Metal Gear Solid V (PS3/360/PS4/XBO/Maybe PC) - Extended 9 minute E3 trailer

Ugh. I disagree wholeheartedly with your opinion. The boss battles were terrible. If you want a game with awesome boss battles, play MGS1 and 3.
Going to guess you don't play many character action titles if you consider the boss battles in MGR even close to terrible (this is factually incorrect, not defensible as an opinion).

But the issue is that Kojima should have made this decision in 2004, not in 2013. Hayter already played Big Boss in 3 MGS games. It makes no sense to change now, it made sense to change back then.

It makes perfect sense, actually. The fidelity of the graphics and the depth of the story, at this present moment, necessitates an actors performance.

But Hayter didn't voice Big Boss in
MGS4
. It isn't his character, as Solid Snake is undoubtedly his character.

Also, on the "I'm already a demon" line, it isn't terrible. Even without seeing Big Boss' face, and within the context of the discussion, it conveys 'How much more do I need to do? How much further can I fall?'. With a generic delivery the same line could be interpreted as "Well, let's fuck shit up, I'm already going to hell". A nuanced performance is a good thing.

So, anything Kiefer says makes you think of Jack Bauer? Cause he didn't talk like Jack Bauer.

In the trailer everything reminded me of Bauer, yeah. This will not be detrimental to my enjoyment of the game though, it's just a very weird decision.

Given his hatred for pretty much everything about MGR, the latter is certain.

MGS purists are funny to me. They hold this franchise where poop is a recurring theme in such high regard, but then look down upon a great game like Rising because it's ridiculous.
Good thing Kojima is on board for more Rising.

MGR's ray battle was the most amazing thing in MGR.

That and slicing gekkos, guess seeing Raiden doing a number on them in MGS4 and then me being able to do the same made me squeak like a little girl

The scariest thing is that PS3 footage from previous trailer, other than resolution, didn't look that much different or less impressive (if the trailer was really on PS3 hardware). Fox Engine is a crazy piece of work.
I think it was running on a PS3-like PC all this time. Probably visually it is going to look the same on next-gen but the framerate will of course be better on next-gen.

Ban this dude

Weren't you celebrating MGS3 a minute ago

And it's better this way then MGS4's "let me tell you a long sad story about this character. The badgers killed her family, she still hears the badgers in her sleep, laughing. The badgers..."

Celebrating MGS3 for the boss battles, clearly. You liked MGR's shitty boss battles? Alright, I guess you like shitty boss battles. To each his own.

Cool, you have an opinion. You liked it, I didn't. The bosses in MGR were either too easy, or too difficult. Nothing incredibly unique to them. Not to mention the characters themselves had zero depth.

Uh, each boss had a pretty different fighting style. What makes a boss battle ''unique''?

I'm just saying, you really can't bitch about character depth when you celebrating MGS3 and it's Cobra Unit.

But hey, I heard worse opinions.

With this recent MGS V trailer I originally thought the character line up was incredibly obscure, then I remembered the wasp master and a Soviet colonel who can generate electricity in MGS3.

The irony... I can't tell if you're serious or just bad at trolling.

Holy crap. I just realized who Emmerich reminds me of.

The time period is just right too (1984, around the time when Jobs looked like this, and also the year the first Macintosh was released). An intentional homage?
Even the subtitle, "A technocrat who stands his ground", makes sense. Steve Jobs was notoriously stubborn.

Edit: Bigger pic of Emmerich now.

I also figured out who Code Talker probably is thanks to the previous definition of Code Talkers that was given.

Vulcan Raven was born to Native Alaskan American and Inuit parents.[3] He had a large tattoo-like raven birthmark across his forehead and petroglyph tattoos covered his body. His body was able to withstand freezing temperatures.[4][5] Raven was raised as a shaman by his people, giving him shamanic intuition and spiritual abilities.

After that, he joined the Soviet special forces unit Vympel. After the fall of the Soviet Union, he was demoted along with other Vympel operatives following Boris Yeltsin's coup in 1993.[3] Raven decided to leave Russia and become a mercenary for hire, eventually joining Big Boss's mercenary dispatch company Outer Heaven. The destruction of Outer Heaven was FOXHOUND operative Solid Snake's first mission, but Raven and Snake did not meet on this occasion.

If Code Talker is indeed Indian, Raven is his grandson or son most likely. That info above also suggests Raven might be in MGS V.

Hayter's voice IMO breathed life into Snake's personality...I can understand Kojima going for different direction with Big Boss's voice and facial tech and everything but just listening to Sutherland's voice saying I'm already a demon was like...Well I can't explain well.

I agree. It's mostly because I am unfamiliar with Sutherland's voice, but I had a hard time telling when it was him or the other guy talking. They sounded very similar to me. I wouldn't have that problem if Hayter were voicing Big Boss again. I noticed Sutherland in the trailer and it wasn't for the better. It was distracting.

To be honest, I'd love to see some completely new characters and unrelated to the previous cast like Cécile, Amanda and Chico for a change.

This is absolutely brilliant if true!!!

How are people seeing a Steve Job comparison (with very, very little evidence or anything to go off of; not saying there couldn't be though) that seems fine, but when I bring up a book named Skull Face with racial issues by an author that has a character of the exact same name in two different series (that character's initials are SS), and who's mother fell into a long-term coma that she wasn't expected to wake up from, there's no correlation or interest?

Franchise means the whole series. Learn how to word shit properly.

He isn't saying the franchise is shit, he said people hold a franchise to a high level when a character getting diarrhea or pooping is a theme in some of the games.

Yes, MGS as a franchise has poop as a recurring theme. Do you not realize this? I'm not saying MGS as a franchise is poop, I'm saying there's poop in every single game. There was poop in MGS, when Johnny went to the bathroom. There was poop in MGS 2, when the seagull poop caused Raiden to fall and Johnny went to the bathroom twice. There was poop in MGS 3, when Johnny's father went to the bathroom. There was plenty of poop in MGS 4, where Akiba, formerly known as Johnny, kept shitting himself and/or at the weirdest places.

My point was, you people look down upon Rising as shit because it's ridiculous, but then hold a franchise that has poop as a recurring theme in high regard.

Lol, settle down guys! :P

You promised me that there would be a demo.

I think you just figured out the target audience for MGS games. :(

I know what he meant don't stick up for him.

I enjoyed the boss battles in rising.

I need to calm down.

I actually thought Ocelot's VA was more jarring than Kiefer's in the trailer, because he actually sounds too much like Keifer. I was actually confused for a second until I realized that was Ocelot and not Keifer. Didn't Ocelot's voice actor die or something? But I thought it was the Japanese VA. I know they used a different VA for MGS3 because he was so much younger in that game. I will say it was really jarring when Snake rescued Kaz in the trailer. I imagined Hayter saying the line and it sounded so much better in my head.

My big problem isn't so much with the switch in VA, as it is with the dialogue itself. I get that Keifer is doing the facial mocap stuff, but that whole beginning part sounded like typical Metal Gear. Now...Go out there and be a legend again or some such nonsense. None of the lines felt natural or what an actual person would say. That's no biggie, since I don't expect that from Metal Gear, which is my favorite franchise.

Also both MG:Rising and MGS3 are great. Rising is great as a pure Platinum character action game. The story is throwaway and I really can't stand Radien's voice actor, but it's fun and is designed to be replayable. MGS3 is my favorite in the franchise for both story and gameplay.

Why read Homer's Odyssey when you can watch Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief?
