Does it do the stupid thing in NSMB where all players pause if one is hit? I HATE THAT MECHANIC.
no it does not. i know this because i was hit multiple times.

People don't really know what the fuck they want.
It uses most of its assets from the Galaxy games, so I'm not really sure what you're talking about. Most of its influences come from Super Mario Bros 3. 3D Mario games pretty much look like this.
holy shit I thought most people complained about SMG1's hub so the devs smartened up and took it away in SMG2. The hubs in 64 and Sunshine were shit too.
Now people want a hub back?
Oh? That's seriously great news!no it does not. i know this because i was hit multiple times.
Ok, I suppose I should just say 'generic' rather than 'NSMB-like'. It looks like a generic Mario-themed game compared to Galaxy and Sunshine, which had interesting themes. NSMB I find generic as well, which is where the comparison comes from.
One thing I liked about 3D Land was they didn't go overboard with open 3D design. Nothing here really says they are going to recapture that. Also I like the character icons a little too much.
Expansive hub worlds made sense back when they were novel and technically impressive, and also when I was coincidentally in middle school and had all the time in the world to kill in front of the TV.yes
I've come to hate the SMB3-style level selection
and Delfino Plaza was brilliant and I've never heard anyone complain about Peach's Castle
I hope someone can get some good footage of it showing Mario in 3rd person. I would think it would be apt to just put "Welcome to Galaxy" on it afterwards.
I guess that is fair, but I feel NSMB's themes are usually visually the same, but 3D Mario games aren't. Like you may have grass levels or water levels that share the same theme but look completely different. NSMB isn't like that.
I'm sure this game will be fun but...
Look at the evolution between each console mario game
You see the jump in terms of concept and style, not just the graphics but that each game did something more extreme and different. You have Mario in the Mushroom Kingdom, you have Mario in a dinosaur continent, you have Mario in 3D, you have Mario in paradise and then you have Mario in SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
Now, we have Mario back in the Mushroom Kingdom and it's multiplayer and the characters can transform into cats? I'm sorry, but this is not what I expected from the next big title.
And then you have this underwhelming usual mario game that would best be fit for the 3DS and just looks less interesting.
So for right now, I am not buying a Wii U anytime soon until Nintendo gets their act together.
I barely hyped their direct and I still was left with disappointment, best thing about it was Megaman in smash bros. But who cares about my opinions, I might as well get a PS4 and stick with my 3DS, Mario and Luigi Dream Team seems original and fun.
Oh? That's seriously great news!
From the videos it still seems to slightly "freeze" when someone grabs a power-up [or it might just be the video].
Can you please confirm that, as well?
What did you like about Galaxy 2 that was missing in this? Very curious to hear your answer and see if my fears are founded or not.
The producer said in the dev video that it's supposed to be culmination of the best elements of every Mario game before it. Maybe they won't accomplish that but this is certainly supposed to be a full-on Mario. That's not to say there won't be another Mario after this with a greater emphasis on graphics.I figured it's just another game in the line of the spinoffs NSMB and 3D Land. I don't think it's actually taking the place of the mainline Mario games, is it?
i don't recall off the top of my head. i can check it out again tomorrow.

This may have been answered earlier in the thread, so I apologize if so, but does 3D World have a run button like 3D Land? And how does the character momentum feel compared to 3D Land? Mario in 3D Land felt really slow to me compared to Galaxy.
Thanks for the reply!i don't recall off the top of my head. i can check it out again tomorrow.

What is up with that cat suit?
Expansive hub worlds made sense back when they were novel and technically impressive, and also when I was coincidentally in middle school and had all the time in the world to kill in front of the TV.
These days I just prefer to get to the point.

I doubt this is going to be the galaxy of the wii u
I'll agree with this much. Didn't like it in Super Mario Bros. Liked it even less in New SMB where it works against searching for star coins. Won't like it here either.the timer is really annoying me. No Mario game ever has benefited from having a time limit in which to complete a level

This looks so good, especially the end.People complaining about this being a rehash of 3D Land need to watch the Developer Direct video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JooUqPF2Lf4
Tons of new features, including free camera ala Mario64. I also didn't realize before that each character has different attributes.
Game looks glorious.
Super Mario UniverseWe'll still get another 3D Mario for Wii U, so hopefully that one is the one they will be taking their time with.
I haven't played 3D Land, so this looks pretty interesting to me. And I'm sure there's also a Galaxy style Mario game in the works, they just want to get this one out first.
They might develop another one, or might have another in development, but atm this seems to be the 3D mario for Wii U. Why not?
Satoru Iwata said:Stereoscopic 3D came along and you were able to create a bridge between 2D Super Mario and 3D Super Mario. I can't wait to see with my own eyes how this game decreases people's resistance to 3D Super Mario and creates a bridge. Thank you very much for your time today.
Galaxy is finished. They have moved on from it. They have stated in interviews.
If you mean a more expansive, abstract Mario 3D mario game, then yes, they may have another being developed.
well in the 3D Land iwata asks interview, they seemed pretty clear that they saw Super Mario 3D Land as something different than a traditional game. here's a quote from
so wii u strategy
NSMB:U = introduction to platforming
SM 3D = bridge that audience into 3d
Mario Universe = true 3d?
looks like a sound product strategy to me
Man, the game really does look amazing in the Dev Direct on the Wii U eshop.

There's no need to check, I just checked the Developer Interview video. The game does "pause" when you grab power-up's.
Oh well, I'm still excited! It might not have been the Wii U Super Mario game I was expecting, but it looks to be a lot of fun.
I'll definitely purchase this one at launch.
