Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Okay, I get the problems with third party characters, but what's the deal with this? Nintendo OWNS Pokeymans!

Only half of it. Pokemon is a brand, and meticulous management of said brand is the reason it's been massively popular for over 15 years. This means EVERYTHING requires scrutiny- doubly so for IP usage by third-parties where a Game Freak/TPC member isn't necessarily on the dev team.

Superbot said similar things when explaining why Team Ico characters didn't make it into PSASBR.

Despite Nintendo and Sony owning the characters, it seems like they still need permissions from the actual creators. Perhaps a sign of respect.

Edit: Ah nevermind. Didn't know Pokemon was a special case.

All this character talk from sakurai is basically confirming snake is out of the picture. Ill hold some hope but the flame is quite dim at this point.

That is why there are no sengoku basarra characters in marvel 3. It seems the teams have the right to dictate which characters appear or do not appear and how they are presented. Which make sense , you gotta look your best, a cross over game is a fancy event.

Mega Man being stoic or whatever actually makes much sense considering he doesn't have any sentience whatsoever. Sure he could make some gestures, but those emotions would be fake.

Actually, They don't fully owned Pokemon. From what I heard, that Sakurai had hard time to deal with GameFreak and their Pokemon IP for Brawl.

Pokemon Company. I believe with Pokemon, Nintendo doesn't have full ownership of it.

Nintendo only owns the majority right?
I'm sure some contract Mumbo jumbo lets game freak throw some weight around.

Oh, I see. Didn't know that.

Pacman is so getting confirmed.

And I don't know, but I feel Sonic will not be in. He's putting so much emphasis on what an exception it is to add 3rd party characters that even if Sonic in upcoming Nintendo games I wouldn't be sure if he's still in the new Smash.

It would seem really strange for Sonic to be the center of a exclusive game deal and then not return for Smash. Hell, his stock with Nintendo has gone up since Brawl, he's done pretty well on their platforms.

Of course, Mega Man has been near nonexistent on Nintendo (and most consoles to be fair) recently, so who knows?

The Pokemon Company having a say in who's included is a good sign that Mewtwo is coming back along with a transformation move, since that's basically GenVI's equivalent to Lucario at this point.

That's super harsh, considering not even the Star Fox Assault design of Fox was given any favor.
If you read the article it isn't harsh at all. He was just saying there wouldn't be a sudden influx of Namco characters or given any special treatment. That's very reassuring to me. He didn't rule out Namco characters just that there wouldn't be special treatment and that third party characters are a rare thing and there is a lot of copyright and approval to go through of including a third party character

Peach
She has super stregnth, for some reason this is never touched upon in mario games.
Zelda
Super magic
Ness
He has psychic powers
Lucas
same for lucas
Kirby
super skrull
Ganondorf
Super powerful dimensional warping theif wizard

Peach? Don't you mean toad? Peach with more magic heart attacks is ok with me.

Mega Man will be Kirby with helmet, almost certainly.

Villager will probably just give Kirby his hair.

WFT... hair, I guess? Maybe color scheme, too? This one's a strange one.

Kirby should get a Wii Fit headband and wristbands when absorbing WFT!

One of the megaman games, he I think he almost kills DR.W I think after than he stopped giving a shit.

I think it was 7
Correct.

EDIT: Shadow Man'd

So "reduced" as in lowering a character's movesets or capabilities, as some suggested? I guess the statement is too vague to say one way or the other, but I would hope the 3DS version wouldn't impact the (better) Wii U version.

Can't a 3DS Cart hold like, 8GBs of data? IIRC, Brawl was roughly 7-8GB, and most of it was from the SSE cutscenes. If there isn't an SSE (and I really hope there isn't...), I wouldn't worry too much about limitations.

Holy shit, look at this part:

My inquiry about Namco Bandai characters did lead Sakurai to ask me a question in return - if I had to pick one character, which Namco Bandai character would I want in Super Smash Bros.? The answer seemed obvious to me - the original arcade version of Pac-Man. Sakurai then asked me what a Final Smash might look like for that, and we started to discuss how how Pac-Man could become super-powered, and chase other characters around a stage, attempting to eat them. It was a surreal discussion to say the least, but shows that Sakurai is always contemplating what else he might add to his projects, packing them full of as much content as possible.

Well I wonder since there is another Mewtwo form that hasn't been revealled yet.
I don't know about Wii Fit Trainer. She is faceless, but I think her enthusiasm for HARD WORK AND GUTS is obvious in her pantomime.
Samus and G&W are also faceless.

Everyone in mario land is actually pretty strong, peach has been noted to very strong though.

Maybe she likes mario to rescue her, maybe that is just their foreplay. Because she could break the fuck out bowsers castle easy. She has super strength magical levitation and magic.

Wait, speaking of the Pokemon Company, I could have sworn I read somewhere that it was just some shell corporation Nintendo created to handle all the bureaucratic issues dealing with Pokemon (since it was a huge brand by itself)?

the arcade version of pac man?

lol he will be the same size as Ridley, Ridley confirmed :D

i would have wanted the pac man world version, with arms and legs.
arcade version has no eyes or anything wakka wakka

the world version can throw fruits and keys and pellets, mega man clone

So I went back and watched the original E3 trailer for Brawl, that shit still gives me goosebumps. I may have to go back and start playing Brawl... Its been years since I've played it.

I can't wait for this new one to come out. I hope the soundtrack is as ridiculous as Brawls.

I dunno I like the current interpretation of Megaman and we still don't have enough to say that he won't be happy/quirky in the final game. At the very least, Sakurai and his team learned from the master in Hitoshi Ariga when it comes to making a "robotic but charming" incarnation of Megaman:

I assume the limitations are more on the hardware side. I don't think characters themselves use so much space on the cart.
