Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

No it means no Tekken like customization most likely.

I hope it means that, but still, him saying it costumes make characters less unique sounds like he is not too fond of making alt costumes either.

Tried doing a group sketch but it came out awful so I just focused on the easiest possible subject instead.

Didn't notice this before the new page, this looks super nice! I always have trouble with color design so always envious of people who can construct great pictures out of nothing *but* color.

Gen 1

(placeholder smash ball)

I need to keep adjusting colours. Orange flashy lights mean Bowser doesn't stand out anymore.

Both of them are amazing guys!

Which makes no sense considering Wario got a classic costume in Brawl. They don't have to go all out crazy, but if you have cases like Mario/Dr. Mario or Sonic/Classic Sonic where there's fairly popular alternate versions of a character who can literally be a model-swap I don't see the issue.

Don't give a shit. Clones are useless characters that to me scream lazy development. Can't make it into a full character? Make it into an alt costume, it'll have the same uses and not waste whatever time was put into making it into a clone that could have gone to something more productive. Unless the story behind the character is that he's a literal clone but has different moves (I think K' from SNK is supposed to be something like this?) then don't bother with putting him in. To me there's no argument that justifies a clone, the only clone I ever felt was acceptable was Luigi, but even now there's no point in him being a clone again when he has his own franchise and this entire marketing 'year' based around him.

Obviously it doesn't fast track some other character to be put into the roster, it's not a guarantee. I'd still rather have a smaller roster than one filled with unnecessary, unimaginative clones. It's awful, and before somebody from the hardcore fighting community comes in here to discuss how they aren't really clones because of different properties in their moves and whatnot. It doesn't matter. That only matters to the FGC of which there seems to be a large number who barely even consider Smash to be a real fighting game. To most of the other people, characters like Falco and Wolf are both clones of Fox, Ganondorf is a clone of C. Falcon, and Toon Link one of Link.

This gen more than any they have no excuses for clones. They have all the time they want to finish this game, they have Namco helping them, many of the characters have movesets which can be created or updated due to new game releases, they can even add them in later through DLC for fucks sake. So that bullshit argument about filling out a roster is done this gen. Clones in the new smash is just lazy game development.

EDIT: That comment on costumes is bullshit Sakurai. Different costumes can make an old character feel fresh again.

What? You literally accused Sakurai of laziness because instead of doing less, he did more in a different way. It's a ridiculous thing to complain about because you're basically making a criticism that applies to most fighting games. Adurr, Ken's a clone, how lame! Adurr, Scorpion is just a palette swap! No shit. It's a genre staple to reuse assets to make more content. In this case, it was a matter of the development team, in Melee, having only enough time to do some quick things. So, they chose to do clones. You're basically upset that they did that instead of "sitting on their hands until the game left for retailers". I for one will not get mad at Sakurai for doing something instead of nothing. I will revel in the fact that I got my Young Link in Melee, when I didn't like to play Link in Melee. Or that I got to play as Falco, who I prefer significantly over Fox. Or that I got Wolf, who is definitely "up there" for my favourite characters to play in Brawl.

Fact is, the list of people who will notice and care about clones "tarnishing" anything comprises you and some other people who complain about trivial things. Certainly not the fighting game community who sees this in all fighting games; certainly not consumers who look at "more" and don't grumble about how they would rather have less.

I would love this types of alts, 2 or 3 for each character would be amazing, and I think with a little imagination you can do for every one, even for kirby (making him the white one with black line cheeks instead of the color pink one for example).
Things like a real Daisy as a Peach alt would be also amazing.

We don't know that they're sacrificing characters because of the 3DS version yet.

Yea we don't know, but I think it won't be a problem. Worst case: Olimar maybe 1 or 2 pikmin short on the 3DS version or something.

This is relevant to my interests.

That is awesome. I was just thinking about how great it would be to have gifs to look at. lol

That's how I took it too but Sakurai can always change his mind. and I agree!

It was basically part of the same answer though, I don't think he suddenly changed subjects here.

He wouldn't elaborate on exactly what those customizations are, saying only that they won't be costumes and they won't be something that players have to unlock through repetitive tasks. Different costumes, he said, would take away from what makes each character unique. He also wanted to avoid boring, repetitive tasks, while Sora works to produce a "stress free, easy connectivity" between the two versions.

He says that different costumes would remove individuality to explain why he doesn't want to go with costume customization. I don't think that has anything to do with preset alternate outfits.

So from one of the articles in the op it seems there won't be any DLC or alternative costumes? That's really disappointing, if there's one game where I would gladly pay for additional content via DLC it's Smash. There's only one game per system and providing extra characters, stages and costumes would be a great way to keep the community healthy.

I do enjoy that we're under the weird assumption that Sakurai of all people would be stymied by the 3DS and would allow it to limit characters he wants.

It's not like his last 3DS game was packed with content or anything.

And they said WiiU looked the same like Brawl.

I wonder if Bowser will remain homeless in this game. There are two new Mario stages and neither is Bowser's Castle.

I always thought Bowser is a hobo, that the castles you attack are actually Peach's properties.

I don't get why people say that. Sakurai mentioned how the 3rd party characters needed special preparation and such, but I think there seems to be obviously special circumstances around Sonic again, with another Mario & Sonic game and the Wii U exclusives.

I'm talking just in a general sense.
With the Nintendo and Sega thing going on he should be fine. But still looks like in general we aren't going to see morethird party in the game. I'm betting PACMAN and sonic along with Megaman and that's it.

Tried doing a group sketch but it came out awful so I just focused on the easiest possible subject instead.

Love it.

So what are Megaman's moves again?

is it
neutral A/Air - mega buster
forward Air - razor
throw - arm
usmash - spark
dsmash - flame charge
fsmash - metal blade

B - charge buster
UB - rush coil
SB - crash
DB - leaf shield

or am I missing something?

Also I hope charge buster works like his games rather than in Smash where you can store it

So what? It's fun to speculating that if the deal actually went down in that way. They might have make deal with something in return.

It's aimless speculation though, which will lead to false hope and then whining when Ono realeases super street turbo fighter 5 2015 edition rather than nintendo vs capcom.

I mean if you're going to speculate, at least wait for somthing a bit more concrete. Each to their own I guess.

Some people were saying Metal Blade was B and Charge Buster was Forward Smash?

someone came up with list.

From the developer direct I think I have Mega Man for the most part figured out;

Jab: Mega Buster
Dash: Top Spin
Side Tilt: Mega Buster (can move and shoot)
Up Tilt: Mega Upper
Down Tilt: Slide
Side Smash: Charge Shot
Up Smash: Spark Shot
Down Smash: Flame Blast

Neutral Air: Mega Buster
Forward Air: Flame Sword
Back Air: Slash Claw
Up Air: ??? (only one I don't think we've seen)
Down Air: Hard Knuckle

Neutral Special: Metal Blade
Side Special: Crash Bomber
Up Special: Rush Coil
Down Special: Leaf Shield

Grab: Super Arm

And no Final Smash seen yet either I suppose.

I wonder if any other companies are going to get to include their characters in this.

Neku would be a cool inclusion from Square Enix.
3DS version exclusive TWEWY character and stage
yeah they'll probably not do exclusive characters but I can still dream that the game will be represented somehow

Ahh right, forgot that he has no Final Smash. And that guess is really good.

"- different costumes would take away from what makes each character unique"

Ah good old Nintendo logic there. That's disappointing.

Ah you again.

You forget that they used costume change on Wario. Essentially he is saying that customization akin to Tekken is something he won't do. He seems to be fine with costumes that are part of the character's repertoire (like say, giving Mario a doctor coat). And I fully agree with that, if only to prevent shit like "let's turn characters into alt costumes". Yeah, because seeing Zero using X skin as a alt costume was pretty fun and logical, right?

The IQ of the game is amazing.

Looking at the game models comparisons, I still think Brawl looks great and not far off of WiiU's models at all.

But looking at it in a way higher resolution, you would notice Brawl's models aren't as good as SSB4's.

I'm holding Wolf's hand until he is confirmed. I want that delicious Wolf in HD
with shirtless alt costume

Personally I am hoping that the clones are finally tossed out the window for the new Smash. I'll gladly take even one brand new character over Falco, Toon Link, and Wolf getting back in. Some might argue that they could just de-clone them with new moves, but if they're going to go to that much trouble they might as well just add someone who hasn't already been in the series. The only one I would see as the exception would be Ganondorf, who is important enough to Zelda to be worth giving a long-deserved overhaul.

At first I slightly disliked the artstyle, but seeing high quality pictures in non-choppy stream makes a world of difference. Especially Bowser looks amazing.

Cynics gonna cynic, even if it means flying in the face of precedents or developer intention. This is also further amplified since we're dealing with Smash Bros. This game brings the lint examiners out of everyone with how people over analyze and discern things from nothing.

I suggest watching the trailers (of any games) on the Wii U's eshop. They're much more clear and smooth than Youtube or whatever is showing.

There's nothing wrong with wanting him to be able to deliver the best possible version of a game without worrying about a lesser version possibly holding his overall vision back, especially when there is no real reason for the lesser version (It's not like the 3DS needs a sales boost or anything and like i said before the big draw of SSB is local multiplayer). As far as i can remember Sakurai's games have been for 1 console as opposed to SSBU + SSB3DS. There really isn't any precedent to fall back on for this.

Kinda worried Sonic might not return. I read that Mega Man was an exception and not to expect more 3 rd party characters...unless he is just trying to throw us off.

Just as with Brawl, I'm sure all of the game's details will trickle out slowly in the month's leading up to release. Unannounced features = marketing currency.

I wonder if what kind of style will we will receive the news?

Super Smash Bros Brawl Dojo style or Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 style?

SSBB Dojo - daily update (5 times per week)
UMVC3 - trailer, news, etc once per month or two

I just realized that the only one missing from the original 8 is Yoshi.

Yep, I suspected that he might be overhauled. Like Yarn Yoshi? or that silly rumor that he will carrying baby mario with him?

Really? I will give it a shot.

Same here, I would love to see Sonic, Mario, Mega Man and Donkey Kong battling it out.

Disappointing to hear there won't be any cross-play between the systems. That would've been the absolute icing on the cake, even if you couldn't use certain characters or stages.

I can't imagine how the two games are going to meaningfully interact now, though. If you can't design alt costumes and you can't have cross-play... what else is left? Is he going to implement a leveling system or something? I hope it's not something silly like trading stickers and trophies (it probably is).

I always thought Bowser is a hobo, that the castles you attack are actually Peach's properties.

So is he the one who fills them up with lava? And where does he get all that lava? How does he transport it?!

edit: there's no way Sonic isn't back. No way in hell. Not with the big Sonic exclusivity thing and all.

I could definitely see Sonic and Mega Man being the only two third party characters. Both really fit and make sense too, more than any other third party characters.

I'd be shocked if Sonic isn't back. There's no way Nintendo didn't negotiate for that to be a thing again considering they really made a big deal about Sonic and Mario's partnership in the Direct, as well as Mario & Sonic and Lost World being exclusives, plus a third mystery game.

My girlfriend really wants Bowser Jr. While I'm not holding out for more Mario characters I'd like to see either him or Waluigi.

I bet we get Neo Bowser City as a level this time, at least on Smash 3DS.

That would be nice. Finally give Bowser a stage of his own, and it'd be one that wouldn't be as "typical" as "Bowser Castle (insert value here)".

Anyway, on some levels, I'm hoping that Sakurai is not entirely truthful when it comes to "no DLC plans". If any series of Nintendo's was practically begging to have an long-lived DLC campaign, it's definitely Smash. So I'm hoping they do program the game to have adequate hooks.

I mean, the games always have long legs and are played for years on end. And Smash has never been a proponent of the typical fighting game trope of having an expansion released a year later and etc. Imagine if they were able to add on more characters, stages, and some semblance of re-balancing as time went on...
