Only the demo of the game is that way. You can buy the entire game upfront for a set price if you want to.
Also Xuan Dou Zhi Wang has a 100% chance and is the future of fighting games and the best one released in years.

Still don't like the way it looks(Art direction and gameplay), but love the mechanics so far. I really hope MS changes its policy in the future, for the sake of the developers.

Wow. I don't know what I was expecting but this should allay any fears that these people don't know what they're doing. This + Titanfall (I like playing with a controller) could maybe sway me back to X1. That alone is crazy.
I love what they do with the sound through a long combo.
And I now feel like posting this gif in every KI thread because PARTICLES.
That looks really nice.

The particle effects do look really good. Looking forward to seeing different types of elemental hits and the different particle effects... Cinder vs Glacius in particular could have some interesting visuals.
Not sure if everyone saw it but Fulgore, Cinder and Spinal got confirmed earlier today. I agree though, looking forward to seeing how they all shape up.

The whole "purchase packages" thing has made me think they may forego retail disks. I haven't found one site that offers a retail version. If best, we might get a retail "card" to enable everything, but it's still too early to tell.
You realize people can have negative comments about a game and not because it's exclusive to one console right?

Isn't it digital only? Like there's a F2P demo where you can buy whatever you want and a full version but both are digital? I could be completely wrong here, but that's what I got out of it.

I am so glad you posted the link. The trailer they showed during the press conference was really short and other samples of the game were also short. 30minute is a very decent look at the game.
I can remember when the N64 came out. I rented the Console and Rented Killer Instinct Gold. One thing I notice with this game is the camera is really close to the characters and the stages aren't very wide. In KIGold the stages were Super Large. You could both back away and the camera would zoom out

I am shocked that in this fighter you have to purchase each extra character. If your playing against the AI you can see all the characters in the game but if you want to play with characters you have to purchase them seporately

They did this game such a disservice at the conference. It looks pretty amazing though. The idea of buying an Xbox One, Killer Instinct and a arcade stick makes me sick though. I refuse to drop that much cash in one go

I think you seriously overestimate hyperbole. The fact of the matter is people on the internet and do the opposite in real life. I guarentee at least 50% of the people moaning and groaning about X1 now will get caught up in the hype (especially if another big exclusive is shown between now and launch) and end up buying it in the first six months if not launch day itself. Second, despite all the Privacy and DRM concerns the fact is Americans love to talk about their rights but they really don't give a shit (see patriot act, Bush and Obama wiretaping policies, etc.)
The internet bitched to high heaven about the Xbox 360 saying it was just an incremental update, that they didn't care about gamers, that they wouldn't support it cuz they threw the xbox 1 under the bus in 3 years and guess what it had huge lines and sold out at launch and become the #1 HD console for this gen. Hell despite "599" and a lack of games even the PS3 was able to sell decently.
I just hope the people who do buy an Xbox 1 support Killer instinct. I know I will.

You can definitely see and feel the passion they have for the title, and their spirit and their enthusiasm really resemble those of some indie devs.
I really wish them the best, and as far as i can tell the project is surely looking SICK.
Two things i got to know (un)officially:
1) Cinder will be in there, i guess he will be the character announced at EVO
2) Riptor - or at least some other dinosaur like fighter - is in, FUCK YEAH (the dinosaur freak that's in me is happy... nextgen dino, bitches!)
Bonus stuff: they plan to have a VERY deep relationship with fans, with direct talks about the characters and stuff people want to see in game.

Oh and just another relevant detail... they are DEFINITELY giving attention to the characters and their backgrounds, with a lot of ideas behind their design (an element that reflects their experiences and history).
They hope to add a consistent story element (maybe through DLC), but the development times are pretty crazy as they started the project only one year ago.
