Yeah, it's not GTA but is neither XIII corridor style
The tutorial is slow, you have lot's of small quests to show you all important places and for tutorial reasons. But is not like they're limiting you that hard. You can skip them and go directly to kill things as soon you complete the first main quest.
You also can use "sprint" that give you a speed boost in movement and teleport to the different aerthytes making traveling around the city very fast...
One Time Password is for the FFXI/CE FFXIV 1.0 authenticator.
I love how the "Preorder now!" banner is a wave of Magitek armor if set to English, and the old key visual of a party chilling out in a pub if set to Japanese.

I was referring to other more open mmorpgs. It is a negative point of the game, but doesn't make the game bad.

Day 1 of Phase 3. Best this gets tested and worked around for Phase 4 when things open up. And not to mention most players that are in are probably working. Wait till the evening :/

I think US/EU servers are having issues. Character selects will work here and there but can't log in at all. Guess we have to have patience.
Oh and seeing my latency with up and down of 50 is godlike.

one thing i'd like to point out to 1st timers, 1st thing you should do on your city is to unlock all the aetheryte shards, it's shown as a mini aetheryte crystals on the map if you press m
you'll know you have unlocked all the shards in the city if you receive a notification saying you have done so and they'll give you 3 gates automatically unlocked
i think each city has around 7-8 shards total

Hah, same. I signed up for the PS3 beta way back in September 2010 and downloaded the video on PSN like 5 times just to make sure lol. Been refreshing my e-mail like a mad man over breakfast.

Depends on your subscription. Entree is one per server. Normal up to 8 ( I believe ) per server.

8 characters, only one for each world. At least in the beta. There's an option to make 40 characters, until 8 for each world in the final game if you're willing to pay a bit more.

It's based on class. Because each class has it's own respective guild that are featured in the different cities.
What do I have to make to get to Ul'dah?

It tells you when you select your class. Gladiator, Pugilist, and Thaumaturge are Ul'dah.
