Only played a few minutes before being disconnected, but severely disappointed for now. I'll try the actual fights to see if it's fun but probably won't do much.

Fantastic character creator i agree. And that music. So good. Too bad it kicked me out as soon as i finish my character creation. i hope it saved it.. Now i do not have a log in again

That's what happened to me. I hope it saved the creation.

I get a code, try to use it "code's region is not applicable." Makes no sense considering I registered for the beta on a US account. Made a new account, selected UK as region, code works fine. How dumb.

Typical first day server woes. This is the worst window too, prime time in JP, afternoon in EU and everyone in NA has woken up. So I'm glad I'm not at home trying to get on, just going to finish work and play later. Good luck to the rest of you :)

Seems like it is all down. I was able to create my char on Garuda (Rad Tageous), kinda wish I could play!

Yeah, it just hit me with an "All worlds are undergoing maintenance" message. At least now I know to quit trying.

It hurts a little extra because I was able to create a guy and enter the world this morning, but I had to leave within 5 minutes when they were restarted the servers. And now this.

Got the invite, so happy! I'll be home for the first time in 2 weeks today and so I've got all this to download tonight:

Uncharted 3
XCOM
ICO Collection
Kingdoms of Amalur
Demon Souls
Rayman Origins on the Vita

Damn...

I registered for the ps3 beta with 2 emails and got 2 codes. Would someone else be able to use it?

edit: Someone pmed me already and they'll get it if my cousin doesn't want it

Besides the logging issues, why are you severely disappointed?

Ugly, boring mess (but that's the tutorial/beginning part so I'll reserve my judgement) with invisible walls and still full of corridors. I kinda saw everything that's bad in JRPGs in twenty minutes.
If anything I feel like when I tried Rift for the first time, an urge to resubscribe to WoW.

Still, character models are cool and pretty and I kinda like the UI.

It took awhile, but I was finally able to start downloading the game. It seems it's going to be a couple of hours before it's done, though. I'm trying so hard to be patient.

I got a PS3 code, but when I punch it in, it says "The Prepaid Card code you entered is incorrect or is no longer valid"

Tried it both on the PS3 and the website.

Anyone know whats up?

So if I got an e-mail with a Beta Registration Code (XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX) and PlayStation 3 Promotion Code (XXXX-XXXX-XXXX), that means I only have access to the PS3 beta?

That's disappointing then.

I guess I lied, not time to dive in. "All worlds are undergoing maintenance" before I even finished going through the options menu.

Nope. Once you flag your account with the beta registration code, you'll be able to log in on PC too.

It's understandable if you think it's ugly, it's your opinion.

I don't understand how you consider the tutorial a boring mess, it takes you around town through quests showing you all the landmarks and explaining what's what, in a very simple and straightforward way.

If by invisible walls you mean right at the beginning when you can't go to other areas unless you talk to a couple of NPCs first, well that's just for about 5 minutes, or 7 if you are an slow reader. No idea what city you were on, but that doesn't matter, just leave the city and the corridors are gone.

Ugly but you like WoW artstyle?
Does not compute.

Did you get out of the city?...no corridors there. Seems like you're being pretty quick to shitting in the game.

Uh...he meant ARR's combat. XD

And I'm about to be able to answer his question when I log in. This will be their last chance to un-botch that ARR battle system for me, if it's still just skill spamming I'm out.

oh (.__. )

@Aeana you white mage? Or scholar?

Got a PS3 invite this morning in my email, pretty excited! I didn't play XI or the original XIV. This will actually be my first experience with an MMORPG.

NA/EU data center is giving problems, the NA/EU Worlds weren't showing on the World List for most people, only the JP ones. I guess it's good that this is happening right now so they can sort all the problems with the data center before the 1.0 characters are accessible next week.

I wasn't going to respond to that post, but yeah, agreed. The comment about JRPGs leads me to believe that this just isn't the game for him/her. Nothing wrong with that. The tutorial however is absolutely not a mess (perhaps boring) and once you step outside the city gates there are virtually no limits. You won't be scaling mountains like Skyrim but the world is very open.

Oh hell yeah, I got in. This process seems like it's going slowly but I am linking my PSN and Square Enix IDs right now.

Fastest boot time to judgment of a MMO ever.

OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT!

Why does it start the day The Last of Us drops. :(

Good news! Last of Us has an auto-save glitch so you shouldn't play it until it's patched.

I'm glade I'm not at home right now. Hopefully NA/EU server problems will be sorted out once I leave work (yay for 1/2 day Fridays). Made my pug on adamantoise, but will make a new one on Ultros.

I'm in Granadia (?) and by boring I mostly meant the dialogue and the slowness of things. I don't skip, maybe that's my problem
In any case in this city I quickly met a barrier I couldn't jump (near the archer's guild I think) and another invisible wall before that, so I felt underwhelmed by that quickly. I imagine open zones are different, but still ;(

What I meant is I expected something else than a slower WoW starting experience with less freedom/fun, but that's probably my fault.

I've played both phase 1/2 betas and I have no idea what people are talking about when they mean "corridors". If you want corridors look at 1.0 gridinia/black shroud, ARR is nothing like that. Either way can't wait to get home so I can go to the other cities.

Got my PS3 code to work. Had to sign out of my Canadian account and into a USA account for the code to actually redeem.

Edit:

キタ━━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━━━ッ

Archers sure do have some odd animations with their skills. I think Uldah is busted cause I can't log my other character in.

Don't let them fool you. Even the normal zones are still more walled off then other more open games you may be use to. Just something we have to deal with it seems.

So I got into the beta, but every time I try and enter the Beta registration code it comes up with this:

The code's region is inapplicable.
You can only enter codes from the same region as your Square Enix account.

I don't understand. Anyone else had this problem?

When it comes to logging in I see A Square Enix ID, password, and one-time password field. What's up with the one-time password? Every time I attempt to log in I'm told either my login ID or password are incorrect...

haha wow this is downloading very slow on PS3. Not much of a shocker but it better finish before my copy of Last of Us gets here.

They put a lot of emphasis on the tutorial and introducing concepts to players gradually and slowly because FFXIV 1.0 didn't do any of these things and it was confusing for many players. They received a lot of criticism for that (among a mountain of other complaints).

They also understand that a lot of players (especially on PS3) that are trying this will be completely new to MMOs, so they have to be considerate about just dumping those players into the world to fend for themselves.

I got into the game, was watching the first scenes and really getting into it, and then cut to black > save > still black.

Nooooo. Might just go to sleep and wake up early tomorrow to play the whole day. If it works, that is.
