...hate me...
Ehhh... Mario 64 DS played just fine, even with 360º movement. This one is 8-direction, should be even better. No analog controls in a 3D Mario is disgusting.

It borrows heavily from Super Mario World in terms of enemies. So this game borrows from Super Mario Bros 2 for the playable cast, Super Mario Bros 3 for some power-ups, World in name, NSMB for co-op and 3D Land for style. I love it.
Can you send some links? I couldn't really hear the music in the videos I watched.
This game better be in 1080P, Nintendo.
I'll take Delfino Plaza or Bianco Hills over the new stuff any day.
I'm not ragging on the music out of spite or something. As someone who views music as a hugely important part of the game experience and a composer myself, it's disheartening to me that the music for the newer Mario titles seems to be getting such a lazy treatment.
You'll take it and like it!
I'd take the blandness incarnate of the overworld theme of Windwaker over anything from Sunshine seriously.
and the Galaxy games are unplayable after playing the NSMB games, really boring.
At least 3D Land has something over the over 3D games, it's not as fuckingly boring.
Elaborate?and the Galaxy games are unplayable after playing the NSMB games, really boring.

I actually like the Ocean theme, but sure, Wind Waker had much better music all around.
And... that's where I bow out of this discussion.
Probably does, but in 8 direction only, in order to accommodate the lowest common denominator (bare Wiimote). The whole level design seems to revolve around that.Wait, does this game genuinely not use the stick for movement on the controllers that support it?
You're kidding, right?

I still dont understand why Nintendo can't make an online main series mario game. Mario Kart has it so why not this? it's been a couple of years since I've actually played local multiplayer with friends.

Nah, 3D Land uses 8 direction only also. It's designed that way to make it easier to control.
I don't think with a 3D platformer lag is as much of an issue since it doesn't require as much precision as with 2D platformers I understand.

Right then.
Fuck Nintendo. If they can't be bothered to make a game that actually takes advantage of their own fucking controller, they can fuck off. I'll be dodging this unless reviews are fucking sparkling.

Ridiculous.... Anyone who has a freaking wiimote has a nunchuk. If not than maybe they should freaking throw a damn wiimote+ninchuk into the box. Nintendo's controller mess is really annoying
And Galaxy 2 had more running than 3D World. Don't try to convince yourself otherwise. Galaxy 2 definitely has less platforming than 3D World.
No I'm not. The secret levels were the most platforming focused it was.
They confirmed you can use the pro controller.I really hope they allow the use of nunchucks. This is ridiculous lol. I really don't want to play an entire 3D Mario game with the gamepad. That thing is gigantic.
lol pmt bro
They confirmed you can use the pro controller.
This game could've been on the first Wii and the GameCube. Hell, Super Mario Sunshine and even Super Mario 64 are more advanced games than this. And I'm talking gameplay before I get pounced on for being a graphics whore.
Hey guys.
Hey, hey guys.
CONTROL MARIO IN A 3D SPACE WITH A WII REMOTE D-PAD.
*runs off*
What controller did you use when playing the game? When? When I asked them directly about it, they seemed a little dismayed that I asked, and said that they were "working on it." That doesn't sound like confirmation to me, though it had better be in there, or this game just is unplayable.
Guys, do me a solid and stop bringing up Sunshine.
That game is crap.
I updated my post to be more fair about it. I enjoyed it, but was ultimately so frustrated by the game's design that it was maybe the only Mario game I played so many hours and still didn't bother to 100%'d. Fucking blue coins IIRC.And I was just starting to think you were cool.
I'm gonna try out the Gamepad play today, but I can say with certainty that the 8-directional shit did not make it more playable on the d-pad.
From what I have played, this game controls terribly. I'm willing to put in more time to see, but this is the most disappointed I think I could possibly feel in a Nintendo product, and not just because it didn't wow me technically. Bad controls in a Mario game should absolutely never happen ever.

Also, it's not right that Mario should be powered-up almost 100% of the time with a jetpack.

Gelato Beach, Seriena Beach, the Hotel, the Theme park and the top portion of Pianta village are all rather 'flat' for a mario game. And pretty much every level in the game like Bianco Hills and Ricco Harbon (and massive series of narrow platforms). ?

not actual crap, just very sub-par for a Mario game
Show me proof the game is controlled in 8 directions, because so far I've seen none. All I'm seeing is people jumping to conclusions. A quick google search also tells me a rep said Pro controller support will be there, but reps aren't very trustworthy.

Nope. This is Mario now. Say goodbye to all the Sunshines and Galaxies and say hello to all the 3D Lands and New Super Mario Bros. It's pretty obvious this is what they want from the franchise. Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine were missteps.
