

I thought this and Sonic looked really great. I haven't played the 3DS game yet though, so maybe if you have, you'd feel underwhelmed by this Wii U sequel.

My only concern is how is the single player. They are really selling the 4 player aspect which makes me wonder. I had the same concerns about NSMB Wii, which is why I also stayed away from that game (as well as the fact I was Mario'd out by then).

Watching the developer video showed off some nice effects like the grass blowing and rustling, the depth of field is really nice looking too.
Quite a nice looking game even if it does seem to heavily borrow from 3DLand.
The transparant pipes seem like a nice idea too, kinda funny to see how mario has been travelling along them all this time heh.

Looks awesome but needs two critical things:

- Game has to be challenging. First game was shamefully easy.

- Online. For gods sake, online. Many of your fans and consumers are lonely people, Nintendo. They have nobody to play these stuff together. Help them. Add an online mode.

People need to understand the problem with these games that Nintendo has shown us isn't that they are necessairly "bad" it's the fact that they're pretty much nothing new. They are essentially sequels to games we already just played. People got pissed off at New Super Mario Brothers U because it was essentially New Super Mario Brothers 2 in HD, in which the latter game came out not much longer after the previous Wii entry. Its the same why people are underwhelmed with DKC Wii U. We played the predecessor not long ago, I mean hell its getting a rerelease on the 3DS. Same with Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 7 was what two years ago? And this game is the same thing. For many 3D Land wasn't that long ago. People wantd something new and different like how Galaxy was at the time for Wii. So far Nintendo has been very underwhelming.

They are getting the shit for similar reasons Microsoft (well at least their games portion) or theirs. Nothing interesting just things that we have alprady gotten on the 3DS and Wii.

i'm sure the level design will be great, but it following in the footsteps of 3D Land is pretty disappointing, even though i loved the game.
i just expected something more...

I loved Mario 3D Land but this bothers me for 3 reasons:

1- Wii U is much more powerful than 3DS yet this game is not indicative of that

2- Where is the epic soundtrack like the Galaxy games?

3- Using backgrounds from NSMB

Once you get over the disappointment that this is not the 3D Mario we wanted (some would say deserved), you see it for what it looks to be: a fun as hell game and sequel to one of the best Mario games there is. If the WiiU never got the huge, genre-defining Mario we expected this to be, then I'd be really disappointed, but I have a feeling it's in the works.

So if this is Nintendo's idea of the future of 3D Marios, I worry they will kill the franchise in the long term. Mario 3D Land is a fantastic mobile game, but it is too "condensed" for a main series console game.

I think everyone who has played 3D land will tell you that it is indeed a GREAT game. That doesn't mean I wanted the flagship title on the new console to be a sequel to a 3DS game.

It seems rushed to me, and it certainly doesn't fill me with awe, like the galaxy games did. :(

Well I really liked 3D Land and it looked awesome so I guess I will really like this as well. MP looks insane in a good way, NSMB MP is already fun as hell, this looks like it will top that.

I really liked 3D-land, but going into the direct expecting something at least as epic/fresh as Galaxy I can't help but say I'm dissapointed. I hope this is at the very least not the only 3D-Mario we'll see on the Wii U (that would be a huuuuuuuuge bummer).

And seriously, they are making a freakin catsuit the main theme of the game? Even going as far as making the catsuit part of the logo? I got why they did it with the Tanooki in 'Land', but this is just ridiculous.

Maybe its because I'm tired but that didn't look all that visually. I was expecting the 3D Mario title to blow my balls off and show what the Wii U can do.

This.

Now I'm just bitter that I stayed up till 1am and the only new game I got WAS FUCKING DONKEY KONG.

Everything Nintendo announced I was happy with...except for this. I honestly thought I was seeing a 3DS game (due to the crappy stream cutting in and out) until the title card popped up. I couldn't believe I was seeing a Wii U game the entire time. :( This is not what I asked for Nintendo.

Going Toad, all the way.

I really hope they make a single-player only 3D mario title, though. I desperately crave one.

I think watching the developer video should be a requirement before making posts like this. I thought it was a "3DS game" when watching the garbage stream too, but watching this it's very clear that none of what you said applies above, outside the soundtrack (which we have not heard a thing about yet):

This isn't even Galaxy "NSMB-ified". It's literally just a NSMB game in four directions instead of two. Absolutely pathetic.

This is not how you sell people on a fucking high end console Nintendo.

And that's what I think every time I see brown/black/blue/orange game with a gun #749201.

Different strokes for different folks.

hmmmm. not impressed. I'm actually a bit let down.

Sonic Lost World looks way better and more interesting. Never thought I'd say a Sonic game is better then Mario....

I am hella down for more Mario 3D Land are you kidding me. I remember being so bummed about 3D Land until I played more than just 1-1. Fantastic game, and this looks even better. The levels they showed off in that reveal trailer looked fantastic by themselves, but then add in the SMB2 cast, NSMBWii style multiplayer, and the cat mario powerup and holy shit Im so damn sold.

The cat suit looks so amazing, I love the traversability it has with the wallclimbs, slides and faster movement and the jump attack looks so satisfying to use. I feel like Nintendo could build a whole platformer out of that suit alone! Like thats whats pushing my hype up beyond "Looks neat". I just wanna play levels as cat mario

To be honest, it looks really fun. But I was expecting something in the same scope of the Galaxy games. I'm sure this is going to be great, but I'm a little bit disappointed.

I think the game looks really fun. Some of my best multiplayer experiences last gen were with co-op Mario. That said, I was expecting the first "real" Wii U Mario to show us why we needed the gamepad. If Nintendo can't even find a good use for it, I don't see the Wii U lasting much longer.

I have watched the trailer on e-shop, looks stunning. Also during the Reggie interview on GT I could only watch Mario 3D world on the TV in the background, so georgeos

btw: I really would like to be in America this week, only to visit best buy and play the game

I hope I don't get in trouble for saying this, but I really thought it was a 3DS title when I saw the in game footage. Maybe the trailer I saw was too low res or something...

At any rate, I'm not impressed by the visuals.

This game looks deceptively excellent. It isn't trying to be the 2nd coming of Jesus that Galaxy was, and yet you can see the gameplay innovations are there...

To be honest, it looks really fun. But I was expecting something in the same scope of the Galaxy games. I'm sure this is going to be great, but I'm a little bit disappointed.

It looks fun, no doubt. But I think many of us expected the true evolution of the Mario series. I would be peeing my pants if 3D World was instead announced for the 3DS.

Havent played 3D Land but will this year for sure.

Was expecting a Galaxy like game but oh well. Still better than NSMB.

Looked great at the reveal.

People thinking Nintendo would be able to top Galaxy must be disappointed, but this cements Galaxy's legacy in videogaming as one of the all-time greats. It is not so easily repeated, let alone topped.

The soundtrack is pretty underwhelming. Thats like my main criticism with 3d land too (and the NSMB games come to think of it)

idk what is up with Nintendo and music in Mario games these days. The whole game should sound like the Treasure Chase music from Rayman Origins or the Puzzle Plank music from Mario Galaxy 2

I think watching the demo footage should be a requirement before making posts like this. The soundtrack is very clearly MIDI.

4-2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=decgvdtnkcQ
4-Boss: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JJknmww4-8
6-3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOsGbb-Kd-U

More than half of the Galaxy soundtrack was MIDI as well. We simply don't know whether they're midi-ing the whole thing or if they will take a similar route as to what they've taken with their last games (some orchestra, some midi).

I'll err on the side of entirely-midi as well, but we simply don't know.

Nintendo, you are dead to me. To think that there was once a time when I considered Super Mario Sunshine to be a disappointment... whatever shortcomings it had, there was still a meaty game packed in that 1.5 GB disc, with refined, precise mechanics and cutting-edge graphics. I was expecting to be astounded by a flagship Mario as usual, but only got a solid game. Ohh, those were the days!

But what's with this '3DS inspired' crap? An open-world spiritual successor to Mario 64 was all I needed.

Fuck yeah 4-player.
Fuck yeah SMB2 cast.

People will find any reason to be upset, but that's the Nintendo snob mantra for you: If it's not "innovative" (whatever that means), then it must surely suck.

How can't people differentiate between 3D Land and 3D World?

I mean are you new to consoles or what is the matter? 3D World shits on 3D Land with its lighting and DoF effects alone

I loved Mario 3D Land but this bothers me for 3 reasons:

1- Wii U is much more powerful than 3DS yet this game is not indicative of that

Don't know if trolling or just blind.....

I think the visuals in the game are technically great, but a lot of people can't see past art style.

See: years of "every Halo game looks the same" even if each successive title was more technically advanced than the last.

I WON'T judge the whole game with a <3min trailer.
I loved 3D Land and this game looks even better.

C'mon guys, you barely saw 3 levels there. Maybe there's a mix between 3D Land and the Galaxy games.
