I wonder what the lore is like now that the game's been designated as XV. Have they moved away from the FNC mythos?

I'm not so sure I want FF to go to PC. On one hand I'd like that more people get to play it. On the other hand PC elitists and console elitists will go at it again and people would start saying 'PC version is SUPERIOR SUCK IT CONSOLE PEASANTS, THIS IS THE DEFINITIVE VERSION' like what happened with Dark Souls, even though the console base is what brought the game to success in the first place. Granted this may be the last gen of consoles so that wont' be an issue in time - but for now, I'd rather it not happen.

I suppose in the end it's just my being REALLY IRKED by the fact that some people will start screaming their superiority from the rooftops.

The trailer says "Fabula Nova Crystallis" at the beginning, so I'm guessing no. The bits about them seeing the light of dying souls is still the same, and it's right out of FNC lore.

He did the character designs for SQEX's iOS game Song Summoner, Moon Diver, and... Tekken...stuff? Nina Williams specifically?

Edit: And apparently Last Remnant

Old Tatsunoko animator who worked alongside Amano on stuff like Gatchaman and other projects

Also did designs for Moon Diver and Last Remnant

beaten, of course

Oh cool then. Looking at his past stuff not bad.

Everytime people mention Romeo & Juliet I die a little. It was Hamlet Nomura specifically mentioned when he spoke about the Shakespeare influence to the game. Of course that could change now but before R&J was not mentioned.

Of course I'm not surprised at a girl being made unrealistically attractive. Just the difference between her and Noctis.

See that's the point, they're equally attractive, Noctis (and most of the other characters) just has an unrealistic heroin addict skin complexion, for some reason.
Like someone that curated in hair and clothes, wouldn't use skin creams 24/7..

It certainly looks beautiful and I love the general art direction we're seeing thus far. Very much looking forward to seeing how it might look down the line as they fine tune everything. That whole thing with the Leviathan looks simply amazing.

Regarding what we were shown here, it does seem a bit rough in some areas. The little cinematics with your team mates helping out are cool, but having that happen constantly could become grating potentially. Though having the option to perhaps have their help in disarming an enemy like the Iron Giant is a nice thing to see.

The amount of teleporting did seem a bit much to my eyes, though it still is very cool to see. Still, I find it hard to imagine there won't be tactical uses of it that make simply spamming it seem not quite as efficient as if you were using it in a more strategic fashion.

I truly hope they give us little trailers like this showcasing aspects of the game such as more areas of combat to exploration and towns and such. They've finally debuted it to the public again and they should maintain that interest until release. I also want to know more on how the leveling system will work. Is it like KH where you gain some new abilities that you can choose to have active or not with each level gained?

And this may seem odd, but I'd like to know more about equipment as well. I'd imagine you can outfit Noctis with several different weapons in each type with different bonuses perhaps coming with each one.

On note of random plot musings:

Noctis and his father's abilities appear to stem from the crystal if I understand correctly. So what happens if the crystal is taken or destroyed? Does he simply become severely weakened or lose his abilities altogether, perhaps having to tap in his special l'Cie powers when the crystal isn't a source anymore?

I'm not sure where the scenes we've been shown in previous trailers take place in relation to what we're shown here. I'm leaning towards before this event myself.

Given the Hamlet homage, is it perhaps possible that the hooded guy we've seen Noctis have a confrontation with might be related to Stella? I'm basing this partly on that he seems to have blonde hair (which doesn't mean much admittedly) and that it would make for a parallel perhaps with Ophelia and her brother whose name I can't recall.

I wonder if they will have Noctis extremely powerful at the start to let you see how awesome his powers are and then be reduced to level 1 when the crystal is taken.

I'm getting a Game of Thrones vibe, the crystals being the iron throne in this case. Warring high-born houses. Fucking tight.

Neat. I'm avoiding watching the trailer so I don't overhype myself. This is the first time two different numbered FF titles share the same mythos.

Lulz, FFX is almost as much of a corridor walk as FFXIII, from a level design POV. Of course it WAS filled with some pretty horrible mini-games, I guess some people like to torture themselves.

Yes, and that reason was because all FNC games were labeled FFXIII games. Once that name was tainted by XIII & XIII-2, it never made much sense for a massive scale, ambitious FF like FFVsXIII to be associated with anything XIII. The game was always supposed to have the scope & ambition of a mainline FF game so why not just make it one? Because some narrow-minded fans might get butthurt of change?

FFXIII is like a really spacious version of FFX and I'm pretty sure most of the maps in the game include more off route diversions for treasure chests. I played FFX directly after FFXIII.

Type 0 isn't numbered but it's there.

Possessed Noctis!

I guess I just want to see a girl/woman character look like that too. >_>

Maybe it's the head on angle, but Noctis looks better to me in the picture posted on the prev. page than in the toll booth scene. Or maybe it's melanin.

Graphics are very good but the combat looks very button smashey. I hope that's not the case and the fights need more to win than just pressing A.

Wil you need to be familiar with the FFXIII story to play this one? Considering how it started out as Versus.

Not at all. There will be similar terms regarding the mythology but that's it. Plus the terms will probably mean different things here too.

stella looks pretty cute, tho she's no black haired girl. someone tell me if that black haired girl ever got a name mention.

Noctis looks so out of place though. his hair is so goddamn terrible. i hope there's haircut options so he can just sweep his hair back and get some swag back.

Just watched this; wow, am I impressed.

And if this is what PS4 graphics are like, sign me up on day one.

It looks like they're going all-in on destructible environments; while that adds realism, I like wandering around beautiful locations with inspiring architecture and won't enjoy it as much if there are burned police cars and toppled pillars all over the place.

Speaking of architecture, the city we're looking at seems to resemble Type-0's Milites quite a lot. I wonder if the same artwork was used for both and downscaled for the PSP.

So what kind of powers does Noctis have? He's teleporting all over the place, and also seems to be able to adhere to vertical walls. (That last one should be a fun fight.)

Saw a sign that said "9.15 Lucis"; who is Lucis again? Isn't Noctis' full name 'Noctis Lucis Caelum"?

I had almost thought that Agni's Philopsohy would end up being FFXV. I hope that that remains a separate IP and that a great game is made out of it. SE needs to break away from the FF name again.

Wil you need to be familiar with the FFXIII story to play this one? Considering how it started out as Versus.

No. Versus was suppose to be separate from FFXIII (thus why it was called Versus XIII). Different setting and plot. Same mythos: fabula novas crystallus (or whatever it's called) but everything else different.

Games aren't connected so no need to play XIII.

It never started that way. Square had ideas for FFXIII and decided to have a main numbered version as well as two different takes on the ideas they had with divergent gameplay. This version seems to feel a bit like Type 0, which probably means that Type 0 and Versus will share ideas that didn't make it into FFXIII.

In a way it's pretty cool, because it's a second and third chance to do these concepts right. Type 0 was fairly decent, so we can be hopeful about this too. Too bad they couldn't get the Cocoon/Pulse dynamic right the first time because I'm guessing that's exclusive to XIII.

Since it was lost in the rush and badly format I'm reposting the translated synopsis from the press release website for XV.

"The Lucis royal house and Niflheim military state have begun reconciliation efforts after a long cold war. During these efforts the Lucis family which have sworn an oath against the use of modern arms has their magical barriers attacked by the Niflheim military state. Noctis, the successor to the throne and future ruler of the kingdom is thrown into turmoil along with his friends."

Japanese love them Sasuke clone .

Yep I'm interested with the black haired girl as well , hope she get more appearance !

That gameplay video was awesome and a lot of fun. Combat seemed like a mixture of Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy XII and DMC/Bayonetta. I'm not complaining.

Enemies (especially the behemoth) and environments look really nice visually. But the visual design of Noctis and other human characters needs a facelift...they currently look high-end PS3 quality to me.

I'd guess that the crystal has given them powers for good (or at least for as long as the Crystal is intact), not that it's some kind of constant source of it that needs to be close at all times.

I'm not sure where the scenes we've been shown in previous trailers take place in relation to what we're shown here. I'm leaning towards before this event myself.
The game begins with the crystal getting stolen. Noctis' kingdom is signing a peace treaty with one of the other countries (which some parties outside AND possibly inside the country don't like) and while they are having a party to celebrate that, the city gets attacked. That's where the scenes from the 2011 trailer were (and I'd guess the field exploration & outside city stuff happen just after, when they are escaping the city/following on the trails of the crystal thieves).

I wonder if they will have Noctis extremely powerful at the start to let you see how awesome his powers are and then be reduced to level 1 when the crystal is taken.

I've been thinking this might be the case as it isn't uncommon for some games to let you have a taste of the power to come. Frequently I even see the player become more powerful than what you originally start out at.

I am curious then as to where his powers will be coming from with it being linked to the fal'Cie being my guess.

the game looks so much like the last remnant. will wait for pc version.

*after 50-70 years*

me: did it come out for pc yet?
my son/daughter: no dad.

*dies*

The best thing about this game is the characters are wearing real people clothes.

The clothes design in modern FF has been some embarrassing stuff.

Not like it at all that is has become heavily action focused. X is my last hope for a console JRPG, and that is even a bit action-y.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I do have a PC and use it for gaming, but it's mostly MMOs. Playing FF on consoles/handhelds has always felt right to me, so a shift to PC would be jarring. Perhaps it's habit.

What kind of idiotic selfish reason is that? Also 7, and 8 came to PC in the 90s.

She looks less mature and more like a generic anime girl... from one of the best designed woman she got dumped down to one of the most bland... =/

She has less of a prominent chin, giving her a softer look. Looks better now. Either way it'll depend on how she's written, anyways. Just hope it's not another damsel in distress.

Hmm, that would solve my question of how he could keep using the same kind of abilities if it gets taken away to a degree. But perhaps having it taken has some negative effect on his abilities where he isn't as powerful, though that factors into the same odd idea of it constantly needing to be around.

So, what we are seeing in these latest trailers and what is shown in the old ones is the same event and city?
