The gameplay looks janky has hell and the camera is a mess, the game needs a lot more development time looking at that gameplay trailer.

Yep it looks like Kindom hearts dream drop distance with the zapping around.

It'll probably have a lot more development time. I really don't expect this soon at all

I totally agree with this.

This looked like a mature and strong woman.

And hell that's from the 2011 vid, she looks a lot worse now.
The latest render.

Edit: It's hard to tell without seeing her in-game, but I think they made her somewhat younger. Noctis too.

Square is very weird in the "MAKE AS MANY ASSETS AS POSSIBLE I DONT CARE WHAT THEY ARE!!!! WE'LL FIGURE OUT GAMEPLAY LATER!...."

This game is still out another few years, it has plenty of time, and hopefully reaction will put the game in full development instead of the weird half dead/alive purgatory it been living in

Sure this game looks graphically very nice, but its all smoke and mirrors.
No it's not.

The one off animations are happening directly after cuts
Shocker, context sensitive actions are... CONTEXT SENSITIVE!

How is this game any different from FF13?
In every way?

I see corridors
You see hallways in buildings. It's hard to make those something else but corridors. The trailer already showed a massive map of one city and we know it's not the only one and that there are vast fields outside the cities that can be explored. Besides, people aren't basing all their hype on one trailer, but everything that Nomura has revealed of the game during the years (the possibility of airships & other more traditional features). Nomura described his aim on how he'd want Versus to be in the past and this trailer's combat looks exactly like his vision of the combat was early on, it's not too far-fetched to believe all the rest of the ambitious nature of this game is true as well.

one off big cinematics,
And this is a bad thing... how? Especially given that they are giving you control during a lot of those cinematic parts.

generic characters,
No, they aren't. It's a pretty diverse set of characters, from young to old, far from some generic ANIMUUU girls with more personality than generic bald western characters.

and a fighting system that is about mashing buttons to win.
It looks better than your beloved FFs where it's "whore out attack command 99,99999% of the time to win."

This isn't a return to what final fantasy was, it is a step further away.
It's not meant to be and it's GOOD that it isn't.

Which to me personally is not what I had hoped FF15 would be.
All I read in your whole post is "waah, waah, I fear change, waah, waah."

If you says so.
It just look like the second one has shittier, real time graphics, to me.

Warping is one of the menu based commands based on the UI. The swords and combats seems like FF13's ATB also going on the UI. What confusing me is the characters movement and the Party AI

The party AI will probably be like Kingdom Hearts as well, with contextual team attacks being usable through some sort of limit gauge. The triple tech that Noctis, Prompto and Gladiolus used to finish off the Iron Giant is probably one of those. There's a "Link Form" option at the bottom of the menu. I'm guessing that's got something to do with the multi-attacks.

In the last gameplay trailer, the player was able to switch characters mid-combo - I would assume that's still in the game as well.

I have no problem with this. I like being able to dodge attacks instead of just taking them head on. And that's coming from someone who played all the ATB Final Fantasy games. Just gets kinda lame sometimes being whisked away to a place you're not even standing at and then waiting your turn and taking hits. Really happy with something new.

I liked her original appearance better as well. But let's face it since when do appearances dictate the quality of a character ? I was expecting greatness from this one :

But instead she was a terrible sex object. This kind of female presentation angers me.Oh well let's not derail the thread.

The series has been bad precisely because of this direction. FF13 was pretty much a corridor walk. Before that FF12 and FFX are one of the best FF games ever made. You can't blame people for being disappointed when after waiting for like 7 years for the series to return to past glory we get a spin off Action game renamed to be FF15.

There was a reason FF Versus was not a mainline FF when it was announced.

Nomura promised Versus/XV to be more of a FF game than more of the recent FF games. This is open world (according to previous interviews) where you can travel by airship, cars, chocobo, and on foot. The sotry is centered around crystals again. The only difference is that the combat isn't turn based anymore which is obvious as to why it would disappoint fans but imo it was time to move on or at least wait till they get it right again which obvious they can't right now with how the XIII games are. It's better for Nomura to stick what he does best instead of going a different route.

I'm pretty sure that was expected since she was nude in some screenshots even before the game came out. :|

She looks more human in the latest render.
Could be just the better graphics, but for example the shape of her mouth is more peculiar, gives her personality, imo.

Of course they still have to fit into the "young attractive people" criteria, because it's Final Fantasy.

Lulz, FFX is almost as much of a corridor walk as FFXIII, from a level design POV. Of course it WAS filled with some pretty horrible mini-games, I guess some people like to torture themselves.

There was a reason FF Versus was not a mainline FF when it was announced.
Yes, and that reason was because all FNC games were labeled FFXIII games. Once that name was tainted by XIII & XIII-2, it never made much sense for a massive scale, ambitious FF like FFVsXIII to be associated with anything XIII. The game was always supposed to have the scope & ambition of a mainline FF game so why not just make it one? Because some narrow-minded fans might get butthurt of change?

And cause the game to be delayed even more?

No. Don't do this!!

This reminds me of how people thought Nomura would just fiddle around with the character designs because that one time, after not having any piece of news on the game, he showed us the costume for Noctis. It was displayed on a mannequin and everything at TGS. People raged.

I can see the gameplay argument. Seriously if you've played a far share of action games over the past decade, it isn't hard to get a decent guess on how a game 'feels' control wise just from watching character movement in a trailer that is presumably played by a human.

This game just does not look like a good controlling / playing game.

I feel like its queuing up moves like in crisis core or something that is really turned based but hidden with tons of transitions to scripted stuff without user control.

Need more footage and idea how gameplay works naturally.

I'm still LAUGHING at some people saying "I see corridors lolz!" I'm just like "wut?" Talk about selective viewing or, I dunno, being blind. Those parts were set in a building, duh there are corridors lmao. We've seen lots of huge open areas already. FF13 this will not be.

Also put me in the prefer older Stella look camp. She looks noticeably younger (looking) in her new render. Also a ton like Leanne from RoF. As long as she's a good character I don't really care though.

Putting Noctis' render next to Stella's, it's ridiculous how perfect they make her look. Of course she is probably supposed to be wearing makeup, but still. :\

Has anybody been able to get the red-eyed Berserk Noctis render out of the trailer? I thought it was interesting they snuck that in there.

Stella looks several years YOUNGER in that new render compared to her original design. I like the original design more...the new one looks a lot more anime, and that's sad.

Black haired bangs girl easily makes up for it though. I hope she doesn't die two hours into the game.

Prompto, I swear to god, if you shove Noctis aside one more time to get a point blank shot at half a meter, you're going to get hurt and it won't be by a monster. In the tiny amount of footage we've seen, he's done it at least three times.

Overall it doesn't look bad. Mostly reminds me of Dream Drop Distance at a larger scale with more quick time events. I hope the camera won't become an issue with how hectic it seems like it can be.

Finally watched this.....
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
@ Stella I like her latest render the most after comparing those pictures

Interesting. Cboat did mention that Microsoft went all out with the third-parties so that scenario could be a possibility. But I kind of feel that such decisions are not made hastily. If true, Sony should have been more aggressive. This game could have been a massive system seller.

In all honestly, with all the negative PR + online DRM for Microsoft, I doubt FFXV and KH3 will sell as much as FFXIII 360.

Plus FFXIII was still a "system seller" for PS3 even if it went multiplatform and I expect these 2 to be "system sellers". Weird I know but some games work like that.

Is this your first Final Fantasy JRPG?

But seriously, she lacks some skin complexion, but i really don't see the big deal, all the characters, included the old ass grandpas in the CG trailers look like super models, it's obvious the game aims to create a super glamour idealized world.
These CGi shots with weird skin complexions are actually quite strange, if you compare them with the actual game, where every character looks far more straight forwardly perfect.

Bottom line, i find all the other characters' render strange, as opposed to hers.

I think FFX, XII and XIII have excellent and very different combat systems. This just looks like an update on their Kingdom Hearts style action RPG. Maybe this will be an Action RPG that is as good as a straight up Action game, or at least have an interesting and tactical system that isn't just press button really fast to see cool stuff, but the track record of the genre isn't so hot.

That said - a name is a name. Vesus XIII didn't offend me, and this is that game. I'm just sad that their next big RPG's combat system looks completely uninteresting, and XVI is likely a long way off.

It certainly looks beautiful and I love the general art direction we're seeing thus far. Very much looking forward to seeing how it might look down the line as they fine tune everything. That whole thing with the Leviathan looks simply amazing.

Regarding what we were shown here, it does seem a bit rough in some areas. The little cinematics with your team mates helping out are cool, but having that happen constantly could become grating potentially. Though having the option to perhaps have their help in disarming an enemy like the Iron Giant is a nice thing to see.

The amount of teleporting did seem a bit much to my eyes, though it still is very cool to see. Still, I find it hard to imagine there won't be tactical uses of it that make simply spamming it seem not quite as efficient as if you were using it in a more strategic fashion.

I truly hope they give us little trailers like this showcasing aspects of the game such as more areas of combat to exploration and towns and such. They've finally debuted it to the public again and they should maintain that interest until release. I also want to know more on how the leveling system will work. Is it like KH where you gain some new abilities that you can choose to have active or not with each level gained?

And this may seem odd, but I'd like to know more about equipment as well. I'd imagine you can outfit Noctis with several different weapons in each type with different bonuses perhaps coming with each one.

On note of random plot musings:

Noctis and his father's abilities appear to stem from the crystal if I understand correctly. So what happens if the crystal is taken or destroyed? Does he simply become severely weakened or lose his abilities altogether, perhaps having to tap in his special l'Cie powers when the crystal isn't a source anymore?

I'm not sure where the scenes we've been shown in previous trailers take place in relation to what we're shown here. I'm leaning towards before this event myself.

Given the Hamlet homage, is it perhaps possible that the hooded guy we've seen Noctis have a confrontation with might be related to Stella? I'm basing this partly on that he seems to have blonde hair (which doesn't mean much admittedly) and that it would make for a parallel perhaps with Ophelia and her brother whose name I can't recall.

you think she looks what ?Too perfect compared to before ?

Of course I'm not surprised at a girl being made unrealistically attractive. Just the difference between her and Noctis.

dis is papa noctis tho

I'm pretty sure they're both Papa Noctis. ;)

Nomura said that Noctis and his father have the same powers. The red-eyed old man render is shown right before Papa Noctis' render, just like red-eyed berserk Noctis' render is shown right before his normal one.

I wonder what the lore is like now that the game's been designated as XV. Have they moved away from the FNC mythos?

I'm not so sure I want FF to go to PC. On one hand I'd like that more people get to play it. On the other hand PC elitists and console elitists will go at it again and people would start saying 'PC version is SUPERIOR SUCK IT CONSOLE PEASANTS, THIS IS THE DEFINITIVE VERSION' like what happened with Dark Souls, even though the console base is what brought the game to success in the first place. Granted this may be the last gen of consoles so that wont' be an issue in time - but for now, I'd rather it not happen.

I suppose in the end it's just my being REALLY IRKED by the fact that some people will start screaming their superiority from the rooftops.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I do have a PC and use it for gaming, but it's mostly MMOs. Playing FF on consoles/handhelds has always felt right to me, so a shift to PC would be jarring. Perhaps it's habit.

This past gen of games has made so many people paranoid about that kind of stuff going forward

Your post had me rolling though

Someone make a gif of the city, Noctis just stands there and the camera rotates to show the city. Looks amazing though they should of showed more exploration.
