Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

Melee Adventure Mode was boring and repetitive. SSE had horrible level design which made it mostly unfun to play the first time, so playing it over and over again was uninteresting, but at least you only had to play through it fully once, then play a few stages a second time, to unlock everything.

An SSE with better level design, gameplay that sticks more closely to the multiplayer, a more Metroidvania style, and more challenge altogether would be acceptable. It doesn't really have to be shorter, as long as the actual stages are individually more fun to play, having more of them is actually a good thing.

Personally, I want stickers to return, and I want Sticker Match to be a multiplayer option. The ability to customize your character's stats could make for a whole new tournament environment. Having to balance larger boosts against a greater variety of boosts, as well as the metagame of what your opponent is likely to choose would add a lot.

Well, it's obviously possible, but we've seen nothing so far to suggest that Bowser gained anything from Inside Story. He has a new stance/walk/run, a low kick, and a dropkick. The stance is vague enough to have been inspired by anything, and the kicks are completely original to Smash Bros.

I think it's original. Bowser's already a heavyweight with a "grapple" (side B), so maybe Sakurai wanted to "wrestler" him up a little bit as an homage to that fighting game archetype.

That would be awesome if he did that.

I just really want a beefy single player experience. Does't matter if it's SSE or not. I would just like them to leverage the franchises involved to make the single player have an even more fan service oriented experience.

I feel story modes are a bit of a waste for this games. They allways put a lot of effort into them but they never end un being all that interesting.

I rather have a more personalized arcade mode for each character with unique challeges that take advantage of each moveset's features. It would also be fun have an ending cutscene in wich it interacts with the other characters and a unique boss fight based on the game tha character was in.

I really need a new character reveal soon, but I'm afraid it will take a really long while.

I really want to see this game take a page out of League/Dota 2's book with regarding to character skins and sounds.

From League, just the sheer amount of skin variety offered. Re-use (most of) the same animations, keep the actual gameplay identical, but vary the skins wildly across the different characters in lots of different ways.

From Dota 2, make the skins modular. Let me add Mario's cape if I want to.

And finally, from Dota 2 add voiceover work for every possible combination of anything ever.

Custom costumes aren't in. Sakurai already confirmed that he won't add that kind of customization because it could make the characters look generic. There's still hope for alternate skins/costumes though.

Exactly. These characters aren't exactly new that you can mix and match their clothing. They already have predefined outfits in the course of their games.

I'm pretty sure he just meant custom costumes like Tekken or Soul Calibur had. As in it would take away from the originality of Mario if you could give him a different hat.

Edit: Beaten with a brick.

It'd be great if they can go to the extreme with Link, and give him the alternate based on the color. White = Fierce Deity Link, Blue = Zora Armor. Etc.

At this point, I hope that they'll offer up a fully fledged adventure mode as a part of DLC. I would be ok with that, I guess. I'm still bummed about SSE being cut. I don't really want CGI movies that I have to unlock to tell me a story. That's boring.
Either that or Nintendo should just go all out and release a true crossover adventure game.

Here's all the 3DS screenshots from the press kit.

Some of them look really good.

So I just read that there won't be cross-play.. is that true?
You can share some things between both versions but matches are out of the question...

Correct. There's something about customization that you can exchange between both versions, but we've got no idea as to what that refers to at the moment.

I'm hoping for moderate visible damage on character models, or some indication that they have high damage. Like, going above 200-250% damage will knock Mega Man's helmet off, or Mario will lose his cap. Character's idle animations could reflect the higher damage too.

At this point, definitely. I'm kind of speaking relatively. Most people thought Isaac was a likely newcomer before Brawl but in the end, I don't think he was relevant enough for Nintendo. Same story with Shulk this time around.

My prediction for Xenoblade representation:
-Shulk assist trophy
-You Will Know Our Names as stage music
-2-3 trophies
I agree with this, and your roster prediction is very similar to what I've been thinking lately. It's rare that I find somebody who agrees with me on things.

I recall they had that in mind for Brawl, where there was skins showing damage to Meta Knight's mask and Link's shield. I think that would be a nice touch, especially if you been KO'd so many times.

Man, I really want Isaac to get in, if only to put the move set I made for him (http://youtu.be/zXAMB1zNB-A) to shame.

That was awesome. It would be nice to see official Isaac from Sakurai but I doubt he will ever get in.

Reposting just because; Max's reaction to the Mega Man reveal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzPmglfZUsM

Do we have any other videos like this?

Is it authentic? I felt that it was staged.

I would agreed with his roster prediction. Other than Villager, Mega Man and Wii Fit Trainer, I would find those characters very predictable to be in the game. If it's actually happened then I would wish that Wii Fit Trainer would be secret character which would be awesome!

I'm getting both versions of SSB, and I was planning to do so all along, but I am AMAZED by how great the 3DS version looks. The stages, in particular, strike me as more interesting than those in the WiiU version:

i8oHF5lnbEQGK.gif

Gerudo Valley, complete with the waterfall and carpenters' tent on the correct sides of the bridge. You can even glimpse the fortress/archery grounds in the background when the camera pans back (watch the upper-left corner). I bet if you were to pause and look down below the bridge, you'd even see the cow on the shores of the river. Insane nostalgia in this stage!

Anyone have any GIFs of the other stages in action, like the Spirit Tracks stage?

Yeah, same here. I always have been planning to buy both version ever since they announced both version at E3 2011. Yeah, I'm mindblown by their art style for 3DS which is just perfect for Smash.

agree, I wasn't really feeling it from the trailer, but these screens looks fantastic. Link, especially.

Now I don't feel like the only one. It was amazing to me, when seeing the 3DS version. I really love both styles, but I think I have more love for the 3DS version.

I am probobly just going to get the WU version. I dont really see the need to buy a portable,

This is coming out

PokemonX_3DS_boxart.jpg

That is going to take up alot of my portable time

Also I am assuming a modding community for the WU version is going to start up

Even without the black outline, I think the colors in the 3DS version are bolder. It has a nice comic book art look to it. Reminds me of the promo videos for MvC3. And like I said, some awesome arenas so far. The Feroxi Coliseum, the train from Spirit Tracks, the home in Nintendogs, etc. Speaking of that last stage, it looks like the Nintendog actually walks through the building blocks, reshaping the platform layout. Just fantastic.

Does anyone have any more GIFs of stages in action on the 3DS version? There were a number of glimpses in both the debut trailer and dev diary...

There's nothing that feels quite as odd as my joy at spotting the archery area of the fortress when I first saw that gif, it's such a small thing but the fact it's there makes me feel overjoyed, the little things can make all the difference.

But aside from the two Zelda stages i'm not feeling the 3DS stages so far (from what litte i've seen at least), but since they're taking from handheld games and Starfox 64 3D was indeed a thing I can resume my hope for a Zoness stage

I just realized we haven't seen any items yet. I only use pokeballs and assist trophies, if anything, but I do wonder what new items they'll add.

Man, when this level was first shown, you couldn't see the bridge, just the tent. And a few people were swearing it was a Monster Hunter tent. It clearly isn't and wasn't, but maaaan if I didn't get SO excited for just a bit. Having a Monster Hunter in Smash would be nuts.
Monster Hunter hunts his way in!
