Ok after going through this thread, I'm much more skeptical. There are some valid points raised about how this actually controls. It looks flat out amazing but I am worried that this is more a concept video than actual gameplay. It looks way too good to be real.

I really hope the camera won't be an issue when there are enemies all over the place. Though to be fair a lot of games have problems in this area.

If people want turn based, by a 3DS and get Bravely Default.

Meanwhile let's let next gen games actually try to be innovative please.

I think it's too early to say innovative. XV definitely looks different but innovative? I think that is yet to be seen. Just cuz it's action != innovative.

This is Nomura's baby, have faith :o

Despite the name change i can assume XV will still remain in the Fabula Nova Crystallis lore correct?

yes its right there at the beginning of the vid here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDucrHWAFdk

please don't let the negativity get to you. The game has always been ambitious from the get go.It supposed to be that way.

Why are people calling "ATB" turned-base? The whole point is that it isn't turned based. Active Time Battle.

huh? I remember ATB going all the way back to FFIII. enemy on one side of the screen. party on the other. you took turns hacking the air and doing damage and otherwise never moved

just because there was an active timer between rounds didn't make the battle any less turn based. it just added urgency to your strategy.

I'm not predicting those windows because that's what I want but because that's what I think will happen. Also, 1.5 was charged high in Japan. 2.5 will be similar in Japan. That's not a big BIG game to you? k.
An HD Collection is not a big release that could substitute not having a game like mainline FF or KHIII releasing during a fiscal year. Japanese SQEX NEEDS to get Versus out during their next fiscal year (which could extend the release schedule to Q1 2015, but I doubt it) and there's nothing else SQEX is working on that is as far in development as XV.

I mean, SQEX IS releasing XIV 2.0, FFX | X-2 HD and Lightning Returns within 3 months of each other in Japan, they aren't scared of having several big games + an HD collection release so close to each other. They'll release the game once it's done and considering how much pre-production was already done for the PS3 version and how far along they got in the development of it (they aren't scrapping everything they did for it, just improving on all they've done) before changing to next-gen, it's really not that impossible a goal to have Versus XIII during the calendar year 2014.

So this has been a next gen game for 4 years!? No wonder they've been so quiet about it. It would have angered a lot of people (myself included) if they said it was no longer gonna be on PS3 if they didn't have this amazing gameplay footage to make up for it.

It's crazy how real-time graphics look pretty much like the Advent Children CG film now. We've come such a long way since FFI on NES. *sniff sniff*

It's not in concept phase anymore, it's real and they waited this long to show the game again because they wanted to get it playing like this. They are far along in development.

Where did you get 4 years? It's hardly been in development for 4 years with all the delays/hold-ups in its production due to things they have little to no control of, it was only moved to next-gen platforms last year.

In your eyes it's not a substitute. In Japan, SE clearly thinks it is. The way pricing is handled is different in Japan, sure. However, this doesn't mean they're not going to designate as a title for that quarter.

I also never said this game isn't coming out in 2014. I think it'll come out in 2014 but for Japan first. However, SE doesn't want to set this in stone quite yet which is why they didn't say anything at E3. My guess is that they want to use a couple of months until TGS to figure out the rest of their dev roadmap and see when they can release it. My guess is that it'll come out Winter 2014 for Japan and Spring 2015 for the west.

Kingdom Hearts 1 battle system is innovative?

And I'd like them to do something innovative with the ATB system, like what Final Fantasy XIII did. That felt more 'innovative' than what XV looks like right now.

yay someone understands

This is not KH battle system, it's way above/evolved/changed from that. Just because it's an action RPG =! Kingdom Hearts. Nomura has even said he wants to make KH & XV NOT to play too similarly. Both have their own place in the action RPG genre, just like The Witcher doesn't play like Demon's Souls which doesn't play like Kingdom Hearts.

Looks like next gen should- why didn't I see more of this vid at the conference?

Because Sony decided to spend 15 minutes on showing of Watch_Dogs, a game that many have seen already.

Not that I mind Watch_Dogs, it's just they dragged that demo way too long

Shocker, SQEX games have SQEX tax in Japan. That doesn't make the 2.5 HD ReMix comparable to a NEW mainline FF release nor affect its release schedule in any way.

As far as I know they are quite far with stuff like voice-acting (they've been doing it in bits & pieces for years now) in Japanese, so it could very well have a worldwide release if they start with the localization early due to that. That's what SQEX is aiming for with their biggest titles, though with stuff like Lightning Returns they understand it's for a damaged part of the franchise so it won't sell against other bigger games in the west.

Oh you're right. Thanks. I totally misread this one article. It's only been next gen for one year. Wonder when they decided to move it completely to next gen though.

It looks well beyond a concept phase to me. I'm sure this isn't the final final product, but probably close.

you do know they've been working on this like

forever...

like...

Last Guardian forever!!!

Lightning from FF13 even has 3 games now!!

One year ago.

Freakin day one. I hope there's a PS4 Bundle with this game (there probably will be) because I may not get a PS4 until this comes out. It depends.

People confuse turn based with command menu based.

All ATB FFs had cool down for commands though, with varying degrees of course.Or you had to wait for a command bar to fill to execute an action.Ranging from 1-2 seconds (FF13) to probably 1-2 minutes in FF9(LOLOLOLO)

Excuse the format, can't get to a proper PC to write this down clearly. The press page for FFXV went out. A spot translation of the synopsis:

I feel an avatar bet brewing...

I really hope they do a traditional rpg after this and not just sequels to this.

I mean this looks interesting but the combat isn't up my alley. There is too much "get boss to 90% health" then do something flashy to kill it. Plus the enemies with guards are basically doing nothing the whole time.

New Gameplay Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBilT83Uq4A&hd=1

Details from Nomura on the livestream.

-They shifted the game to next-gen and made it a mainline title due to the scale/scope.
-The game is an action RPG, but there are command system elements in the game.
-Noctis is "not cool inside" and not a cool dude, but a quirky dude.
-Party members are a core part of Final Fantasy, so there is a party in this game.
-Noctis can teleport himself into the sky. Though he's not a gravity wizard, Noctis does not fall at a Newtonian rate for gameplay purposes.
-The current generation console versions were canceled about a year ago. They're still working to improve the graphics on the next-gen version.
-They are making games in DirectX 11 on PC and then porting them to the PS4 and Xbox One since they can handle that. They can consider any platform that support high end DirectX 11 level hardware functionality and horsepower. (Hey Square, that DX11 PC dev platform you mentioned earlier can run this! Just saying!)

so... another 6 years of development? hell ya!
