Super Mario 3D World for Wii U

this belongs on the 3DS, not a console.

Nintendo were really not prepared for HD I guess. Rushing to push titles out based on recent past sucesses as quickly as possible.

I truly hope this isn't Koizumi's game, and that something with that creative and imaginative flair is being made. By far my disappointment of the show.

WHY IS ANYONE SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT THE DIVE BUTTON? (that move that you did with the B button)

Didnt you guys love it back in the day (mario 64, shunshine)? The dive button in combination with the different jumps was what gived mario that fast and great movility... Moving mario around the levels was fast and it gave you "freedom".

I miss it soooooo much. 3d mario is not the same without it. Nintendo!!!

If this game had a behind the back closer camera view people would probably be thinking differently.

I do hope they bring the planetoids or some new ideas in but as long as the levels are significantly bigger than in 3D Land, which I'm pretty sure they will be, it'll be fine guys.

Also Cat Mario & friends have dive kicks.

OK after watching the HD trailer on youtube I change my mind. This looks pretty freaking sick.

CHARGIN CHUCK!

Still hoping for a hub world of some kind...

And my only real complaint with 3D Land was the 3DS analog nub and triggers, so that should all be fine on the U pad.

Thought this was a 3DS game at first because the stream was so shitty I went over to the UK one instead.

I guess Galaxy and Galaxy 2 would be a hard act to follow, but after watching the trailer on YouTube, I'll say I'm looking forward to this, but not overly excited/hyped. Looks fun, if anything.

Sorta hoping this line of games replaces any NSMB strategies had in store for the future, mainly because I don't want this to be the mainline Mario for Wii U.

3D Land is great, but having an HD version of it with cats is not going to sell me on your console.

Chill. EAD has the best level designers in the industry. It will probably be fine.

Maybe, maybe not. A better trailer would probably help a little. All we got was some MP shit and a Cat Mario.

People expect to see what the Wii U is capable of. Not just Mario messing around with his friends in a cat suit.

See these screenshots look great. I would have preferred something that's more like the Galaxies too, but the footage we have so far just screams fun to me.

I really liked Super Mario 3D Land and am happy to play more of that style of game but as the flagship title shown off a day after the Xbox One and Playstation 4 games it (and the rest of Nintendo's lineup) generated very little excitement.

The Wii had a unique gimmick when it came out that people latched on to which made it sell a lot in the first few years. It also had help from a few high profile big idea games like Galaxy. The Wii U already feels tired but without the install base.

Some folks need to calm down. It's just a game.

Anyway, it seems to me this is not the flagship Mario title at all, just something done for the 2013 holiday. 2014 seems to be when all the major titles are going to be finished (unsurprisingly, given they've had to adjust to HD development).

Really loving it but still missing the fact that it wasn't something completely "new" and innovative. The only thing that can make it better is if that second half of the game (much how 3D Land had) is a pure Mario Bros. 2 throwback with Wart as the final boss, full of phantom masks and Birdo's.

The whining needs to stop.

3D Land was amazing. It looks like we're going to get an even bigger world from that game with more powerups and co-op multiplayer.

I'm hyped.

This. smh at the whiners, wow. Just because it doesn't have a "big scale" (whatever that means) or it doesn't take place in space means that it won't be as creatively good? Come on now. The levels show plenty of big open levels with neat stuff in them.

Just watched the developer video, and got pretty hyped when the guy said that there are ton of new ideas in it and it would be the best culmination of ideas of past 3D Mario games. This game is going to be amazing.

this is the best

LOVE the classic artstyle, glad they're showcasing it in this one too.

It looks fun, but it also seems kinda...soulless, I guess. It just lacks that creative spark that Galaxy obviously had (even if you hate its linearity).

I'll admit... I was very dissapointed with the announcement. It looked so uninspired.

But I loved 3D Land and I'm sure I'll love this. So it may end up being the game that sells me a Wii U. Its a shame that pure creativity and imagination from the Galaxy titles are gone, but... this should be ok too.

But I swear to god if they turn the "3D" series into the 3D equivalent of NSMB with continuous uninspired iterations, I'll be furious.

Agreeing that it doesn't really feel like a flagship Mario to me. It definitely was not what I was expecting when I thought "3D Mario" (guess it makes sense considering the 3DS).

Then again, I didn't really like 3D Land and I haven't played the Galaxy games yet (I'm getting to it, ok!)

It'll be fun, and I'll definitely buy it, but it just feels completely devoid of the personality that's a huge part of the greatness of console 3D Marios. I hope they prove that first impression wrong.

Developer Direct. Tell me what you want, but I feel it's amazing.

After watching this I can understand why people were disappointed by it not being a new Galaxy-like game but man, how can you not appreciate this? It truly looks like design-wise they're taking all the best bits from previous 3D Marios and turning it into something great. Multiple playable characters, not just in multiplayer. The worlds look fantastic and big. It's taking all the bits from SMW and SM2 that they never evolved. It's the Mario game I've always wanted.

Like, this is such a miniscule detail to me but I love how it gives you complete camera control in single player. It feels big and free.

So it's basically a sequel to 3D Land on the Wii U. Disappointing. This was supposed to the one title on the Wii U that wouldn't disappoint, but it did. People say that this isn't the flagship Mario title on the Wii U, but they've had PLENTY of time to create a proper 3D Mario. Galaxy was a launch title for the Wii. The Wii U is going to be out for over a year with no unique Mario game.

I'm convinced that Nintendo has lost all their originality. They used to be the ones raising the bar, now they can't even meet it. I want to have a reason to buy a Wii U. I want to enjoy the quality and uniqueness of Nintendo's first party games. It looks like that can only be found on the older consoles. I just preordered a PS4.

looks really good in HD damn. I wanted Galaxy 3 or a successor to that but this looks pretty great too.

also.. welcome back GAF.. worst E3 ever for gaf.

Seems to me they had to scramble to get it done quickly

3d World was probably a lot easier to make then a new Galaxy style evolution game

I was disappointed a lot by this.Foolish to think that they were making the next Galaxy... Well, it will be a fun game nevertheless.

Bland! Uncreative! Uninspired! Bland! Rehash! Cash-in! Lacking in charm! Unfuzzy! Bland!

Some criticisms are a little too abstract for me.

How do you know that? You obviously havent played 3D Land on the 3DS. It CAN get very difficult

It was pretty easy until the secret set of stages.

One thing that kills me about every Nintendo direct/ video as of late, you have to rewatch it in higher quality / via a developer direct video to get a true impression. I've gone from ok, to slightly hyped.

Could someone explain to me why this "plays like a handheld" flipping out I keep seeing. I don't understand how a game can "play like a handheld".
