Why is it a waste? Whom would inherit Link's moveset then? You can't just completely overhaul a character's moveset randomly. Imagine Ryu starting to use Tae Bo and throwing volleyballs instead of Hadokens.
I don't understand the "wasted slot" logic in the slightest, ESPECIALLY considering we don't know how many characters the final roster will have, and which other characters we're going to see.
There's no "character slots". The devs decide which character style fits their gameplay idea and roll with it. Without Wii Fit Trainer, there would just be one less character.
And why do you think she is a "no-name"? The 2 Wii Fit titles almost sold over 40 million units together. Even alone, both Wii Fit titles sold TWICE as much as Brawl.
Wii Fit Trainer might not have been an "obvious" choice, but she perfectly fits the mold of Smash fighters.
I'd rather have Wii Fit Trainer as a unique and fresh character than another garbage generic ass Pokemon or Zelda character.
1) I didn't say Link's moveset would have to be completely "overhauled". I said, "refreshed". No one can or should replace Link, but switching up how some of his attacks look and feel is really fuckin important if you ask me. He's been in 3 smash games and he's still using the same majority of attacks. I know they've tweaked his moveset from game to game, but that's not what I'm arguing here. Why the hell didn't WW Link use the grapple hook, instead of the hookshot? Why didn't Young Link use the slingshot, instead of the bow? Why can't SSB4 have SS Link so that he could utilize SS Link's moveset? Instead of the hookshot again, he could use the Whip. This is just an example though. I have no idea if the Link in this game is going to have that attack, but I'll bet money that he won't. It's gonna be the same crap all over again.
2) Like I said in a previous post, the character count has already been decided to be the same as Brawl's. And of course they have to decide on how many characters they want to use in the game before creating them. I don't understand how the term "slots" isn't sufficient enough to get my point across. And how in the hell could anyone have guessed that WFG would've fit SSB's style? It's a fighting game. Yes, she's part of the more unique characters, but she doesn't "perfectly fit the mold of Smash fighters". So what if she's been featured in a game that's sold a zillion copies worldwide. That doesn't mean people want her. Jeezus. That's such a shallow reason to include her. If anything, they're including her in this game so Wii Fit somehow gains more popularity. It's all advertising.
And with that train of thought, ,might as well add Soap from COD, right? I mean, it's a popular title, why not? He'd bring a fresh take on the Smash fighting genre, right? What's the problem?
3) Daisy can fulfill the role of this no-name mannequin. If you didn't know, she's known as being a tomboy who loves sports. That's more than enough to replace WFG, but I'll take it a step further. Just imagine what her moveset could've been. The whole thing could've revolved around sports. Any and all kinds. Plus, she would've been a great female rep for the Mushroom Kingdom, right alongside of Peach. I guarantee you that the majority of people would vote her in over WFG.
And even if Daisy is somehow already featured in this game as a playable character, scrapping WFG and implementing someone else shouldn't be a problem. Look at how vast and colorful Nintendo's character library is alone... There are plenty others just as "unique and fresh" and more memorable than WFG. It DOESN'T have to be "another garbage generic ass Pokemon or Zelda character".
