Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

We're probably going to have an Other M stage, sadly. Though it would be redeemed if Adam was in the background and started taking away everyone's moves until he gave permission again.
Some of the boss areas could be pretty cool, though. Phantoon's area with the huge windows out to space would be awesome. I think the stage hazard would be rather obvious, too. Just have Phantoon break down the area like it does in the fight.

Also: Adolescent Ridley. Fear the death chicken!

Most looked at that infamous cutscene and that was it.

Wow, I just watched that scene again. Got to where she lets Ridley grab her and couldn't finish. If I was playing the game at this point of my life I would have ragequit right there.

The creator of Metroid, Sakamoto or whatever? If you peruse through related interviews, you'll find he's an inexplicably sexist bastard. Inexplicable because he created (until Other M) one of the least sexist female characters out there.

Guys, is Other M decently fun if I skip all the story parts? I didn't realize it's so cheap right now.
It's a bit flawed and the story is stupid (and can't be skipped on the first playthrough), but yes, it's fun. It gets a lot of things right, and even does some things better than Prime. And contrary to what people parrot on the internet, it's actually not sexist, either.

It is decently fun IF you skip the plot points. But here's the PLOT TWIST: you can't skip them.
Uh. Consider me not interested. WTF, why? :/

I know this seems silly, but, can I copy a friend's save file on my Wii and skip the story then? :P

Still need to give Other M a play. Will do so before jumping into the prime games. Have a feeling ill oddly like Orher M over prime.

Sure...

The game also has a theater mode where you can watch all the cutscenes in a row without ll that nasty gameplay interfering. It even starts off with the title screen "Metroid - Other M the movie".

It's like they really want to sow off this brilliant story, when really... it's not.

I don't think Other M is intentionally sexist. It can certainly be read that way, but I think the only reason it comes across like that is because it's written so terribly.

The worst thing about Other M is its story. But even if you ignore that, it's just an average game. The game is super-linear (which I would be fine with if it weren't for the next point) and combat is boring and automatic.

Except that man is the commanding officer of this operation and her mentor, so sex has fuck all to do with any that. Especially not with the Ridley thing. That's mostly due to Retro overusing the character.

Exactly.

1.) She does the same thing with the Gravity suit in the vs. Nightmare fight, even though she's authorizing by herself by then. Secondly, he's commanding everyone on the ship, men or otherwise. At the very beginning he authorizes freeze gun usage for his whole squad. Get that out of here.

2.) Dude, that's common among anime males. Fucking Vegeta did the same thing to Goku, including the going off and sacrificing himself part. It wasn't out of spite, nonsense complaint. Moreover, he did this because Samus would have sacrificed herself, and being that she was the most powerful person on the ship (maybe even that half of the universe), and she was more valuable than he was.

3.) That was because he wanted to include Samus's backstory in there, which hadn't really been told outside of the manga. Could have been done earlier in the series yes, but it's lateness is the only real problem there. PTSD.

This. Although the heels on the Zero Suit were pretty terrible.

I feel like I'll be turning off most of the stages we've seen by virtue of them being stages where you can walk to the edge.

Glad the Fire Emblem stage isn't like that.

1. Doesn't mean the Varia suit thing didn't happen

2. If it were two guys it'd be different

3. Seriously, watch that scene again and try to defend it more

EDIT: There's a point to be had the game is unintentionally sexist as a result of very poor design decisions (wanting the character to realize the environment is hot and can kill them even though they already have a protective suit)
In the end it's just stupid

I'm surprised by the Spear Pillar love here. I didn't enjoy it very much. On the same thought, any stages you guys wish would return from Melee or 64 that didn't make it into Brawl?

64
Saffron City
Hyrule Castle

Melee
PokeFloat
Princess Peach's Castle

If Xenoblade gets a stage it needs to be Gaur Plains.

Not for me. I didn't like the gameplay at all. It was very linear (more than Fusion).

Personally, I never understood the whole authorizing weapon complaint. Samus isn't officially affiliated with the GF and she is way stronger than any of them. She respects Adam. With all of that in mind, she listens to his orders.

1.) Nope, it shows that was for gameplay reasons. It was a bad mix of story and gameplay, but it's not what you're claiming.

2.) How?

3.) I repeat - it would have been better earlier. And that was the problem with the scene.

This. Although the heels on the Zero Suit were pretty terrible.
Those weren't sexist either, and they looked good, so I hope they stay part of her official design. I actually think they were added for two reasons: To meet her canonical height without making her incredibly tall, and to give her some elevation for the suit activation, as she'd need to levitate otherwise.

To the point of dying of lava heat? That's normal

In the future heels for women are standard issue

In Other M:

It's the baby form of Ridley.
I shit you not.

And to be more indepth about it:

The scientists that were going about taking every DNA sample from areas Samus blew the fuck up managed to get Ridley samples which they also genetically tampered with IIRC, leading to "Fluff-dly's" rapid growth through the progression of Other M (as it ate a few carcasses) into the reptilian space dragon we all love to fire missiles at.

That's fine. The story wasn't great at all. I enjoy shitty anime stories, though, mostly for the conclusion, so.

I mean, the suit does materialize (which I personally loved, but made the Phantoon sequence quite stupid), not too much of a threat to float a little. I kinda hate the heels.

It has no music, just noise to indicate some sort of atmosphere.

Seriously all I remember is Ridley Boss theme and some piano ditty on the title screen.

The Ridley theme is all I remember... oh, there was the escape music, too. Which happened in epic fashion after she waited until she literally couldn't move to use the gravity suit. By "epic," I mean the activation in midair, landing, and transition to music.

Why Not Just Make Samus Tall

Pretty much this. I've always felt like Other M was a case of "Lost In Translation" because I don't think Nintendo developers are behind the curve when it comes to sensibilities to things like sexism.

With that being said, Sakamoto's off hand comments on things like "Samus' beauty mark", Heel-gate, and the knowledge that Team Ninja were working on the game certainly all came at the worst possible time, namely the lead up to the launch of the game. That could only add more fuel to the fire.

Why Not Just Make Samus Tall

Isn't she like 6' 3 already? Chick is an Amazon.

I'm pretty sure it's because Sakamoto thinks tall women aren't attractive

I just hope the online doesn't suck this time.
Namco is co-developing. If there's one thing Namco are awesome at, it's online code for fighting games. Soul Calibur V and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 both have a quite solid online mode.

If Smash is allowed to use that code, it'll be in good hands.

he authorizes her equipment just like he does for the rest of the squad. even then she activates some abilities and functions without authorization anyway.

he had to shoot her in the back because there was no other way for him to make sure he she didn't get herself killed from going after the powered up Metroids instead of him.

she killed him in super metroid. his death in the original metroid was retconned out and the prime games dont appear to be canon in Sakamoto's world.

the combination of her ptsd, her almost dying in the battle against mb, and the reunion with adam and thinking about her past put her in a unstable state so she wasn't at all prepared for Ridley coming back from the dead with no warning.

i'm not saying the story is perfect by any stretch but this sexist stuff is just bullshit.

No, but I approve of this particular design decision. Does no harm, looks good (personal opinion, YMMV), and offers an acceptable explanation for how the whole suit thing works.

I mean, the suit does materialize (which I personally loved, but made the Phantoon sequence quite stupid), not too much of a threat to float a little. I kinda hate the heels.
But if she had the ability to float, that would have game design implication, so she shouldn't be able to float. So what's the alternative? Jumping really, really high so she's airborne long enough for the suit to materialize? That would look pretty stupid.

Not really. Crystal Flash.
