Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Are we really having this discussion? I mean, with how many posts, how many times this has been discussed, how silly it actually is when you think about it, and how many Smash games have had all types of oddball characters, are we really trying to make sense of why a character's fighting style in Smash has to be the most logical thing in existence?
^

Not to mention SSB4 seems to be much sillier than Brawl is with the roster so far.

But in that video Sakurai also went out of the way to specifically state that the games will have different stages. To me that implies the roster will be the same since he didn't specifically say so like he did with stages. I think it's just a case of over thinking + poor wording. I'm almost positive the two versions will share the same roster.

That's true, but it's better to play it safe with their words.

I mean, it's kinda assumed. Especially if there's cross-platform play.

Yeah, pretty much.

Wasn't that Villager poster already revealed early yesterday?

Is the dojo not officially updating once per day, or is it? And if so, what time?

I think Sakurai is going to update Miiverse daily with a picture. I assume that it might be a countdown until New Dojo with new characters. (count those pictures someone)

Mr. GAW is here to stay.

If a character is unique, they stay. Sakurai is about gameplay variety first and foremost. Mr. GAW is Smash's only 2D sprite-based character, fighting with frames. He was in Melee and Brawl. He recently had his own attraction in Nintendo Land, and lends his series' namesake to Game & Wario. He's an integral part of Nintendo history, which is what Smash celebrates. And again, the dev team clearly loves him, as is evident from this whiteboard illustration they made at the onset of SSB4's development:

smash_bros_whiteboard.jpg

Exactly. I could say that all characters on the whiteboard are more likely to come back.

I thought it was very good comic. It made me little teary.

Made this gif of my favorite moment of footage shown so far.

ibbgtkfvjg3kwh.gif

Look so awesome

I'm surprised with a lot of anti-Little Mac. I hope that he will get confirmed so I can swim in pool of salty tears. WFT and Villagers are not enough, and just bring Pac-Man, Mii and Little Mac. Our pool will be full.

When has Smash Bros. viability been about actual fighting? Jigglypuff's been in every game in the series and her strongest attack is falling asleep on people.

You mean hyper beam/rest ? Besides Jigglypuff is a pokemon, so she fights other pokemon. Anyway i don't disagree with that statement. I just don't understand how you can say WFT is more viable than cpt falcon ?!? Because she practices yoga ?

I think the main element is how unique character X is and can they bring somehting new to the game.

Only character I really want. Please, Sakurai, please. :( It's not like you haven't put characters from barely popular games before.

...well, no, I guess he hasn't done that, actualy. FUCK

I want Isa and Katchi as an Ice Climbers type duo except dedicated to melee and zoning respectively with quick/snappy transitions between the two. The Ice Climbers "duality" concept is still so underutilized in this series.

That's what I think. People are saying how stupid different characters might be in their inclusion, but honestly I feel like Sakurai has done a really fine job on everyone and their movesets. Wii Fit Trainer and Villager feel just as natural as any other character, I don't see why people have to be so worked up about them.

I'd love a similar quick swapping team for Xenoblade peeps. Let me chain combos between Shulk, Fiora and Reyn Time.

I don't know what to think with this game. I want to like it so bad. Please don't be Brawl "2"...

And this thread is too much character begging/fan fiction for my taste. One day someone ought to make "Super Smash Bros discussion thread - no roster bullshit".

There isn't enough info to really get a discussion going though. Also characters are the biggest part of Smash so I think its fine to talk about it.

Somebody please explain to me why Snake deserves to stay in Smash Bros. even though Metal Gear Solid 5 is coming to literally every platform except the Wii U.

Well Twin Snakes is still exclusive. Ghost Babel was one of the highest rated GBC games. Also while the NES games were botched ports. In America Snakes introduction was done on the NES.

But I say screw all that noise. I hate this nonsense about every character needs to be some Nintendo museum piece and the like. He works as a left field character that still has some Nintendo ties. Ash had a pretty good point earlier.

Totally agreed. Snake being a traditional PlayStation character is part of his appeal. In a way, he is like a window to the non-Nintendo universe. If anything, having a rep for things not directly related to Nintendo is a good thing; and Snake was a good choice, because his Nintendo appearances are exactly the kind of appearances that create a special bond between a franchise and a company. We don't typically get "regular" MGS games, but when we do, we're in for a special treatment.

I think that along with Mega Man (friend), Sonic (rival), he makes a pretty good variety of third-party characters, as the "outsider".

Hahaha, Villager in Smash Bros.?

And he'll do what? Garden and pay off debts?

Just because you don't have the creativity to imagine a good move set doesn't mean it's not possible. :p

Hurr durr durr. I was asking a question. No point in just saying x character will be cool if you can't even come up with one move to back it up. I even came up with moves for the eShop shopping bag and that was a joke idea.

The villager is easy to come up with moves because he actually does things. And well Wii Fit Trainer has whole pages of moves.

So again I ask what would Skullkid do? Turn people into their child form?

Hopefully all the characters from Brawl will return.
Yes, even ROB...

Starting with their character models and movesets from brawl and sprucing them up should be easier than making a character from scratch, right?

I just wanted to show my support for Snake. It always bums me the amount of people who just want to throw him on the guillotine. He's the character that got me into Smash. Playing melee all I had at my disposle was DK....and I wasn't even good at him. Snake was the best ground to teach me smash and go back to melee and still be good at the game. Also I think he still has enough Nintendo connection and popularity to be a good fit for smash. Not to mention his left field status which is a good thing. He's a character that non Nintendo fans can play and then move onto the rest. That also goes vice versa. I know plenty of people who got into metal gear because of his inclusion in smash.

So I'm just saying I think its petty to hate on the character for not fitting into your idea of Nintendo history. He has his place and benefits being on the roster.

Also if he isn't making it to the new smash. I hope his move set isn't dropped. Said before it'll be a good fit for a advanced wars character

Fake Edit: I am so hyped for Wii Fit Trainer. Absolutely amazing addition to the roster.

If MGSV doesn't come to the WiiU then i could see him being dropped.

Somebody please explain to me why Snake deserves to stay in Smash Bros. even though Metal Gear Solid 5 is coming to literally every platform except the Wii U.

Because Nintendo's end of E3 megaton is MGS V for Wii U, Ghost Babel on the 3DS eshop as a 3D classic available today, and Snake in Smash 4.

not really

One of the things I love with the new game is the new animations and how crunchy and quick they look with the added effects. I dunno, I'm a sucker for small details like those. It makes the game somehow feel new enough despite being so subtle. I really want to play it.

I don't want anyone to go, but I honestly won't be crying if Snake doesn't return. He was a nice surprise in Brawl, but I really don't need him in SSB.

No idea, maybe because of MGS3 3D. But yeah, I'd like to see Travis Touchdown there, or Commander Video (this one will probably never happen, but it would be awesome anyway).

Well, considering that they basically invented a character for Captain Falcon in the original SSB, she's already got a lot more going on. Using things like the Hula Hoops and and yoga stances makes more sense for her than Captain Falcon being a secret pyromancer.

The thing with Snake is that, well, I see Smash as Nintendo's generationl self-celebration party. Mega Man absolutely makes sense, Sonic makes more sense than Snake because of Mario's rivalry with Sonic back in the day. Snake? Not really.

BTW absolutely not happening, but Ryu or Chun Li would be pretty awesome. They're gaming icons in the same way Mario or Mega Man are.

Well you'd kinda be wrong with that assumption, since Snake was asked to be put in by Kojima and Sakurai thought it was a good idea since Melee.

He has a damn evil magical mask on. He can do magic shit. His attacks could be very primal, chaotic, and juvenile in nature, he could do physical fighting moves with dark magic aura attacks. He could be very agile, sliding underneath people or leapfrogging people in a nimble, childish, manner. He could use his final boss form as his super form. He could use the stolen Ocarina of Time to slow people down or stop them in their tracks. This is after like 20 seconds of thinking.

With a development team and years to plan, it's not impossible by any means to design a good character from him, even if you have to extrapolate characteristics and be a bit abstract with the moveset.

They gave Ganondorf a completely physical moveset when all he has ever done is be intimidating, use a sword, and magic. I'm confident in Sakurai's team's ability to design good movesets.

what's the general consensus on the graphics so far?? my first thought was "fuck yeah, hd smash!" but I see some ppl on the boards saying that this game graphically was one of the most dissapointing nintendo e3 reveals. what do you think?

They avoided going their "Make more detail" route and instead decided to go for a polished, Pixar look. I don't know how I feel about that yet, but in motion it looks beautiful.

Snake should be switched out for Simon Belmont. He's a much more appropriate Konami rep and the last of the classic NES icons that's missing. His moveset wouldn't be all that hard to create and you get some badass music to boot.

I didn't buy it because it was on the Wii.

Yes. Such a missed opportunity if Simon Belmont doesn't make it with Mega Man and (obviously) Mario here.

We only need one person with a Whip/Chain

Which royally sucks since Sin & Punishment: Star Successor is the best validation for the Wiimote existing ever.

Edit: Am I the only person who enjoys both the nutty fan desire posts (not so much the "hurr we must validate why our reasoning of Sakurai's character selections/why X character should be booted out/why X character should be in is correct and as aggressively as possible" types) as well as general discussion on the gameplay and its direction?
