Marth: Pretty much permanently the face of the franchise in Smash because of seniority as the first main character and being a cornerstone in the game from Melee onward.

Chrom + Lucina: The new hotness. Duo'd up to play off of their relationship within Fire Emblem Awakening, one of the defining mechanics in the game (the double arts/offense), and to further explore the Ice Climbers "duality" concept in the roster because let's be honest, that gimmick has WAY more potential that isn't being used currently.

Tharja: An alternative to the mandatory Fire Emblem "sword dudes/dudettes 'r us" that everyone expects. Brings another fun female into the mix and magic based gameplay which can lead to takes better or more alternative than Zelda who is pretty much the only other character in the previous rosters that uses magic.



Fuck arrow dudes.

It's always been the one thing that makes Falco dominant in both games. It controls space and the pace of the match itself; Falco controls the tempo and can change it in any way he wants. And a lot of it is because you can't clank the laser out like other projectiles in the game. Another part of it is the distance it covers.

Walugi's popularity and likeability is only due to the fact that the other Mario characters have been used repeatedly and we are familiar with them. His ability to be the more boring character possible in almost any medium is palpable. He is what happens when Nintendo execs get bored and the only possible thing they can imagine is a clone of Wario but with a thick coating of shitty Luigi paint. People like Waluigi in the same vein that people like crummy acoustic ukulele female singer songwriters.

It's totally fine if you feel like nothing there appeals to you, but don't try to suggest that nothing else is worth the time when these all have decent numbers of people who look on them fondly.

How is Villager bottom of the barrel, exactly? Or Wii Fit Trainer? Sure, I'll silently cry if there is no Iaasic or Shulk or Paper Mario for that matter (or any other character that I personally love), but both of those characters represent huge nintendo franchises. Thinking out of the box is perfect.

The only thing I find weird is that they announce Wii Fit trainer so early. She seems more like a surprise/ WTF character and I would think you'd hold off on showing her. No big though. Her moveset looks awesome.

Same with villager. I want to try out villager so bad.

I don't see anyone for the new Smash (other than Megaman who's already announced) where people say "finally" or "it took long enough"

It's weird because I had no idea Ganon was even considered bad till I checked the tier list a couple years ago. The "too big" argument never made any sense to me. It's just a bad excuse for "I don't want him in over _____." Smash Bros is a fan service game that makes tons of concessions to get things to work. And making Ridley work would not be difficult.

Less characters, but every one of them original. And better balance.

Nope, but we've seen two of them already and their both going with the same design they've had since Brawl. And we already know Smash Balls are returning via the promotional poster that was posted a few days ago. Whether or not the randomness of how the Smash Ball moves around the stage will be axed isn't known.

Honestly, there's not much point in saying "this character couldn't work", or "this character doesn't deserve to be in". If Wii Fit Trainer is in, all bets are off, really. If a character would be fun to play as, I say "why not"!
