Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

I would agree. Here is another video. I think the motion is a bit better than the previous videos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm6WAIrOuo8

not sure if it's because youtube or my firefox not but there are huge framerate drops here.

and reposting this.
For those wondering: there will be a public BETA for Killzone Mercenary, will be detailed later.
Q. Will there be a multiplayer Public Beta?

A. Yes, more details following at a later date.

http://thevitalounge.com/new-killzone-mercenary-screens-and-trailer/

so i booted up the jak & daxter collection last night. i could only play for literally 30 seconds and then something came up. the framerate was low, but it's not anything like ratchet. it was 100% stable from what i played. i'll have to play more to see if the framerate makes it difficult to play. i literally just had the chance to walk around a little bit and do some moves like jumping/attacking and collecting eggs.

the game looked very pretty though (subres, for those wondering).

Keep us posted. Absolute SHAME it's not 60fps. I would have pre-ordered it by now if that had been the case.

is the game not supposed to be out this week? it seems odd that i haven't heard anyone mention playing it.

i will definitely update you guys. i might not be able to play tonight but i will play it tomorrow and start up all 3 games in the collection.

Well, somebody took videos of it at E3 and reviewers have the game but there's an embargo until the 18th. Can't say anything.

Please test out the original Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy the most and report on the framerate throughout if you don't mind. It would be appreciated. :)

i will definitely do that. i haven't played through any of the games before, so i don't really want to spoil things by playing too much of the second and third games. i'll just play them for a little bit to see if there is an immediate noticeable difference in how they perform.

So after E3, I think it's right time to say that western 3rd party support on Vita is completely dead and wont be back, it's over.

Now Vita is left with indie games that no one care about, but this can be fixed and Vita can at least the higher quality indie games (stuff like DayZ or games from Supergiant and Klei) I think Sony should at least try to bring these "higher quality" and bigger sized indie games (there are many just see Greenlight) to Vita instead of the pure crap we are getting right now, also Sony need to copy Microsoft and handle the ports themselves because these indie developers don't have the time to do that.

...

on other note, from e3 videos Tearaway look way more fun than Knack (biggest disappointment of E3 imho) MM need to drop their zbrush project and make a full 3d platformer in the future.

According to those that have played, there are frame drops. Whether its "huge", I don't know.

well this confirm it then, the drops in video are really unacceptable, and that area is in the very beginning so I don't even want to see the other big area.

Guys, Patapon 2 is super addictive (and crazy difficult on "Normal"). If you're in EU land make sure to pick it up while it's on sale.

On another note, to follow up my previous E3 hype post, the final score is 175. < Not at all indicative to how I feel about the Vita's E3 since it had a really strong floor presence. I'd say I'm about as happy with where the Vita is at, as I was before E3 (okay, maybe just a little less).

While I agree with some of the things you've said, I'm pretty happy with the lineup of games coming. Sure, I wish more western games/devs would be coming, but it's whatever at this point.

I really wish Sony would push more of their western studios to work on Vita projects. Shuhei teased Sony Bend working on something "really, really cool" on the E3 Podcast Beyond episode so I hope it's a Vita game and that they show it off at Gamescom or whatever.

I know, I know, I'm just moving goalposts again and I'm probably gonna get let down again but I just keep focusing on what we're getting - great games. If support dies down to NOTHING but indies, then we should worry.

Also, Shuhei mentioned two Sony published/developed games for Vita that I didn't catch - can anyone who listens to Podcast Beyond verify what they are? I'm going to relisten to it ... I think he mentioned the Japanese name of the first game but the second one he didn't mention the name at all. Not sure if that was a slip or if it was a game that was announced with like no gameplay/art.

He definitely mentioned Freedom Wars though, but what confuses me is that he said he "hopes it will make it to the West" ... a game that awesome has to be considered for localization??

32gb card is 54.99 in sainsbury for UK guys

so $90 dollars ..that a sale how much it was before in the UK?

these overpriced cards need a huge price cut.

Shu dropped the ball in supporting Vita during it's first year, now it's just too late for that now they have PS4 that need all SCEWW studios, because PS4 lack the third party exclusives (look this PS4 showing at e3 it was multiplat :the Show) so Vita will get even less from them from now on.

and I really think Bend should just jump to PS4 at this point, Sorry I like Vita and all. but after this E3 Vita has no future ahead of it and to let Bend die because they force them on Vita will be sad.

He definitely mentioned Freedom Wars though, but what confuses me is that he said he "hopes it will make it to the West"

when SCE software boss just "hope" like any random fan then this is really bad.

Prices of 32GB cards are all over the place in the UK. Some places sell them for £60, some up to £75.

Places like Amazon usually do them for £55-60, though, so it's not much of a sale lol.

Honestly, I would not even really care about not getting many third party games (not that I wouldn't LIKE them) if Sony just put some first party muscle in, like we saw at launch. I LOVE Sony's first party games. Tearaway and Killzone both look INCREDIBLE, and it just makes me sad that we aren't seeing more of that. Those two games were officially announced in August of last year. Why on earth haven't we heard more about some western first party Vita games by now? I love these indie games but for me they are only supplementary.

lol. well hopefully there is a price cut or something this holiday season.

again it's just too late for Sony first party support on Vita, now first party studios will focus on PS4 from now on because PS4 will need all and every studio of them seeing how Microsoft getting big exclusives for Xbox one more than Sony so they'll need to cover that front if they want to sell more than Xbox One.

You can blame Shu Yoshida for this (really, I know people like the guy but he is the one to blame here), he just wasted two years of Vita (the pre-release year and Vita first year) because he put half of the studio behind PS3 mostly even when PS3 was running on very strong third party support and don't really need the first party support.

I don't get it, Sony is literally the only one putting games out for the system and the issue is... we need more of those first party titles? I think the problem is Vita has ZERO support from Capcom, Square-Enix, very little from anyone else (Konami, Namco, Rockstar, you name it). Sony's efforts software-wise would be perfectly fine if third parties didn't abandon the ship before it even sailed. They must have figured it's just way easier to develop games at shitty resolution for the 3DS.
If Sony has a fault, it's the lack of marketing and of agreements with third parties for making them jump on Vita. With keeping the PS3 alive till the very end (something MS and Nintendo never did with the 360 and Wii, terrible way to thank your faithful user base if you ask me) and preparing the ground for PS4 launch AND thinking about Vita's first party support I guess Sony's hands are very full at the moment. There's only a finite number of teams, every one of them is busy in a different project, they're not scratching their bellies.

Well, when talking about Bend, he did say their new game will "play to their strengths", which in more recent history has been handheld games. I think that was about all he could say about them though.

The bit about Freedom Wars is really frustrating because it looks amazing, but it's probably up to higher up suits to make the decision to localize it. I think it's just a decision that is out of his hands, you know? Still, the fact that he said that only creates worry about the title coming worldwide. I don't think it will have issues coming over, but a full western unveiling of Freedom Wars at E3 would have been killer. It looks awesome and people outside of Japan/hardcore Vita audience have no idea what it's about, or if it even exists.

I'm just trying to figure out what the hell the other two games he was talking about were, he sounded really excited about both. I think one might have been that Over My Dead Body sequel? The third game was a game that is a sequel or reboot of a game from the PS1 era that people played for like 10 years? That it was crazy deep like Demon's Souls? (those were his words). No it isn't. They can put more first party games on there whenever they want to. The system is only a little over a year old. They can announce new titles, put a price drop, and re-market it whenever they feel like it. I just hope they do it sooner rather than later.

Sony has announced ONE Western first party game since August 2012 (the last time that there were Vita game announcements - KZ and Tearaway). And that game is Invizimals of all things. If you think Sony is giving the Vita enough first-party effort, then you're simply wrong. We only KNOW of five first party original titles in general that haven't released yet - KZ, Tearaway, Invizimals, Freedom Wars, and Destiny of Spirits (one of the worst looking games I've ever seen).

What Sony games? the super old PS2 port? that F2P game? that game from their smallest studios (or even worse small team within a small studio)? that not real support.

and the Japanese third party support is gone because of how well Nintendo played their card in the past two years with 3DS and how bad Sony let all PSP biggest games gone to other place while they refused to do anything, now these big Japanese publishers you mentioned in your post just don't need to put anything on Vita since for them it's waste of time and money.

It's not about how old Vita is, it's about Sony's top priority now, and that is PS4 as the console they need to save their entire business and they don't have too many studios or resources to waste on a platform that have almost zero third party support as of now.

So I guess the vita is now a dead(or should I say undead because of PS$ remote play) platform? Sony showed nothing new for the vita at E3, pretty much solidifying its status as the system of the struggle.

I was hard on Nintendo over the first 1.5 years of the 3DS life cycle, because there wasn't shit for it, but they turned it around with game announcements within the first year or so and now the games are finally here. Vita seems to have gotten 0 attention from sony after their great initial launch.

Which Vita games are on sale right now?

Also Vita is having a crap line-up coming to MY tastes unfortunately. Indie games and smaller games are okay in my book - I love them on many platforms - but I'm daunted at the lack of retail games. Yes I'm getting Killzone but that's it.

I give Sony the rest of the year to announce cool stuff and I think it could come around GamesCom. Anyway, I'm fine for the year. I haven't completed Persona 4, haven't gotten VLR yet and Jak & Daxter and Killzone are coming.

I said it once ill say it again-

If there isn't anything at gamescom then yeah, Sony may as well not care. But for now it's just in life support.

Gamescom has always been a more game oriented show and the place Sony would announce stuff not massive

What Sony games? the super old PS2 port? that F2P game? that game from their smallest studios (or even worse small team within a small studio)? that not real support.
Uncharted, LBP, Gravity Rush, All Stars whatever, Soul Sacrifice, Lumines, Wipeout, Minna no golf, Sly cooper, Jak and dexter, Killzone, Motorstorm, Tearaway plus a fuckload of psn titles and minor/bad titles I can't be bothered to list. I think that's plenty for two years of life.
Now imagine how big Vita's library would be if everyone of the publishers and their teams I mentioned put out at least half of the games Sony is trying to put out in these first two year.

and the Japanese third party support is gone because of how well Nintendo played their card in the past two years with 3DS and how bad Sony let all PSP biggest games gone to other place while they refused to do anything, now these big Japanese publishers you mentioned in your post just don't need to put anything on Vita since for them it's waste of time and money.
That's why console makers usually make agreements and exclusives of some kind with third parties. It's evident Sony failed in this or didn't even bother, designing only the hardware of this system and totally ignoring the software side before the system came out. Then they rushed to develop a lot of first titles but didn't bother to try and get the third parties on board in any way. I think they hoped third parties would come in flocks begging to develop for the most powerful system, except today it's the other way around: publishers want developers to work on the least powerful systems so they can cut on development costs. Also the success of every single previous nintendo handheld kinda helped the 3DS.

Last year we only got Teraway from Gamescom. that like one game.

I honestly don't think anything will change about Vita fate, not in gamescom and not in TGS, outside of the indies there is nothing now from third party, even Vita announcements in Japanese magazines like Famitsu are like a rare astronomical events.

just look at Vita holiday Bundle, it's The Walking Dead with the new DLC, this mean there is nothing they wanted to save for later this year. They needed this year (not next year and not 2015) to do something and they didn't.

I think Sony will have its "Vitastudios".
BEND, Guerilla Cambridge, one of the MediaMolecule teams, two of the StudioJapan teams and maybe one or two more.
So they can at least put out 2-3 big 1st party titles a year.

@Toto: Its never to late. They just need release exclusive GTA and Monsterhunter for the Vita and it will sell well.

The problem is they showed nothing new at the presser, they only mentioned a few ports and such. No demos on the stage. All they needed to do was do a demo of KZ: Merc, or even better, Freedom Wars, you know?

He definitely mentioned Freedom Wars though, but what confuses me is that he said he "hopes it will make it to the West" ... a game that awesome has to be considered for localization??
I would assume it's up to SCEA and SCEE publishing divisions to decide what to do with the game. They both passed on Demon's Souls if you recall, and I believe only SCEE published the White Knight Chronicles PSP game.

Sony has announced ONE Western first party game since August 2012 (the last time that there were Vita game announcements - KZ and Tearaway).
I assume you only mean retail titles, and no late ports, but even then you missed MLB 13 in December 12.

And that game is Invizimals of all things.
Pretty sure Invizimals was SCEE's biggest PSP franchise.

Fun little game. Shoutouts to Yella, that played the coop campaign with me. A true Vitabro.

So, downloading Uncharted 3 is a bit pain in the ass. There's 11 GB of "3D movies" then the actually game and I'd guess "2D movies" after that. The problem is that I keep losing the connection at some point of the download. Then when I restart it starts from the beginning.

Hooray for +30 GB downloads...

The third game was a game that is a sequel or reboot of a game from the PS1 era that people played for like 10 years? That it was crazy deep like Demon's Souls? (those were his words). I definitely don't remember him mentioning a name for the third game, but he specifically compared it's depth to Demon's Souls.

.... could it be a new King's Field game? Ah christ, I'm getting myself hyped again. I'm gonna listen to that podcast again and take notes when he's talking about those Vita games.

star ocean the second story?

He actually never got to the third game. He was still talking about Over My Dead Body when referencing the deep PS1 game that was remade on PSP.

Sony just doesn't market the Vita that way. Sure it wasn't a big stage presence during their presser (at which they seemed mostly focused on PS4, as many wanted), but the PS Blog and Home E3 experience were very Vita centric.

The show floor itself seemed very Pro-Vita as well.

Sony keeps telling us how many studios they have, but they all seem to be working on PS4.

Vita and Wii U both seem to be suffering from the same thing: Everyone is so busy putting time, workers, and money into XboxOne and PS4, that anything else is getting the short end of the stick.

If I were in charge of Sony's Vita division, I'd use the system as an "Up-Port Origins" machine; make great looking Vita games up to the systems strengths, that can later be Up-Ported to PS4, either as the originals, or with sequels. Panopticon looks like a good candidate for such an idea...

You need the 4GB multiplayer free to play game (it's also the launcher for single player), the 11GB file, and either the 2D or 3D movies, not both. You also don't need the language packs.

Any Vita importers know how long EMS packages can stay at ISC New York (customs?)? Then again it says 'processed through' as the only update so it might already have left.

Last package processed through ISC at 2AM, through a local hub at 9AM, to my local post office at 12:40PM and delivered just after 1 all in one day, which I thought was pretty impressive.

Hoping I'll get it tomorrow. It's a sweet Vita-related bundle :)

The more videos I watch, the worse Valhalla Knights 3 seems. I really wonder what XSEED was thinking when they decided to localize it. :/

Wait, there was a WKC PSP game that the US never got? FOR SHAAAME. Was it any good?

star ocean the second story?

If only. It would make perfect sense for SCEJ to invest in some awesome, new JRPGs and put them out globally like they used to but nope.

He actually never got to the third game. He was still talking about Over My Dead Body when referencing the deep PS1 game that was remade on PSP.

Yup, I actually finally re-listened to it on the way home from work. Yeah he talked about Freedom Wars, the Over My Dead Body sequel, and never got to the third but since he specifically said they were all three games "announced at E3", I'm going to take a wild guess and say the third game was that god awful Destiny of Spirits game.

It makes sense that he didn't go into specifics on it, the sad part is that that game seems ready to be put out worldwide. Priorities SCEA, priorities. Crappy F2P card games should come AFTER the giant, amazing looking JRPGs that SCEJ puts out once in a blue moon.

From what he said about the Oreshika game (Over My Dead Body sequel), it sounds awesome. Robust character creator, deep, old school/rewarding JRPG gameplay, etc. It's a shame that we've seen like NOTHING about the game.

Also, I've noticed that there are some Vita games coming to the West that have fallen off peoples' radar - Picotto Knights and Rainbow Moon to name a few. Both will be awesome, and both should be kept in mind.

I think it's supposed to compete with Puzzles & Dragons, which is a huge deal in Japan, and is apparently coming to the 3DS is some form.

I don't know what Picotto Knights is, but the Rainbow Moon game got middling reviews when it came out on the PS3 last year. I'm sure it's decent, but I don't think it stirs much excitement.

I'm not talking about future releases, I'm talking about first party support as a whole on the system, from the day it launched to the foreseeable future. I think more than half of Vita titles are first party in one way or the other (made a list in my reply to toto), so how is Vita's problem the lack of first party titles? I think the biggest issue at hand is the ABSOLUTE lack of third party support from some of the biggest gaming development companies out there.

That doesn't mean I'm satisfied with the number (or quality, I don't care about western games half as much as I do for eastern games, and from that point of view the system is a fucking wasteland) of games Sony finances and publishes on the system but it's already the biggest part, if third parties supported the system we'd have a lot of Vita games without having to rely exclusively on Sony's efforts.

EDIT: tl;dr: if you have to complain, complain about third parties not releasing shit for the system, that's by far the biggest problem. If you really have to blame Sony, blame them for not making agreements and all that kind of behind-the-scenes deals that grant third parties games on a system. One company alone can't fill a system library, Nintendo knows that full well.

Also, I've noticed that there are some Vita games coming to the West that have fallen off peoples' radar - Picotto Knights and Rainbow Moon to name a few. Both will be awesome, and both should be kept in mind.

Rainbow moon got crap on pretty bad by RPGamer. they pretty recommend paying any other decent SRPG over it because of the frustrating gameplay. I trust their opinion and I doubt it's gonna be any better on the vita

Schobeleth, is this on YouTube? If so, would you mind posting it? I want to listen to his interview.

You can listen here.

Not much Vita talk, though. IGN guy begs for more Patapon, and wants more HD collection ports. Shuhei tells him to look forward to more Indie titles.

When asked what's on the horizon after KZ:M and Tearaway, Shuhei offers Freedom Wars and Over My Dead Body 2 as examples of future first-party Vita support (even though there are no plans to localize them at the moment, brilliant...)

Shuhei reiterates Jack Tretton's statement that Sony considers Vita to still be very early in its life cycle, so no price cut planned.

Some hinting at what Sony Bend is up to when Shuhei says they're working on something that's firmly within their specialty (so probably another handheld game I guess). IGN guy hopes it's Syphon Filter Vita, and my mouth waters in agreement.

That's it.

Lol, Thank Leona Lewis =), this does not sound so good for us VitaGaf at all =(, I really hope that thing will become better for us later this year.

My cousin fell on love with Rainbow Moon and put almost 100 hours into it.
I rarely see him worked up like that for a game so I'm getting it for that reason.

Really wish GungHo was showing off Picotto Knights at E3 somewhere. It's annoying to go so long without SOME news. (They could make a Vitaport of Puzzle & Dragons while they're at it.)

The more videos I watch, the worse Valhalla Knights 3 seems. I really wonder what XSEED was thinking when they decided to localize it. :/

I looks like a Private MMO-on-the-Go, in a way. Especially with the Galka-Like Monk man using the FFXI=Style Gauntlets...

Taken with it's own Library, Vita doesn't really have much in that ilk. Heck, there's not much made of that ilk, in the first place. And while the Game's presentation and world might be lack-luster, the music and character customization seem to be pretty solid.

It might be the kind of game that only few really fall for, but there's guaranteed to be some, and they'll probably LOVE it.

Maybe the Home invites get you in earlier before it goes public.

Correct, but the beta codes aren't working. :/ I don't think it's Live until next month or August.

Edit: And I'm frankly disappointed by the lack of news about PSO2 coming to the West.
