Metal Gear Solid V (PS3/360/PS4/XBO/Maybe PC) - Extended 9 minute E3 trailer

Project "Ogre"

ogre

1: a hideous giant of fairy tales and folklore that feeds on human beings : monster

2: a dreaded person or object

Seems to me like it's a fitting name for the game that's going to likely portray Big Boss's fall into infamy.

You need to stop changing your avatar so much so that I know it's you who's posting.

I know, I think I'm going to stick with MGS2 Snake, I was just trying this out. I stuck with that one for a couple weeks though at least!

But, he was only infamous because
he played double agent, ran FOXHOUND while trying to subvert Cipher with Outer Heaven. If anything he's a tragic hero. He might've done some unsavory things, but I don't think he was inherently evil.

Oh no, he was never inherently evil. You really kind of realize that come
the end of MGS4.
I'm not saying he's an actual evil heel or anything, I'm just saying this game will be the picture that paints him as such. Basically we've only seen one side of history, so we just assume he worst and don't understand. With this game, we'll get to see why and how he did the things that he did, and just exactly how conflicted and coerced he was due to his situation and allies.

EDIT: Also I regret not highlighting that first definition as well.

Big Boss basically became this fairytale, folkloreish kind of soldier. His name would immediately bring feat to his enemies, and they even thought he was so talented that they took the time to clone him, and they took measures so that those clones wouldn't live as long as an average human, due to the potential catastrophic damage they could cause. Now that's a legend.

wasn't this almost a year ago?

E3 2011

I think he mentioned that they modeled those in FOX Engine. I think.
Ok thanks,
I hope they are, maybe thay can throw them into the new MGO.(they got Mei Ling in MGO2, its not too crazy)
if they are, that would be;

multiple Naked Snakes
MSF Big Boss
MGS1 Solid Snake
MGS2 Raiden
Eva(much better than the original)
MGS3 Ocelot
The Boss(would probably be the coolest special character)
Peace Walker cast

could also have Fox if they use the Rising model.

I can't believe this didn't hit me until now and it has probably been discussed, but...

How is this going to be on the 360???

How many DVDs will be necessary?

I really hope this game has limitless replay-value and is much more focused on a free, open-world experience than cutscenes.

I FEEL ASLEEP

I just want some professional voice actor to say it with Fox Engine rendering it all in real-time, and I'll be happy.

I wonder if they will bring the vehicle capturing stuff back from Peace Walker.
Would be cool now that the game is open world and you could use them in extra missions.

The inevitable Metal Gear+Metal Gear 2 remake that comes after this has me so fucking excited.

I wonder if this is Kojima's plan: finally come full circle on the series so he can't possibly squeeze any more stories out and leaves the remakes of MG1 onward to others so he can retire from making games or make something different.

And FYI, Ogres usually ate children according to the lore.

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogre

Un ogre (du latin orcus, « enfer », fém. ogresse) est un personnage de contes et traditions populaires, sorte de géant se nourrissant de chair fraîche et dévorant les petits enfants.

Translation: An ogre (Latin orcus, "hell", fem. Ogress) is a character in folk tales and traditions, a kind of giant flesh-eating and devouring small children.

We saw the demon-like character who was wearing the same suit as Big Boss, had horns, Big Boss has a horn, the child soldiers and other kids in the game (Psycho-Mantis or whoever), etc.

Me too. I've never played a MGS solid game, but open world stealth sounds intriguing. Will I be able to skip the cutscenes?

If you want to skip the cutscenes, this series is probably not for you. Story is a huge part of the MGS series and the cutscenes is the main way that it is conveyed to the gamer.

So wait, who is the guy with the beret that Ocelot is hanging out with? He has the Diamond Dogs logo on his beret. Is he Kaz? Looks different, bigger. They are torturing Huey. So Ocelot/BB/Kaz torture Huey to build Metal Gear or something?

Also Kaz loses his right arm? Big Boss loses part of his left arm, and he has an arm like Galvez. Everyone loses an arm or hand in this series, it's like Star Wars.

I wonder what this red stick was:

FFmUsxG.jpg

So we can assume that Chico "betrayed" Big Boss and co., Paz gave some information when tortured, they put a bomb in her stomach, Big Boss shows up to saves Chico and Paz, on their way back on the chopper they find out Paz has a bomb inside her and take it out. They arrive at Mother Base and it's under attack. Ground Zeroes probably ends around there after Big Boss goes unconscious.

Still wonder why Chico himself has a plug in his chest.

edit: Oh and it looks like Big Boss kills the kids who he gave diamonds to? Doubtful but it seems to be what it shows.

Did you... watch the 9 minute trailer?

Did you... watch the 9 minute trailer?

Errr how did what I write make it sound like I did not?

edit: Also STILL wonder what those vertical bars are. They imply something...

edit2: So BB kills the kids, because he thinks they have no future but as soldiers. This is probably what leads him to eventually change his mind and recruit kids anyway, forming Outer Heaven, rather than kill them.

And we see him 'eating' children after a fashion.

So wait, who is the guy with the beret that Ocelot is hanging out with?
Very clear who it is in the trailer
He has the Diamond Dogs logo on his beret. Is he Kaz? Looks different, bigger. They are torturing Huey. So Ocelot/BB/Kaz torture Huey to build Metal Gear or something?
It is Kaz

Also Kaz loses his right arm?
You see it clearly a few times in the trailer yeah, most clearly at the end

The same reason Paz has a bomb inside her, as is inferred with the original XOF trailer, probably anyway

edit: Oh and it looks like Big Boss kills the kids who he gave diamonds to? Doubtful but it seems to be what it shows.
He wasn't giving them diamonds, he was giving one back that was offered to him in exchange for their freedom, apparently with the X-Ray shot, he has plenty. It looks like he kills them instead, presumably as retribution for some sort of killing they did earlier (they are the same kids you see at the start being shown how to shoot

Hope this clarrifies. You were asking questions that made it seems like you only caught the information second hand or just wasn't paying attention. :P

edit: Also STILL wonder what those vertical bars are. They imply something...

They look like Genome markers but who knows if they have a deeper meaning. We've seen them used basically as indicators of scene transitions/ autosaving in the original gameplay reveal.

Yeah I didn't realize a lot of this, had only watched the trailer once since it was revealed and this was just my second watch.

Pretty sure the trojan is Paz though, not Chico.

I doubt we'll still be playing as Big Boss past the point where he kills kids though. Or maybe we will, I don't know.

I hope we get a bit of reminiscence about The Boss, seems it would be fitting to put her fate in perspective with Big Boss'. It really all started with him killing her, and that was her who really pushed him to do so.

He has a big scar on his right arm btw, noticed that when he picks up Kaz.

There two recurring effects: the horizontal lights (often accompanied by a hissing sound), and the vertical bars.

I still think it's about reliving memories:p

And I don't agree at all that the vertical bars were used as transitions or auto-save, it doesn't make any sense. The one in the chopper and then so soon after again when BB takes out the radar, makes no sense for them to be that. They always show up when looking at machines/computers. The helicopter's control panel, the radar, the generator.

edit: Also, Big Boss will have to do SOMETHING that warrants him going back to be at the head of Fox Hound eventually. I wonder how that's going to work out. Can't imagine any way that this would happen without him knowing Cypher wouldn't allow it. He'd have to gain back his trust somehow, or undermine him enough that he can't prevent him from leading Foxhound. Can't just be a pawn again after all this, especially since we know he sets out to make Outer Heaven behind the scenes, and Kaz also works with Fox again (or at least is assumed to be on their side in MGS1).

I feel like there's some big element to everything that we're not seeing. Not sure if it's as big as like the MGS2 switch, or say the Animus in Assassin's Creed 1, but something.

I can't believe this didn't hit me until now and it has probably been discussed, but...

It could be released on 4 discs for all I care, like Lost Odyssey was, as long as they handle disc swapping intelligently. I'm just glad Kojima has gone multi-platform this time.

I still secretly hope for a 5 disc Metal Gear Solid 4 Xbox 360 release, but know it'll never happen.

I feel the same. I can see a kind of plant (the open-world parts in MGSV), and then
Arsenal's Guts
(as Kojima starts to reveal whatever crazy things he has planned) type of situation happening; by that I mean, the game descending into a very dark and surreal setting, that moves away from one that is more realistic and outdoors based. I know Kojima has talked differently about how the two parts of MGSV will operate, but I still get the feeling there is going to be some crazy switch or surprise (maybe involving Hayter in some way?) in the game. Either way, I'm sure he has something really interesting planned.

this is honestly one of my favorite parts of MGS2. snake vs solidus (raiden caught in the cross fire of two legends) and then pliskin's reveal as snake and the proceeding conversation. dat character development.
Agree,
For some reason i'd always shoot Snake a few times so he would shoot the harrier.

i haven't checked in since the e3 trailer.

is the guy in the diamond dogs hat solid snake or what.

and is it truly hopeless for any david hayter holdouts at this point?

Yeah I thought Hayter was not hired back because he might have been asking too much cash, but if they got Keifer Sutherland I can't imagine this being the case, or at least it lowers the chances.

Whatever the case, there is definitely something about those vertical bars and I maintain it's reliving-memories-related!

Same with how in the GZ and first PP trailer, every time the camera was looking at a bright light we'd hear a weird hissing sound.

There's something hidden in there.

edit; Holy shit I figured out why they ditched Hayter and went for Sutherland: they are making the MGS movie and want fans to get used to the Holliwood actor playing Snake. He's going to be Solid Snake in the movie.
