This is the successor to Mario Galaxy.
i really doubt it is. i mean if you want to get into semantics, maybe. but even then you'd be suggesting Mario 3D Land was a succesor to Galaxy, since this is a direct sequel to 3D Land.
This is the successor to Mario Galaxy.
They have implied that the music isn't done yet, and it will be orchestrated
Thanks again for your attention in this matter.
Either way, it won't "break" the game for me, although I'd prefer it without the pause. It simply made some of the more precise platforming slightly more challenging, that is if you're playing with people who get hit a lot.![]()
Nintendo is a business and they need to do what is best for that business. Super Mario 3D Land spurred sales of the 3DS drastically, and its merge of 2D and 3D Mario games made it the fastest selling 3D Mario game to exist.

Oh, so much this. Keeping the 2D Mario elements and adding in multiplayer were things that should have been obvious to anyone paying attention. When it came on I was like 'Oh, great! They did it! And now ... Mario is a cat?'
Um, yes. Same developer, Producer, same Director (as Galaxy 2, anyway). This is it. Don't assume there's some hypothetical wet-dream-inducing Mario game in the works. Any thread on Retro or Donkey Kong from now until November (and beyond) will tell you why; you only set yourself up with disappointment. This is the successor. This is the new direction, at least for now.
Even if orchestrated the main theme would be horrible. Is bland abd repetive as hell, theres really not anything saving that theme. And the underworld stuff lazy. I would love if they were entirely removed in the final game but logically that will not be the case.
I bet Mario fans that are furries are on cloud nine right now.

People please understand Super Mario 3D World minus 3D = Super Mario World.
How is this game 2D?
How is this game 2D?
How is this game 2D?

I wish it was new. Maybe a team different than Galaxy is helming the next evolution of Mario for WiiU? It's not like Galaxy 3 would have been a proper Mario entry. It should be something totally new.
4 player 3d mario is totally new.
I loved SM3DL, but I'm not certain I want this.
I guess they need a 3D Mario game quickly because the Wii U isn't doing so well, so they decided on this 'quick fix' instead of being ambitious and going for the next step beyond one of the best games ever made, Super Mario Galaxy.
It's disappointing, but also very telling. Nintendo is REALLY struggling with HD development.
So this is the game that is supposed to save the Wii U?
I see...
i don't think this game looks rushed! everyone is fine with galaxy 2, but why not with "3d land 2"? its a logical step imo
it looks fantastic in motion and it will be a blast to play!

So no collecting stars like SM64, Sunshine and Galaxy. This a little disappointing. This is much like NSMB in 3d form. Plus it looks fun to play with others, but if you don't have any to play with some of the designs fall apart.
.......Nintendo needs to wake up and smell the shit because the causal gamer is gone forever from their systems. Wii was a word of mouth device and all those people have moved on to facebook games, mobile games and the others don't even like games. Why do they constantly try to get more people to play games? That is like me asking someone who doesnt like football to watch football. This bullshit of 3Dworld game is a prime example of Nintendo trying to get casuals back on their system. It is so obvious that Reggie even states that "Titles such as Donkey Kong, and New super Mario Bros, Wii fit all sold really well, that is why they are coming back"
They need to go after gamers, nostalgia, epic game design, full 3D worlds no more bullshit 2D safe games. I have been a Nintendo fan for as long as I remember (back in the NES days) and I cannot believe Nintendo is still grasping at the casual audience. It is like an ex girfriend breaking up with you and every once an awhile you ask her to come out with you , it'll be fun like old times..then she tells you " Listen I don't want to , I've moved on. Then you do it again and again.
UGGHHH.
Cause by that point Wii already got its mothership, fresh Mario game. Galaxy 2 wasn't the cosnole's lead, mainline Mario game. WiiU hasn't had that yet, and Nintendo's giving us yet another sequel instead of something new.
No. All of these games together will try to "save" Wii U.So this is the game that is supposed to save the Wii U?
I see...

I was hoping the first 3D Mario would blow me away on the Wii U, Mario 64 did with its open world and Galaxy did with its space theme, even Sunshine had a completely new setting for a Mario game. This doesn't look the killer app I was hoping.

Instead, you're collecting flags.
God this game looks boring! Nintendo is becoming fucking pathetic! Nintendo e3 direct was so boring. Was really looking forward to their presentation. *sigh*
What did you think of the other songs in the demos? It was hard to hear them but I thought they were better. I think the main theme sucks too
Super Mario 3D World is the first three-dimensional entry in the core platforming franchise with a multiplayer mode. After my ten minute hands-on demo with the title, I was left incensed, with a question burning in my mind: What the hell took them so long?
Everything, from level design to core gameplay, seemed tailored to make the game a much faster-paced affair than 3D Land. The light competition gives players impetus to move just a bit quicker than their cohorts. Running in the same direction for long enough gives you a boost of speed. Some new traversal elements lend themselves to haste as well; some pipes are now clear, allowing you to see your character as you shoot through them at high speed, changing direction to dodge foes and collect items. Rolling treadmills send players, enemies, items — anything that lands on them — soaring.
Each has the special trait granted to them, which they can utilize to bash enemies, hunt down the three stars hidden in each stage and compete to finish the level with a higher score than their compatriots. The game even rewards the high scorer with a crown that they can carry with them into the next stage.
It is, as you might imagine, pretty frantic. The camera does a decent job of scaling back to capture all four players' actions simultaneously, automatically moving any stragglers back into the action in a bubble in a manner similar to the 2D multiplayer Mario titles. When your four-player crew enters a new, unsullied part of the level and scatters to pillage its coins, the action can become a little Smash Bros.-esque, with thrown items (and thrown players) flying every which way.
Another neat, simple perk of playing co-op is when you pick up a Super Star, you can share your invulnerability with another player just by running up and touching them.
Metro said:Although the isometric view tends to be the most common the game happily alternates with side-on views, overhead views, and everything in-between. It can even have a more dynamic camera similar to the Galaxy games if you’re playing on your own (including using Off-TV Play).
